Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Posts

Finished the game. Really enjoyed it! I'm reserving judgement on some of the more glaring flaws since it seems you're working on an updated/remastered/ultimate edition, eh? Only thing I will mention though...

When fighting Athena closer to the end of the game, and it's just Pandora and her summon... was I supposed to LOSE the first time? Because I beat Athena, and then was confused, because Pandora started saying she wasn't strong enough. But... I won. I'm going out on a limb here and assuming that the game would continue if you lose, and then that cutscene would play out, yeah?

Anyway. It was kind of funny. But I did enjoy the story, and playing from the perspective of the villain was a nice change of pace. Looking forward to trying out Ultimate Edition!
Whoa, that was quick. Yes, you were supposed to lose that battle. Yes, everyone is apparently better at my game than I am. And yes, I'm reworking that scene to play out differently if you do manage to win. Blasted Demora and her stupid full party magic reflect spell...

*ahem* Thanks for your time, and for playing my game to the end. I'm hoping that the ultimate edition is a different enough experience to warrant another playthrough, as well as being a much smoother ride. See you there!
Oh, when I first commented I was probably about 2/3 of the way through or so. Took a good week or so to really finish, playing an hour or two here and there. Hey, I admire that you've got a battle that you're meant to lose but can actually make a fight out of. I had one of those in my own game, but it was so insanely difficult that you would maybe get one attack off before the entire party gets wiped out. And the funny thing is that the fight was supposed to be a way to "test your current combat capabilities." So it's cool to see a fight that you're supposed to lose, but is at least possible, although not necessarily feasible without exploits.

I'm pretty sure I missed a lot though, for some reason I never found the Kraken. And he's got a screenshot and everything. Thinking of playing through the game again and taking my time a bit more to really explore everything.

EDIT: Oh yeah, and I also wanted to mention, great use of the Cradle of Cyanide battlers! I used them myself, and I don't see them used often, so it's really cool to see them in another game, but I absolutely loved how some of the monsters you could recruit were variations and edits of them. Very creative.
Hey thanks, dude. That artist is insanely good and a lot of the stuff he comes up with is downright scary. I always like seeing his battlers pop up in rpg maker games from time to time, and I think his art style blends well with VX Ace's as well as a lot of the DLC.

I took a gander at your game and am violently jealous of its mapping. Seriously, how is everyone so much better at mapping than me? What's the secret? Is there an online course I don't know about? How much is the tuition?

If you're having trouble unlocking anything, hit up my inbox and I'll tell you what to do. I tried to make it so you'll find everything pretty easily if you explore everywhere and talk to everyone.
Best advice I can give about mapping tips is to study the maps of people like Hanzo Kimura. I took a lot of inspiration from how he did his maps from Valkyrie Stories (still so sad that game was never fully released). Then check out some basic parallax mapping tutorials with gimp or Photoshop, and just get started. Maybe compile some resources you plan on using regularly, create a few basic templates, and practice practice practice. Might take you a full day to do just one map at first, but as you improve you'll be pumping them out in an hour or two tops. That's really all I did. I appreciate the compliment though!

And absolutely, I'll let you know if I'm struggling, but I definitely want to see how much I can discover for myself. I loved the way you had different characters interact with other based on who was in your party at the time, really makes me want to play through and see all the different interactions!
Hi all, idk if someone still reading this topic but i have a problem with this amazing game. During the figth against Damien the game crashed and a pop-up says:
"script game interpreter line 119:Fiber error double resume".
How can i fix it?
Thx
*raises hand* I'm still reading it. Easy peasy, just focus on attacking Damien instead of the summons. Thankfully that bug will be fixed once I release the ultimate edition.

Oh, and finishing the game did actually get me in one of those 'what do I do with my free time now...?' vibes as well. The kind of vibe you get after finishing a good series/game, which is probably the kind of sadness you meant.

Yes, exactly--how do I find another game that compares to this one that will totally immerse me in another world.

Just finished the game and Elvario took the words out of my mouth this game was so good I have the exact same vibes. Playing as the villains now that is one wonderful idea and I've had so much fun doing it I didn't want it to come to an end. I will be patiently waiting for the sequel and replaying Umbral Soul meanwhile as I missed 1 side quest and who knows how many lines of dialog for not switching party members often.
I could feel the hard work in every aspect of this game (animations/sounds/heavy dialog and backstories) truly a great game and I am giving it 5/5 although there were many typos, which in my opinion are a sign you have been focusing more on the play part and the bugs than obvious typos like(Thier = Their).

I only encoutered 2 bugs both on the first visit to Azrielle's castle and I think both bugs are related as they happened almost at the same time:
First as soon as I reached the monster kennel I could talk to Gryger(invisible) by interacting with the spot where he will be in the later game, he'd offer to join my party and it works (I had him join just for a test but I can't remember if tested before or right after beating Azrielle).

Second bug is after I defeated Azrielle he too offered to join my party instead of taking me to the Ebony Cauldron and again it worked, he joined me so my quest got stuck because i had no way to go to the Cauldron. My only option was to load a save before I even entered the castle, beat Azrielle but ignore both him and Gryger this time I instantly warped to Living Quarters to trigger a dialog with Demora and only now would Azrielle offer to take me to the Ebony Cauldron.

How can I start the Noire's Gift quest? I totally missed this one even though I tried interacting with her a few times

Whoops, looks like I'm late to the party. Fashionably late mind you. I'm thrilled to hear you enjoyed the game, Lessica. If it's villain rpg's you're looking for, two come to mind off the top of my head.

The first is called "Flip Dimensions", where you take on the role of a baddie trying to conquer the world, though that game has a more whimsical tone than this one.

The second is called "This is Not My Final Form", which lets you play as a transforming eldritch abomination. It's still in development, but it looks fantastic, so I'd definitely recommend keeping an eye on it.

This next one isn't a villain game, but it IS my personal favorite on this site so far. It features a customizable skill learning system, fun characters, and a satisfying story.

Lastly, I'll go ahead and mention my friend Cradth's game; Livinel. It has jaw dropping graphics and mapping so beautiful it will make you want to headbutt your computer screen out of sheer jealousy. Or maybe that's just me.

https://rpgmaker.net/games/8280/

I might be a tiny bit biased with that last one, since the dev made me a character for sharing some feedback, heh heh.

And now that the shameless promotion is out of the way, let's talk about glitches! You may be happy to hear that I'm currently working on an updated version of the game with more content, a plethora of glitch fixes, and 100% less "thiers"! I'll need you to bear with me until then, but once it's released, all of those wretched vermin will be smote in one fell swoop. Or is it smitten? Smited? Bah, whatever.

Starting the sidequest you mentioned should be as easy as talking to Noire twice, then giving her the item she asked for. If it's not working properly, could you let me know what she's been saying instead? Thanks in advance.
Hi iwant to know, i like the sirens song really nice voice which group sing this i cant find the song maybe its not official ??? Maybe pls let me know the group which create the Sirens Song Ty for the Future Answers
Noire's song was ripped from an episode of Samurai Jack. I don't know if the song itself has a name or who performed it, unfortunately. Awesome show by the way, I'd highly recommend it.

Watch and learn,or you dont you understand ???
Umbral Saga Legion *caff* :O :O :O Just kidding, though it seems promising. I'm digging the dark vibe of it, has an overall 1800's victorian goth kinda feel+demons and yeeeee
Download compretaru!! Now I play.
I guess I'll come back and let you know what I actually think. V_O
By all means! Hope you enjoy yourself. *nail biting intensifies*
Stopping in for my irregularly scheduled check in. How goes it, Wheelman?
Hi. I love this game. Checked-in as well :)
Irregular is right, you guys are thirty-six minutes early! I didn't even get a chance to wipe down the coffee table or vacuum the rug. Here, sit down and have some trail mix. I think it still has a good three days before it expires.

I'll be blunt, there's been some real life issues recently that have been slowing me down, but they haven't stopped production completely. Nothing gravely serious mind you, but enough to keep me distracted. That's why I don't like giving deadlines, because you never know when life's going to sock you in the jaw, pick you up, then uppercut you.

No need to worry though; production is still chugging along and I think you'll be pleased with the results of your patience. Thanks for sticking with me everybody.
Man it's been a while since I left a comment here, I'm really looking forward to playing the Ultimate edition. Please continue to take your time, it's best you enjoy your game as much as we will. I believe in ya man.
I have to ask this just for memeing reasons...
What's the name of that ominous vocal song that plays when Pandora is ready to die at the colosseum and Ragnarök calls her pathetic?
