Over two hundred years ago, the five heroes defeated the god of darkness; Ragnarok, in a climactic struggle for the fate of the world. Banished back to the realm of darkness known as the Abyss, the threat of the evil god had finally been put to rest once and for all...or so they thought.

Umbral Soul follows the story of Ragnarok’s loyal servant, Pandora, who joins her master in a quest to conquer the world and reclaim his lost power. In order to shroud the world in eternal darkness, they will have to find and recruit new allies, build an army of powerful monsters, and raise a force strong enough to crush anyone who dares to oppose them. Heroes, generals and rival overlords all stand against them. Do you have the power to make the world yours?

Pandora
A powerful dark sorceress with the ability to call forth monsters from the Abyss and enslave them to her will. Her burning hatred for the world and its people leads her to follow Ragnarok with unwavering loyalty.

Ragnarok
The god of darkness, who seeks dominion over the human realm. Once an extremely powerful being in the form of a monstrous demon, he has now been reduced to a mere soul. He wishes to plunge the entirety of the human realm into darkness, in part out of spite for his counterpart; the goddess of light, Lumielle.

Lanith
Beautiful, deadly, and self absorbed to a tee, Lanith is a succubus with a never ending hunger for the lifeforce of men. Having served under Pandora since she was only a child, she has a knack for getting under her skin, and does so whenever the opportunity arises.

Damien
A deeply twisted and sadistic young man, Damien loves nothing more than manipulating others and watching them squirm. While he has kept his true nature a secret, Ragnarok’s uprising marks the perfect opportunity for him to cut loose and have some fun...by killing as many enemies as possible.

Azrielle
The lord of all demons, who is fiercely loyal to Ragnarok and possesses an extreme, seething hatred for humanity. After failing to aid his master in conquering the world the first time, he has no intention of repeating the same mistakes again.

I'm back, baby!

Hey everybody, hope you've been doing well. I'm pleased to say I was just recently discharged from rehab, so at long last after over a month I'm home. They ran a whole lot of tests on me and I had several surgeries, so I am finally no longer in danger of croaking. That means I'm finally free to double down on game development, when I'm not stuck sitting in some doctor's office that is. Thank you all for your well wishes, they went a long way towards improving my mental health through that strenuous time. Welp, that's enough chatter. I've got some game making to do.

Posts

Of course. Although the sequel is actually called Luminous Soul. It'll be different from this game, but hopefully just as fun.
Hi Wheel,

I just finished the game and I just wanted to let you know that one of my favorite parts of the game is interacting with the world and watching the characters' reactions. I love that the characters in the game are so expressive. Sometimes I just explore and mix my characters to see a different interaction. I wish to see more on the ultimate edition. You really nailed it!
Hey thanks! Writing the dialogue was one of the most fun aspects of building the game for me, though sometimes I ran out of things to say. There are a few more interactions in the ultimte edition, and some new scenarios that give certain characters some more time in the spotlight. Hopefully you'll enjoy them. Thanks for playing!
Hiya, i wanna report bug that i find, when you fighting damien with slime, he will not take the slime like the other summon do but when slime die the game totaly crashed, pls fix this, btw i like your game im waiting for your future update :)
Thanks for the report Nizar. No worries, I nipped that bug in the booty a while ago, but you won't see the fix until the ultimate edition is released. Damien now actually makes a comment asking if you want to summon something else, because taking control of such a lame monster is a letdown. It's a simple way to switch that fight to easy mode, because the slime can't do anything other than throw itself at you. Also there was an issue where the game would crash if you defeat the summon Damien steals instead of Damien himself, which I've fixed as well. Thanks again for the heads up!
Wait, you can get a slime summon before Arcfall? Did I miss something??
You can get the slime pretty much at the very beginning of the game. All you have to do is head to Arcfall, pay the tuition fee and follow the questline until you receive your very own squishy partner. I didn't consider anyone would do that so early on, hence why I forgot to program in a reaction from Damien if you fight him using the slime. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess.
Best game! 10/10 will replay again d:
oh yeah, there are bug in last battle in capital city too, you can use Dark Portal inside capital city and playable character like damien, azrielle etc can be recruit with dark portal and inside the capital city when pandora and her summon only who can enter, you can recruit other playable character with dark portal that make it easy to fight phase 1 angel of death ( im forget her name ) without dead xd
Oof, I remember that one. No worries, I've taken care of that one too. The ultimate edition will have less bugs than a five star restaurant owned by Gordon Ramsay. Also, thanks for the props, Somber.
Hey, hope all is going well!

Just wanted to drop by and say that if you need help with beta testing anything, I wouldn't mind volunteering a bit of time to help out

I'm a bit of a bug hunter/game glitcher as a hobby sometimes. I've never attempted to do much game breaking or bug hunting in VX Ace (or any RPG Maker engine for that matter), but I could see it being a fun little adventure to learn. If you'd like any help with searching for bugs, sequence breaks, glitches, exploits etc in any particular areas or maps etc, feel free to let me know!
Thanks Zuriel, that's kind of you to offer. The main reason why the initial release had so many errors is because I was the only one looking over the project. Fortunately, a bunch of the good folks here on rmn have volunteered their time to help me make sure that doesn't happen again. You can never be too thorough when it comes to testing, so I'd appreciate the help. I'll be in touch once I've finished the ultimate edition. Thanks in advance!
Hey I just want to say, this game is amazing. 10/10. Great characters, plot and story.

Thanks a million Shadow, glad you enjoyed it!
How's the game going? It's strange how only your game makes me behave like an annoying leecher (release when) but it's just that good.
One of the best game you can find on this site. Yet why lying about a sequel or some "ultimate edition" for a 2017 game which received no update since five years ?

Dont misunderstand me, im really thankful to you, the author, for making such exciting little gem, as many here.

I have played and replayed it and will replay it in a near future. But please, stop teasing nothingness with some " I'm aiming to have the ultimate edition done by the end of the year". Or "i will work on this and that" to deliver nothing at end. Its obvious.

Just "im done with this game, glad you enjoyed it" and thats all, simple as that.

People who truly loved your free work will not bark or belittle you. Really.

Yo people! Sorry I haven't popped in for a while, but the circumstances in my life have changed dramatically. Allow me to be perfectly clear; I have not lied about making a sequel or an improved edition of this game. I keep setting goals for myself to finish by a certain time because people want a general time frame for when it will be out, but events keep happening in my life that get in the way. I expected to be done by the end of the year, but my recent heath issues have been stalling me.

I won't say I am done with this game because that simply is not true. I've already posted several blogs about the features I've been working on, so there's evidence that I have been working on it.

I'll tell it to you straight. My health is bad. REALLY bad. Things took a turn for the worse for me at the end of the year and now I'm stuck in the hospital getting poked and prodded every day. It's infuriating. I'll post a blog about the details soon, but needless to say it's affected my ability to work on my game.

I understand your frustration, and I'm sorry I keep failing to meet the expectations I keep setting, but I am only human and am trying my best. I will never give up on my game no matter how long it takes, but right now I am going through what is easily the worst time in my life. Maybe I should've said something sooner, but I was afraid of disappointing everyone so I kept pushing myself. My health is no longer giving me that luxury, so I need to slow things down.

Just as you are thankful to me for creating this game, I am thankful to you, the players, for giving it a chance. The fact that even one person enjoyed it enough to play it multiple times is enough to make all the effort worth it. That is why I'm not giving up. I have a vision for this game and I want to see it come true. I want to be able to know that I've given players the best experience I possibly could, free from glitches. I know it's been a long time, but I haven't turned my back on this game.

I hope I haven't come off as angry or rude, it's just that I'm going through a lot right now and I'd appreciate more of your patience. Thanks for commenting, and for playing my game. It really means a lot to me.
