Thank you everyone

So a funny thing happened to me last night. I was browsing rmn just as I always do, when suddenly a notification popped up. "Nice," I thought, "Maybe one of the games I've been following has been updated!" Upon dragging my mouse over the notices tab, I was met with the words "You received a new achievement, the Game Featured!" Now at first I thought this must have been the result of a few possibilities:
1) It was a glitch
2) It was an elaborate prank designed to give me a heart attack
3) I had finally stayed up late for so long that I had lost the ability to distinguish fantasy from reality.

Clicking on the main page, I was greeted by that all too familiar purple and black castle. It was then that I had realized it was true. My game had been featured...
After squealing at the screen for what must have been upwards of five minutes, the reality of what had just happened finally started to sink in. This means more to me than anyone will ever know.

As I've mentioned before, Umbral Soul was originally a personal project I designed for myself, seen and played only by me. One day, while browsing rmn, I stumbled upon a game called Shinra Duel Adventures. I thought the mapping was great, and I could tell that an enormous amount of effort had gone into eventing the game, so I decided to show my appreciation for the dev's hard work by sending them an email. The two of us got to talking and he encouraged me to present my game to the public. At first I was hesitant, doubtful of my ability to create anything worthy of the public eye, but his support spurred me on to take the plunge.

Now, ages later, I've made many new friends, connected with other devs, received a ridiculous six reviews, had let's play's posted on youtube, and finally been featured on the front page of the website that I have admired from afar for years. Heck, even Liberty said she was going to give it a go! This community that I had been so afraid to join for the longest time has shown me so much kindness, it is completely and utterly overwhelming.

None of this would have happened if my friend hadn't spoken those kind words to me. If not for him, Umbral Soul would've remained locked in a folder sitting on my desktop forever. That is why I want to encourage anyone who has a game in development. If you're reading this, don't give up. Don't doubt your abilities. Don't stop learning, tinkering, experimenting and growing, because you can make something special. Don't create the project someone else wants to see, create the game you want to see. The key to seeing a game through to the end is enjoying what you do.

You aren't on your own, either. This site is filled with kind and experienced people who are willing to share the tips and tricks they've learned. Game making can be daunting, but as you learn, new and exciting possibilities will open up for you. If there's anything in this game you'd like to know how to do, send me a message and I'd be happy to share.

So I'm giving a great big thank you to everyone; the players for giving my game a shot, the devs that provided me with knowledge and inspiration, the mods for electing my game worthy to be featured, and you for reading this long-winded rant from a guy who is way too happy for his own good. Thank you all, you're all awesome. Rpg maker forever, baby!

It's well-eared bud. And don't worry, I did give it a go. It's a pretty good game you got here. There's a few mapping issues here and there, and some writing mistakes but otherwise it's a very solid showing. Bask in your accomplishment, dude. You deserve it!

Oops it was a glitch.

(j/k its actually an elaborate prank)

actually this is all a hallucination from lack of sleep go to bed

I knew it! You fiends! I'm waiting for Morpheus to appear any second to show me how deep the rabbit hole goes. Thanks Libs, that means a lot, especially coming from you. As for you kentona, you're officially off my christmas card list.
Honestly I was wondering why your game wasn't featured yet.... you more than deserve it ;)

..... nah who am I kidding we are all caught in a mass illusion cast by Ragnarok to make us think the game is featured while he drains us of our life essence while we play.... truly a fiendish plan.

Thank you for such a good game ;-)
Of course, It all makes sense now! Everything I know is a lie! Curse you dasgibtesnet for shattering my naive delusions! You shall suffer a thousand deaths for this, this I swear!

Seriously man, thanks for the support. I'm glad so many people were entertained by it, and I'm making the next version even better in some regards.
if there is anyone on this site who deserves to have a featured game, that is you! congratsssssss ^____^
Good for you Wheelman! You deserve it! I can't wait to get back to this game, I had to stop at the worst possible time: Any time. Can't wait until when you get a Misao or 4!
Oh snap dude, I thought you were either dead or in a coma! Let's not start talking crazy here, if I were to even come close to getting a Misao, I would probably keel over and die. My blood pressure is probably 489/390 right now. Where's my lisinopril?! Bring me a paper bag!
Congrats, it's a well deserved achievement. All that is left is the misao for this game, then getting both featured and another misao on the sequel. You did a good job covering what I'd say most of us love about rpgs, while minimizing the annoying bits. As someone who has played a ton of rpgs (snes era up to current), I can honestly say that your game is better than anything that game companies put out these days. As a comparison, I probably have like 50 rpgs for my ps2, and mayby 10 for my ps3, and barely any of them are memorable.

Of course, there is the off chance that you have entered an alternate reality that has reversed everything of the true universe...who can say.
Oh you all just love messing with me don't you? I take it all back, this place is filled with jerks! Extremely friendly, likable jerks!

Thanks demonlord, that's some insanely high praise you just gave there, and it really means a lot. The great thing about developing games yourself is that you can cut out all the padding and tedium and get straight to the fun. I believe a lot of commercial games cut their potential by padding themselves out so they can say there's 500 hours worth of gameplay to be had. I'd rather enjoy a short amount of fun gameplay than a large amount of gameplay that is fun at times yet tedious at others. Thanks again, buddy! I hope you enjoy my future games just as much.
Congrats on your game being featured! :D
Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D
Congrats on the well-deserved feature! Take a day off or something.
I saw this game while ago but didn't give it a go because the premise and the intro doesn't really attractive but boy I was wrong. I finally play it because it got featured and became popular and got rave reviews. The story and plots, music and gameplay are ok. The characterization, cutscenes, battles, dialogues are great. Some dialogues are funnier than comedy games. This piece of art deserve and sequels or trilogy or whatever. I want to see more of this world and this story, the characters. The ending even make me want to play more and hoping for other episodes. It's a crime that you wanted to keep this game to yourself, lolz. This game will win the next Misao award. Guarantee it! Overall it's a good RPG, a good game period, regardless of RPG Maker or not. Probably the best RPG Maker game ever made, certainly one of the best. It's certainly better quality and more enjoyable than a lot of commercial games and Steam games.
All I can say at this point is wow. I mean WOW! Even after all this time I can't believe people are having such a good time with this game. I mean, there's plenty of room for improvement, and I'm fairly jealous of other rpg maker games that have breathtaking professional level mapping. All this incredible feedback makes me want to improve my skills and produce even more entertaining games.

Don't worry, there's a lot more to this game's story, so you can look forward to watching that story unfold through future games. Regarding the whole "Misao" thing, I can already die happy knowing this game's popularity exceeded my wildest dreams. If I were to ever get a Misao, my heart would probably stop. I mean, it'd be great, but I wouldn't be able to make any more games, being dead and all.
This is exactly the kind of thing I needed to read. I've been struggling with doubts about my own project. Thanks for the STR buff, yo!
No problemo, now get out there and make a game! I'll be rooting for ya all the way.
Sir Redd of Novus: He who made Prayer of the Faithless that one time, and that was pretty dang rad! :D
No problemo, now get out there and make a game! I'll be rotting for ya all the way.

Please don't rot, man. I don't think that'll have the effect you intend.
What? I never told you I was 1/8th zombie on my mother's side? Because I am. Nobody likes a zombie racist Nova.
