In a small town encircled by trees, mysterious events are unfolding. Pet rabbits are going missing, people have been injured, and the townsfolk are whispering about something lurking in the woods... Since none of the adults want to do anything about this, it's going to be up to you to get to the bottom of it.

Before you can do that, however, simply getting into the woods might be a problem.

Red Trees is a roughly forty minute-long adventure game with mild horror elements. It features custom music and graphics, a colourful cast of characters, and a lot of bunnies. It's best enjoyed in a bright room with a warm cup of tea.

Red Trees v1.5 update

Hello, everyone! It's been a while.

This month marks Red Trees' third anniversary. In light of this, I've spent the past month or so working on a pretty big update to the game: the version 1.5 update.

So what's new in 1.5?

  • All of the music and most of the sound effects have been updated.

  • Certain visuals have been updated, particularly those pertaining to the UI. Most of the original character and map art remains intact, however.

  • Dialogue has been added, and a some sections of dialogue have been altered.

  • There's a brand new custom pause menu which brings with it a couple of new features: the ability to view the item you're holding in detail, and a log of all the characters you've met thus far.

  • You can run on outdoor maps now.

  • ... And various other minor changes which aren't significant enough to list.

Version 1.5 is out now and available for download! You can get it here, or you can get the version with the VX Ace RTP bundled in over at the game's itch.io page. If you preferred the old version, though, not to worry; it will also remain available for download here.

Finally, I just want to say that I'm incredibly grateful for the support that has been shown to Red Trees over the past 3 years. It may only be a small and insignificant game in the grand scheme of things, but every single message I've received from someone telling me that they enjoyed it has meant the world to me. Version 1.5 is, to me, the best version of this game that I could make while still retaining still retaining its heart, and now that it's here, I hope you enjoy playing it as much as I enjoyed working on it.

You did a nice job for the art style and the personality of the characters
This is definitely my jam, can't wait to give it a try!
I had so much fun with this game =D

So cute! So nice <3
I love it!
The art, story and characters are adoreble! And the dialogues are so funny! Good work!
Yooo! It's complete?! I've been waiting for this.
This game was crazy good lol loved the ending and the description of inspectable items... very cute
The game is really cute! Five-colour graphics and eight-bit music really makes me remember old games like the very first pokemons (blue and red versions), so I fell for this game from the very beginning. Sorry to say that it was one-sided love: the speed of the main hero is too slow to really fully enjoy the game.

The ending is unpredictable (as most of the mini-quests in the game: you never know what reward will you receive and sometimes you should show this abject to many people, because you don't know who will ask you for it), very friendly and cute, that's why "Red Trees", in my opinion, is worth playing!
Game is kind of cute... but that a crazy town you made, everyone there are super weirdous, especially protagonist's mother.
And then silent protagonist suddenly started to talk at the end of game it was shocked for me )
Shocked in good way.
Hey. I played this, and it was... Cute. The art is really good, i like it and the story... A bit too short, but nice :) Good job!
Amazing game :3 I stuck sometimes and want to move faster so badly, but the cuteness is more that enough O wO0/ so AWESOME!
I'm Slightly embarrassed to say this but im stuck in the water can part, please help?
I love it so much...we (at least I X'D) need more games like this.
My heart melted.❤️
And I love the crossing river puzzle. It's one of my fave classic puzzles, and it's a surprise to see it in a rpg maker game.
I just started playing this and I like it already - the colors are bright but not obnoxious, as it often is, and enjoyable dialogues.

Cool game, that ending was unexpected! I think the fisher was very wise, I saved his advices. The shopkeeper girl was so tired she touched my heart </3 same for the mopping girl and those indirects of the restaurant. Universal emptiness is free!

Something that bothered me a bit, that the unidentified meat could have been human meat, and the monster would like then eating such meat if he/she started tasting, but who knows?

was a short and nice game. Well-made, no bugs, short and simple, like it. Just point out that it would be good if one´s able to run because the protagonist girl is a bit slow.

Buns. Hell, I want lots of Buns.
Honestly, a very cute game and even with the mild horror aspect to it, it kept me on my toes! The art style is lovely, the music is very nice, a bit loud in my opinion but it could just be my computer. The puzzles weren't too hard, but it wasn't super simple either. I wish there was a running option because I'm an impatient person, but I loved the game either way!! Fantastic job.

I did finally get to play this. It was an enjoyable fun time.

I'm still standing beside my desire for a run button. Disabling run is only for if atmosphere and locales are your game's draw, like Dear Esther or games like Journey that intentionally slow you down at key points. This game had none of that so it was just an inconvenience. I'm known for my patience in some circles but this really isn't about patient or impatient. It's just a convenience that was intentionally removed at the benefit of nothing.

Still, though, this is a great game because it's so simple and just outright enjoyable. It doesn't intentionally rip at the heartstrings like Listen or To The Moon, it doesn't try to do anything big and sublime like Journey or The Last of Us. It just does it's simple thing and the player walks away with fond memories.
Oh my gosh, this has become one of my favorite games on RMN!

At first of playing, I thought "Um... this may be boring. It seems that all I have to is to trade stuff. I'm little bit tired of that." But in the end, it turned to "I need more trading stuff!"

This game has no exciting content to speak of, so I don't recommend it to those who expect it to be exciting. But the little surprises you can have here and there in the game and its cute, unique face graphics of the folks really please some gentlemen like me.

About the run button:
Personally, I didn't particularly need a run button because the game is short and the town is not so large to wander about, and had no trouble to progress it, except for that little girl I tried to be mean to her by saying NO. I always say NO when the choices popped out. XD

Though I said that, the unabled to dash was just inconvenient sometimes. (especially when you get stucked) So, if she would learn to dash at somewhere on her way or just get an item to enable it, I could tell I enjoyed the game more!
Just finished the game and I absolutely loved the graphics, the music, and the warm and nice feeling you get when playing this. Games of this kind always help me to calm down and feel better, thank you for creating such a cute little story!
I remembered your description before starting the game and did indeed enjoy it in a bright room and with a warm cup of tea. (´ω`*)
Also the characters are so adorable, I want to draw some of them now! Once again thank you so much for this wonderful game~!♡
