Note: I DID NOT MAKE THIS. It is a translated project from German.
It was originally created by Kelven. I had his permission to translate it. Even though I did not make it, I put a lot of working into completely translating this, including having to redo many picture graphics, many messages, etc.

Requirements: RTP. Font patch for best gaming experience.

Story: Taking place somewhere in California, the game follows Sandra Richmont, who was traveling with her parents to visit their uncle. After an argument and a bathroom stop, her parents appear to have driven off without her. Thinking that her parents plan to stay overnight in the nearest city, Dusty Creek, Sandra heads towards there. However, after meeting two others who are stranded, she realizes that they are trapped and the city has some dark secrets...

The gameplay consists of solving puzzles, adventure game style. If you need a walkthrough, there's one included in the game folder. However, it's in German, so you can try to babelfish it or something.

WARNING: When you are poisoned in the mines, do not begin the cart pushing puzzle until you have found the antidote. Otherwise you can't get it later and can't beat the game (if you save.) I actually could have fixed this bug, but it was in the original and I wanted to leave all of the coding 100% intact.

Everything has been translated, from dialogue to pictures.
The game utilizes 99% custom graphics created by Kelven, who took the effort to make nearly everything examinable, all drawers/cabinets openable and examinable, and has pumped out probably 20 or so games. (Which all have mostly custom graphics I think.)

HEY.

IF YOU NEED HELP GETTING DESERT NIGHTMARE TO RUN:

Pop me a message on AIM: AznChipmunk99
and I will personally help you to get it started and answer any questions you may have. I didn't realize that my translations would've been noticed at all, so I wasn't prepared for this, but I can help anyone who is trying to get it to work.

Hopefully, people will stop leaving messages that it doesn't work.

I just played this game and I really loved it! It wasn't too short or too long but just right length too.

Ah, and thank you for the walk through, I got stuck at couple of places so it helped me.

Can't wait till you localize another game!

This game was fun, though the ending was a bit sad, I thought the nerddy alan would survive and he and sandra would live happily ever after, till jake rose from the dead to get his revenge :p

Wow, I came here looking for a fix to the "Runtime not found" and you post the biggest spoiler possible.

Thanks you arsehole.
Not sure if you were aware, but Kelven has made another game for this series. It's not a sequel, but seems like it's going to be a series as the name is Urban Nightmare.

If you could translate this I'd be the happiest person in the world, ahaha.
I've taken an interest in it. I can't promise anything for sure but I'll take a look at it.
I have a problem.. When I try to launch the game it says "RunTime Package not found. install RTPe.exe". Do I have to download it somewhere or what should I do? Please help :(
Oh wait... Never mind. I think I found the solution..
Im sorry to say this the game is well developed i wont deny that the genre horror i think is wrong because this is a suspense game.
There is one thing im not convinced and is that someone was able to finish this game because i have been stucked in this game since a while ago
The first time i played this game it was the original german version after playing for a while there was a problem i got stucked in the third day when you need to serach the fuel for the car until this point the game is playable, but when you need to search the fuel you got stuck in both versions because there is something you need in the clothing store i readed both walktrough and both mention a handle and this is the problem because the only handle you are able to find until this point is the drawer handle and nothing else and trust me after checking every inch of the game it was tiresome and after 7 hours in booth games and not finding the handle needed it gets boring because nobody says where do you find the handle for the clothing store and if is a bug well i think the translator should fix any game breaking bug because thats what it means being a games translator
By the way the only way to get the second handle is editing the game and getting this handle in the beginning thats what i did
Edit: i founded the handle error in translation is shovel not spade the second error the shovel is mentioned in the shack
I've played through this game two or three times, I enjoy it, I even just finished an LP of it, but one thing bugs me..what is the Small Key used for? The one you get by digging up the dog with the shovel. Unless I unlocked something with it without knowing, I've got no idea what it's for, but I always collected it.
I have a question about Desert Nightmare (English translation). The instructions say the RTP (RPG Maker 2003) is required to play the game. But it looks like all the files necessary to run the game are there. By changing the full package flag the game runs without the RTP. I.e. inserting 'FullPackageFlag=1' in the Game.ini file allows you to run the game without any errors.

I am able to get into the game without the RTP installed. Usually there are errors in this circumstance if the RTP is actually required, because some system file would be missing. However, I haven't played through the whole game. I dunno if I have time to do that. I may try to play through the whole game without the RTP installed on my system, but I wonder if anyone else would give it a try who can maybe do a speed run. Just edit the Game.ini by adding as the last line 'FullPackageFlag=1' and play through without any RTP installed if you want to try it.
Can you also upload the original German version? I'm currently learning German so I'd love to try playing it in German.
There was a link in the description, but I guess it's broken. Search for it on this site: http://rpg-atelier.net/
I can't make an AIM acc bcuz I live in Belgium, but is there another way for you to explain how to install the game? I really wanna play it :)
Thanks
I am really excite to play this game but when I tried to run it said this "Runtime Package not found Install RTPe.exe", could someone please help me with this, what should I do?
I can't play it it gives RTPe.exe error
this game is a real master piece.
There are a few bits that are untranslated, but they are pretty minor.
The storyline ends up being very nice I think, but one thing that was also quite nice is the way that it manages to show a few interesting interpersonal relationships and chats in between the scary stuff.
I remember how edgy some of these 2k3 games were back in the day, lol. My cousin kinda got a little obsessive with the whole thing.
Very nice game, seriously. It was a long time since I had the opportunity of playing such a great and hard-puzzed game! A not-to-forget-anything exploration game with a silent hill like format in the RPG Maker I didn't see before. My congratulations to the german dude and many thanks to the traductor, god bless you to bring us this masterpiece. You really did a good work!

And what to say about the game...you really need to play this. I mean, if you are a horror fan gamer you simply have the duty to play it. The game format reminds a lot of the survival horror classics like Resident Evil, Silent Hill, Dino Crisis... Find a key that opens another door where you get a tool that will help you opening another door. The fact that many times you will have no idea of what to do or where to go its's something that nowadays has been completely forgotten. What a pity tbh. Anyways, thanks again for making this possible.
