This remix of ABL contains upgraded graphics and sound and should be considered the definitive version; it has three to four hours of gameplay beyond the end of the previous release, which was entitled THE LINE NARROWS.

What was originally one game has been split into two due to the release of RMXP, so I'm marking ABL 2.1 as 'Complete.' Don't laugh! The second half of the game will be released in RMXP as LINE'S END, and will have a separate entry on RMN.

Okay, now you can laugh. ^_^

Thank you Acheia, found this game again while looking over a lot of other games and thought I had left a msg. :)
Now I have to find the RTP :( I know it's here somewhere :)
Just saw this today and am totally excited...while also prepping myself to be disappointed again. Oh well, better to dream!
lol Blurred Line....
I know I want it, can't let it get past me xDDDDD
Anyway, looks good, downloading now ^_^
Why I can't play it?
I have already install RTP 2000. But when run there's a warning message "can not open file vehicle".
You may have to try and re-install the RTP again. I've had that happen a few times when I used to use Vista, and it seemed I had to re-install the RTP multiple times.
Good Game so far. Though I gotta say, the driving stages make me wanna puch lysander68 in the face. And then punch him in the face some more. God I hate the driving stages.

1. Because you start of the vehicle at impossible to control speed, you will fail multiple times even if you're a god of refexes before even making the first screen.
2. The main reason why the driving stage enrages me is, that while the traffic pattern is always the same, controlling to which lane I jump when pressing up or down is unpredictable. You can move only one lane if you very carefully tab the button, but as soon as you try to do so, you already crash into another vehicle, hammering the space button in rage for another shot. The dev got really carried away with the driving here.
3. While giving me the option to let go of the driving stage, there's still the pot o' gold sitting on top of all this. Every stage you master yourself you get a reward, even if in an later stage you "give up".
4. BUT you really screwed me over because the game tells you right when the track begins that "less accidents, better reward" which is a LIE but of course led me to constantly restart the game to try and make it without dying once. When the third stage rolled over I really wanted to end you.

Make it really hard, but please dear god not impossible to make it on first try. A level on Silver Surfer on the NES is more likely to be beat on first try than this driving stage. The challange on any game should not consist of how crippled the controls are.

Other than that I love the cyberpunkisch setting. I love Lysander68 Games anyway (The Blue Contestant, Frozen World, Book of Three) so I'll enjoy it alot. Still.. I also hope that at some point I find a doctor, since I refused the offer of King Pin to fix my leg.
I just finished this pretty nice game... :)

Where is Line's end? was it ever made? at the end it states 2003... considering this version (2.1) was made in 2007... i really doubt the sequel ever got relesed in 2003... probably ever...

Is it still in developpement? or was it cancelled? Just curious to know :)

Thank you for making such a nice and interesting game! :)

And i agree about the car stage i just gave up on it.. hehe...

It's all dusty, and it's not been seen of the light day, duke nukem is having a great time.
It's a shame that Lines End will probably never come out. The entire planet's population should play this game at least once. Part of me hopes that Lys returns to it and remakes it and the conclusion and puts it on steam but that's just really hopeful wishing.

To clear up a confusion with the 2000 Rtp theres 2 you need to get
the 1.0 and the 1.32
the 1.0 will fix the missing Vehicle and Basis error

also if the text looks really bad try turning off ClearType Text(its a program that smooths text and normally makes it look better)

Random Thoughts

Got to love games where you actually dont start as lvl 1
does it not drive you crazy when your character is supposed to be a veteran yet has shit gear or even nothing and is lvl 1!?

really good story setup! unexpected!

choices choices!

dam that rock puzzle was frustrating XD

cool how theres different dialog depending if you made it on time or not :D
sadly seems you could not make a ally out of both gangs

framed!?

using a item you may not have as a optional event? good stuff!

the power of Aura! :D

well having the person you were framed to have murdered still be alive is a really bad plot move
how would they not notice???
in this case why are they chasing you???
who was the assassin???

should seriously allow the players to save b4 making a choice in what sector to go to!

seems the agency is taking names! known people in towns disappearing!

lmao at the blond girl in front of the shop! she does something rude and Talon is like
"so people are the same all over" XD
^ jab at the stereo type that people in small towns are friendly XD

how old is the director!? he was already old in a long ago flashback!

i want a simulation thing! : (

password?

where is the dam battle rink!? no one ever gives directions!

random battles getting annoying now need something that cancels them

dont like the Aura learning, its just a annoying side quest to waste time

sucks the inventory is not separated with usable, key items and gear

sigh...the game goes pretty heavily down hill at paradise completely ignoring the plot
worse sicne theres 3 paths you wont be satisfied as you wont see everything w/o re doing it!

max lvl is 50

cant believe there was no save in the area where you fight the captain and the old lady saves you!

how do the items effect kersh? is there a difference in what happens???

the princess simulation part was EXTREMELY annoying

didnt expect the story to not end

lines end is the sequel? was it ever made?

questions spoilers

where was the battle rink i never found it

did we get the password for the door in the 1st town after you cross the bridge?

did your job choice in paradise have a effect on the game outside of items you obtain and the couple things related to it?

did obtaining the special items while Kersh was with you effect anything?

did failing the power minigame have a effect?

likes

-The story is well written imo
-the female character from paradise
-the mapping was hit and miss
-Grammar,this guy was on point in his writing!

Dislikes

-The random battles
-The Male mcs dialog when kersh was in that state,he was too much of a dick
-the Aura learning system
-the item/gear/K item organization(cant be helped with this engine i suppose)
-princess simulation mini game
-stat boost items (especially buyable ones)
-no full map transport(airship or something would of been nice tho this is not needed as long as you don't need to do optional stuff)
-story does not conclude in game

Overall
i have heavy mixed feelings about recommending this between pros and cons
i wish the battles were story only
that alone would of made the game much more enjoyable
the choices while awesome left me in a unsatisfied state always thinking maybe i should of choose another path...
but for the engine and the time this game was initially made id say it was a great experience.

id say this was mostly a good experience and to try it out quite a few hours worth of gameplay
Half a year since the last post, but might as well!

I've been looking for information on Line's End. Everything is either really old or other people asking about. To add to the countless questions... is this still being worked on? When I finished A Blurred Line this morning and saw the sequel is coming this winter I got really excited, then saw it was supposed to be winter 12 years ago.

By the way, this is my favorite RPG Maker game. Probably top 10 ever. Something about it...
One of the greatest RM2k games ever created, and it was never finished.

We can only hope Lysander decides to finish it and that the line ends.

Top 10 for me too. Maybe one day lys will come back and finish it
Anyone have an idea why I can't see the font in this game? I have installed the 2k fonts...

re: no screenshots, this game was posted in the early days of RMN, prior to current game page standards.

Still a great game, warts and all. Enjoyed most of the content even more this time through. Some of the minigames grew tedious and ruined immersion, but one has to expect it given the time period in which it was made (FF7 influence and all).

The Lashe sequences are impeccably balanced and the combat is surprisingly engaging despite your limited arsenal. The game does tend to get too easy, but, like FF8, the difficulty will vary based on how well you utilize the central mechanic: Talon's Aura skills.

The simulation ABS annoyed me way more this time (dark catcombs wut). Most of the other minigames are great and are integrated painlessly into the story.

The story and the character mechanics are the driving forces here, much like FF6. Aura remains one of my favorite takes on the blue magic concept. Emily's radio is kinda "meh" but whatevs. RNG wasn't as evil fifteen years ago.

This game has the "vibe" that a lot of RPG gamers look for as someone mentioned above. It's the same vibe as Chrono Trigger, FF6, and FF7: fast, clever, smooth. These games invoke emotion; they are simple games but fun and engaging experiences. Certain other RM games have it (Hero's Realm, Forever's End, and oddly enough Polymorphous Perversity come to mind), and I think it's all related to flow and pacing. This goes beyond the story: battles, exploration, etc. all form the complete experience, and it has to flow really well. An annoying puzzle or battle could take the player out of the entire experience, even if your custom art or story is amazing. The game's quality tends to diminish after Paradise but this is mainly because the level design is somewhat basic and the areas tend to drag on a bit in those later stages. These minor issues are overshadowed by the great story.

In hindsight, the chests really are overabundant by about 50 percent; this over-saturation ("too much of a good thing") could've been alleviated by consolidation; instead of 3 chests containing gear for 3 different missable characters, you could have one chest containing gear depending on which person joined your party. This would certainly help the pacing while romping through the maps.

The maps.

The mapping could be so much better but everyone knows this - I mean, it was made in 2001-2003. I'll take a fun and aged game over a pretty and crappy one any day of the week. (Though I'll take a pretty and fun game over 'em all, and we're seeing a few of those lately!)

It would be a shame if Lys didn't finish telling this story, since it's highly engaging.
Amen to that, Deckiller. If he did a kickstarter to help him free up time to finally finish the game I would totally join it. I don't see a reason why he should takt the time to learn a different platform first, because I just played the demo of Vampires Dawn 3 made with MV and my Quadcore PC already stutters when there's a simple snow animation happening. Just stick to 2000 or 2003. ABL was never about graphics anyway.

It so terribly sad that he isn't even seen on the internet in general all that much, at least under this nickname.
https://twitter.com/Lysander86 doesn't look like he's the same person.
I need Screenshots from ingame instead of titlescreen please.
I want to see what the Charas look like. Especiale if the big headed
SD Charas are used. I don't like thm.
The other thing I want to know is if there Battles in it.

I actually think the map *design* of this game is great. The maps flow very well, the game constantly rewards the player for exploring, and Lysander ensured that the player knows where to go. But yeah, they're not very pretty.

Great write up!
