Let's go back!

Oh... yeah! But later, first let's write this review...

Hello! And welcome to Back to Felix, a Pewdiepie fangame! Yes, in this game we will play as Pewdiepie OR Felix Arvid Ulf Kjellberg (NOW you understand the title, didn't you?), a Swedish YouTuber from Gothenburg known for his Let's Play videos and comedic videos and shows. Well it's not very important to know him, Marzia Bisognin, the italian youtuber that later became his wife and their two pugs, Edgar and Maya... but it will help. Anyway this game is still enjoyable if you just have a vague idea, it could be called "Famous Youtuber X" and still it would made sense!

But what kind of game is this? Back to Felix is an adventure game made by Ptimiya with RPG Maker VX Ace in 2016, the same year in which also Pokemon Go was released, and in fact that madness is also rapresented in this adventure, even if not central to the story. The plot is in fact about Pewdiepie and her mother, that tells him that all his fame and fortune is an illusion: he technically is just a loser that suffers from hallucinations, a man with no job, no fame, not even a girlfriend or dogs since also these are just creations of his mind! So he has to convince himself that he's just a nobody named Felix!
But is this really the truth or just another illusion? Well play and find out!

Nothing that I'd even remotely tell her!

As explained before this is a short but nice adventure game that will last little more that 1 hour-1 hour and 20 minutes. This means that there is no combat or puzzles, just tasks and quests in which you need to find and use something or give something to someone and so on. Easy, no risk of being stuck anywhere, in any case there are many optional interactions and extra things to do in order to unlock ten optional achievements (I got half of them in my playthrough). And if you are stuck just take some drugs and talk to the statue of the horse in Pewdiepie's house for some hints. I just needed that once, but who knows, if you have doubts just use this opportunity! Oh and remember you can save your game using the toilets!

The game uses art and music by Ptimiya, except one song by Zerocrossing... all is very good and very well done, from the portraits to the charsets and the various locations, that aren't many, big or full of details (except for Pewdiepie's mansion and Gothenburg) but they look cool thanks to a good use of tilesets and lightning (except few bare-bones exceptions like the strip club).

The aestetics are good but how is the game? Well I found it fun, due to the surreal situations, place and people encountered (like Heather, or the bum that looks like Pewdiepie's clone), there's some humour but also mystery and is overall enjoyable, the tasks are simple enough and there is probably no need for a walkthrough, anyway there are just three minor flaws I'd like to point out:
First, there are some typos here and there, and it's a pity, second there are some imprecisions both on mapping and in some advices of the friendly horse (for example it told me to take a medicine using it from the menu, BUT I still had to receive it!), and finally the ending... that in my opinion was really predictable but ok! As I wrote before, play and see by yourself.

But of course, I agree with that!

Final Verdict
Back to Felix is not a complicated adventure game, it's almost a walking simulator, the only thing you may not like are the typos or the gross-out humour, corny in-jokes and so on, but I admit it was intriguing enough to make me play it to the end. I also liked many solutions to ease the fact that you have to walk around a LOT, like the use of the taxi to fast travel, the use of roller skates to move faster, but the art and visual were very cool, I liked especially the train scene. And the portrait... the're really great.

So this was Back to Felix. A cool and original adventure game, I liked it!
