During RMC's Indie in a week V, I created what I thought would be a fun and simple dungeon crawler. Unfortunately, not enough playtesting led it to be too difficult and not very enjoyable at all. So I had to rebalance it. This rebalance has come out somewhat on the easy side, but I can live with that, maybe with some feedback, I can reach the exact balance.

It all starts with a talk with a certain Bael. Confused, alone and afraid, Erika finds herself trapped in a mysterious cavern where inscrutable forces pull at her and danger lurks at every corner. Can you help her survive the hordes of monsters standing between her and the truth?
She won't be alone in this journey as other people with their own interests and agendas have also been trapped in this underground prison.
Characters:
Erika:

Little is known of this wanderer, she's very confident on her own skills and more than a little naive, but she is determined to find the truth even if it costs her her life. Will her desire be enough carry her through this dark pathway?
A pure melee character, Erika learns only one magical skill and a few support ones she's your tank and she can take the punishment as well as she can deal it.
Valda:

A traveling priestess Who has also found herself trapped in the cavern. Sarcastic and somewhat violent, she's still an steadfast ally.
With few and far between offensive skills, despite her personality, Valda is mostly a support character. It falls on her shoulders to keep the team alive and healthy and she's well equipped for it.
Faith:

A mage and scholar from the Lyseria university, Faith unlike our two previous characters has been exploring the caves out of her own free will. Untrusting and with a sharp tongue Faith has some trouble fitting in your party; but her need for survival is stronger than her mistrust... for now.
Taking advantage of elemental weaknesses (most enemies have them *wink, wink*) Faith is the most offensive minded character of the party, sadly she's sorely lacking in the defense department making her fall to enemy attacks and strong breezes alike. Be sure to keep her alive!

Rmn Gem? Oh, you!

Just as the game is reaching a hundred downloads someone clearly of not sound mind has decided to feature it on the front page!

What can one say about such an impressive and unexpected honor? Is it my Secret Santa gift? I feel like my game could a should be better to be featured, also I'm immensely grateful.

I guess I should say some words about Pathway: Desire....

As most of you know (unless you haven't read the game page) most of this game was made in the span of a week for a contest, exception being the enemy battlers. So I won't deny it is a flawed product, even when it's my best one yet.

Graphically, the game was quite a challenge as I haven't seriously made custom graphics before. There was a lot of fiddling around and learning in the process, but I'm so very proud of how it turned out. I couldn't have done it without the help and support of the fine folks at one discord chat.

Gameplay wise I shamelessly borrowed from Craze's clearly superior Wine and Roses though hopefully it still retains enough of its own personality to not make it a mediocre clone. The dungeon crawling is pretty simple, as I wanted to focus on character customization and skill variety more than anything else.

Story.... is probably the weakest link of the game. While, this story has been in my head in one way or another for a long time; I left it for last and as a result it feels a little underdeveloped and rushed. Particularly during the final area. Now that it has been featured, though, I really feel like I should polish it and fill in what is lacking. I'm just not sure I can recapture the mood, but I'll try. Wish me luck.

Hmmph I wanted to tell some anecdotes and ended up excusing myself over the game. It was hard, it was stressful, it was hectic; but I had one hell of a week making it. Probably the best week of this year. I'm so glad I participated in this contest, I'm so glad I made this game, I'm so fond of its world and characters and I'm crazy thankful to all who played it, downloaded it or even took a look at it.

Thank you guys, from the bottom of my heart. This wouldn't mean anything without you.

First Download. You know you can put files directly on RMN if they are under 400MB?
Makes it easy to download.
Yeah, I know. Thanks for the advice. I was just too lazy/anxious to wait for it to upload when I could just reuse the links I already had from other sites.
Thanks a lot for downloading it. I really, really hope you like it. :)

I was wondering if the square symbol in your menu was intentional? (the square near the numbers.) This is known as a junk symbol. There's a script to get rid of it. PM me if you need it.
Thanks for your help and continued interest, kory_toombs. I know about the bug and have the script to fix it. But that particular square symbol is not there because of the junk font bug, but because the custom font I'm using lacks whatever sign is suposed to appear between the items and their amount. I just decided to live with it and leave the square symbol alone. :P

Are you using Yanfly Core script? I was and had this problem. But if you go to line 269, you'll see Item_Amount + "x%s"

However, on closer inspection, that "x" is actually not a normal x, but the offending character. Replace that with a normal x and it should fix your problem ^_^
Yeah, already fixed it, but thought it would be too much to upload a new version just for that minimal fix. Thanks a lot, Unity. :)

You're welcome :D

Played through the game, and very much enjoyed it! ^_^ I like the characters, the art (especially the facesets :DDD and a lot of the enemies are cool!) the story and the battle system! Buying skills and passives with what you earn from battles instead of getting EXP was fun, too!

My only criticisms are that the ending felt a bit rushed, and sometimes it was hard to keep up with what was happening during enemy turns, as maybe it was just me but things seemed to happen awfully fast.

And this is a bit of a neutral point, as I don't feel it necessarily detracts from anything, but given the limited amount of skills you can equip, after I purchased all I could hold, I rarely bought anything except passives anymore, as I didn't want to sacrifice the skills I had once I had settled on what I thought were good ones.

All in all, an enjoyable experience and a fun game ^_^
Thanks you very much, it means a lot to read that you like it. :)
I won't deny it is a bit rushed towards the end, basically I wanted to add one or two more scenes to the final dungeon. But since this was made for a one week contest I just didn't have the time. Maybe I could flesh it out more now, that's something to consider.
I'm happy that you found the "system" interesting, and sorry about the battle speed, I've been told before that too much happens too fast. Originally i was using yanfly core to make the battles faster, so what you are seeing is actually a slowed version of it. I don't think I can make them any slower, sorry.
Thanks again, it makes me very happy to know when people play and enjoy my game.

The speed isn't a total dealbreaker or anything, just something I thought worth mentioning. And I totally understand about not having time. I've done the same thing in week or even month-long games. ^^;

For being made in a week, this certainly is impressive, and I had fun with it ^_^
