Attack of the mutant rabbits!

Helloooo!
Hey hey, why reviewing this short demo? Well, simple, for three simple reasons:
1) Needs a review.
2) Looks funny and entertaining.
3) Rabbits!

Night of the Lapinoids is clearly inspired by classic horror movies (like Night of the Living Dead, just look at the title), in fact you begin the game choosing "Start the Movie" (while load is "Load a tape" and exit game is "Leave the theatre"), while a group of rabbits in the background creepily stare at you. Ominous music playing in the background.
This is a great start!

The protagonist of this game is Robert. A... hmmm... a scientist? He doesn't know because he has amnesia (other classic clichè that is used well) and wakes up alone in a bathroom, but he wears a lab coat, so there's some possibility...
And then there are the infamous lapinoids, but I will stop here and spoil the fun of playing a cute little adventure.

Night of the Lapinoids is a game about exploration and combat too. The goal is escaping the mysterious facility, but the aggressive lapinoids will pose a threat. Well, a small threat, because combat difficulty is quite low, especially after Robert will find some useful weaponry and an item that unlocks a special attack. But hey, these are just rabbits, aren't they?

Ok. Combat. This is the classic first person Rmk combat (and the first person view is in my opinion perfect for an horror game) against one or more rabbit. You start with a skill that restore a bit of energy, but you will later learn a special attack that is quite powerful and find some weaponry too. Each combat is quite quick and it's resolved in two or three rounds, moreover enemies are always visible (no hated random encounters!), but stay alert for sudden attacks! These rabbits are sneaky!

Are you sure? I mean, ARE YOU REALLY SURE???

Verdict
Night of the Lapinoids is a cute and creepy short adventure: horror and humor are in fact mixed very well, and I loved the atmosphere, the interactions with the several items you will find, and the furious combat against these lovely fluffy killers. Even if the game finishes "in media res" I do not consider it a demo since many horror movies end without a real conclusion of the story (see "The hills have eyes" or "The Crazies"), and leave the story open for some sort of sequel.

So this is my opinion:

+ Cute graphics (White Screw!) and mapping, many interactions with the surroundings.
+ Good choice of music, really atmospheric
+ Easy difficulty and entertaining due to the mix of humor and horror

- Short, I obviously wanted more
- There's no wererabbit! :(

Night of the Lapinoids was a good idea, simple but really well realized, I had fun playing it and exploring every corner of this little game. There are some nice touches (like the beginning, when Robert wakes up with no memory of his past, and both his charset and faceset are rapresented as a confused being) and details thant make this game stand out. And there are no bugs or errors or typos, good job!

The score is 3.5: Night of the Lapinoids is just a little game, but for me this is a special little game!

@RpgmakerAddict - There's actually a movie called Night of the Lepus that has giant bunnies!
I did not know! I assumed this game was inspired by Black Sheep. Same thing but with sheeps!
Black Sheep is more entertaining! XD Night of the Lepus isn't bad but it isn't great. Most of the time they are just regular bunnies walking over miniature set pieces. It's worth checking out if you like bad B movies and where I'm sure Healy got the inspiration for this game.

Oh well ok. But is Healy passionate for rabbits? Bun Bun's Adventure is about a rabbit too! Gotta play and review that game!

Thanks for the kind review! I'm glad you thought it was funny.

Yay, it was 45 minutes of fun. So yes, I like this kind of little funny games.
Especially if they are original and entertaining!
