Story
Due to dire circumstances, Marle and Leofric are accompanied by Pedl, a demon, into an underground cavern said to contain the Archstone. While the Archstone will solve their problem, it cannot be used unless the archdemons nearby are wiped out. Once they are defeated, the power of the Archstone will be theirs.

Features
* No items, no leveling up, no gear, no grinding. Pure battle "boss rush".
* Traditional turn-based battles.
* Players cannot lose, they will simply be resurrected upon death. For the most part.
* Enemies inspired by Kentona's son's sketches.
* All original graphics, tilesets, monsters, icons and animations made by me.
* 8 whole colors in the entire game's palette.
* Scary music from VX Ace Humble Bundle DLC, as well as two artists from Newgrounds.
* Every skill is important. Each damaging skill has an additional effect associated with it.

Why you should play this game
* Short, sweet, to the point.
* No-nonsense gameplay. You're here to fight monsters, and that's what you'll do.
* Pedl is a pretty great character to have in your party.
* Unique enemies, and the battle dynamics change during most every fight.

Warnings
One of the boss has flashing lights for one of this attacks (approx. 1.5 seconds worth). If you are sensitive to flashing lights, this may be troublesome.
One of the enemies includes blood in its character design, but gore is not a major feature of this game.

Why didn't YOU play this game? (LET ME HEAR YOUR THOUGHTS)

So I'm curious as to why you haven't played this game.

I got a little bit of a break this summer, about a couple weeks worth. I was looking through some projects of mine, and I noticed that this game barely broke 100 downloads (and one of them was likely me testing it on another computer). This is one of my favorite releases, even though it never got much attention.

So, I'm curious as to why you didn't play this game. Why is it not interesting, and what would you like to see done better? What would interest you enough to play this game? I have my own thoughts as to why this title was largely neglected (and I can share it in the comments if someone is interested), but I'm curious as to why people aren't interested in this title despite it being featured at one point.

Perhaps you played the game and didn't care for it enough to leave any feedback? That would be helpful, too.

Or maybe you're even looking at this page now and thinking, "This isn't interesting to me." Then why not? What is it that I can do better or focus on more in the future, both with my game page and the game itself?

Thoughts, comments, critiques? I'm open to any and all criticism: let it rip!

Awesome to see this one with a game page. Will the game be the same version as the one on the Kids Design the Darndest Things page?

Hey there! I just posted a thank-you on the event page!

I think you're spot on with the battle animations and music. I will probably work on improving those in a little bit, then I'll upload it. Have to find some good music!

Best of luck! I may give it another play just to see how it turns out ^_^

That would be great, thanks! I found some good tracks from Newgrounds. I think the battle music is MUCH better now. Hope you like it!

Defeated Netslop, fighting Balbo. Died whilst fighting Balbo (Gredge survived his teammates! ...for the first couple of turns). Taking a break.

Graphics are cool! I like the colours, the character portraits & their sprites. And those stairs WERE impressive.

Nice features for a crappy player such as myself - instant recovery after battles, Pedl reviving party after a failed fight, stats are recovered easily, etc.

The "darkness" skills were neat. I like how you were able to add characterization to each party member through their skillset.

I also liked the little easter egg of the characters wondering why they just walked into a nondescript corner of the cave.

The only thing I noticed were the black, animated scribbles at seemingly random places on the floor/wall tiles. I thought maybe they're semi-invisible demons just observing Balbo beat the crap out of the party? I also thought maybe they're supposed to be shadows cast from the torches. I'm not sure. That's pretty much it though, everything else is sound.

Awesome, thank you so much!

The black scribbles were supposed to be smoke, similar to the white steam in the entrance of the cavern. I wanted to give the illusion that the cavern was hot or noxious, but it doesn't seem to have that effect. I'll move them on top of the torches and see if they look better there.

Hope you're enjoying it! Also, if you are interested, here's my strategy for Balbo.

Balbo is physically the strongest character in the game. His physical stat is godlike compared to the other characters. The best thing to do, is to mitigate his attacks. Depression works well, as does Icy Tomb (can completely stop his attacks!), and Slap. The best thing to do is to cut down on his power and hit%, while raising your own evasion. Sleek is very beneficial in this case!

If able, he will strangle a character after a couple rounds. While the player is being strangled, they will take extra damage. However, they're also able to jab at Balbo's eyes to significantly lower his hit%.

Hope this helps!
Well, if you need help with the battles or are just curious to see the ending I did a Let's Play for this game. It's currently in the submission cue, but you can find it on my youtube channel.

Or if you'd rather just get a little helpful advice. Then, I'd suggest abusing Marle's poison skill and Gredge's Icy Tomb. While, Marle's poison skill isn't all that useful on the regular demons you face. It does rather impressive damage against all of the bosses. So much so that it'll probably be your main damage dealer. Gredge's Icy Tomb on the other hand will either entomb an enemy and make them lose a turn or will drastically lower the opposing demon's speed if they have the ability to break through their new found tomb.
Yep, I was using Marle's poison & Gredge's icy tomb. I think I just wasted some turns on ineffective skills, is all. Thanks for the advice, guys!

Regarding the cavern smoke, maybe replace the smoke ejected through the walls/floors with the white steam as well? Returning to the game, the smoke looks fine. Might be cool to add a smoky effect to the torches though, or maybe a halo around the flames or something.

So! I finished the game.
Pedl was a turd! Just as he was meant to be, I think. Gredge was a cool guy. Again I was impressed by the skills reflecting the personality of the possessor - Gredge had the option to pray whilst Pedl's demon belly was munching on him, and Marle had the option to get angry. Nice!

All in all, that was nifty. No errors whatsoever. Cool art & decent selection of music. The ending had a total John Carpenter feel to it, haha.

A gamepage, cool!
Looks cutey, but I probably wrote that before on Kids draw things.
I really admire your productivity, Gredge.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you enjoyed it. It was a lot of fun to make this short project, and I'm pretty happy that people are receiving it well. Glad you liked the difference in characters!

Awe, thank you! I feel I've really hit my stride. The whole "make my own graphics then make a game with them" feels great, and I enjoy delivering these short and sweet experiences for people to enjoy. Thanks again!
Did something break? I can't see the download anymore O.O
