Anatole:
The antagonist of Scenario A & Scenario B, he is also the father of Fred & Shayna. Suffering from earlier stages of mental illness coupled with a broken heart, he spends most of his days in lonesome in his cabin until he meets Crystal. After he meets Crystal, he takes her back to his cabin with good intentions, but eventually subjects Crystal to multiple experiments under the guise of rehabilitating her. These experiments are triggered after Crystal physically attacks him during one of her many attempts to escape captivity.

Personality:
Anatole is a very cruel man with a low tolerance for people who refuse to follow “his rules.” And it could be mentioned that he has very little regard for human life in general as this can be seen when he refers to Crystal as his “pet” on numerous occasions. Anatole is a very religious man who is a firm believer in “the day of reckoning”, and believes that Crystal is living proof that the day of reckoning is upon us, and holds her in captivity as a way of rehabilitating her. This could also be interpreted as Anatole’s belief that God is testing him., and could be a part of the reason why he left her in captivity for so long. He even subjects his own son to the rehabilitation room citing that “the rules must be followed.” His odd behavior has had a negative impact on his family life, and has caused his son to become estranged from him. There are only two instances where we see a merciful side of Anatole. The first being when he unties his son which according to him is against the rules because it would be a violation of his rules (Helping someone undergoing rehabilitation). It could also be said that he did this to prevent his son from escaping (The room he was held hostage in didn’t have any bars around the window). The other instance is when Fred finds him dead in his study room, and reads his “death note.”

Creature/Crystal:
A young teenage girl who is found in the woods not too far from Anatole’s cabin. Her role in Scenario A & Scenario B is somewhat limited as she is mentioned briefly, and seen in a few flashbacks up until the end of the game where Fred or Maria finally get a chance to meet her face-to-face. Not much is known about Crystal such as how she came into existence or what her true motives where before she encountered Anatole. Crystal has several unique abilities such as being able to physically copy another human being, and having the ability to survive a gunshot wound to the head. Anatole was the under the assumption that she was immortal, but this is yet to be confirmed. She has very few weaknesses, and in Scenario C it was shown she had acquired a new power(levitation). Towards the end of Scenario A, Scenario B, and Scenario C we truly get to see how dangerous Crystal is, and how Anatole’s teachings had the opposite effect of rehabilitating, and transformed her into a killing machine.

Personality:
In the beginning of the game Crystal comes off as someone who is helpless, but this is farther from the truth. Crystal is very deceptive, sinister, and will cause harm to anyone who threatens her or her father(Anatole). It could be said that a lot of her behavior manifested after being held in captivity, and subjected to Anatole’s teachings for close to one hundred days. The systematic brainwashing she endured caused her to develop Stockholm syndrome as this was shown when she finds Anatole’s dead body, and breaks down in tears. Referring to him as father even after he tortured her for months. While Anatole doesn’t kill without reason it seems that Crystal plays by her own set of rules (Crystal’s Rules of Discipline).

Dillon:
Dillon is a precocious young boy, and is the son of Jim and Jane Farris. A few months after Scenario A & Scenario B, Dillon’s family decides to adopt a young girl. The young girl is eventually given the name Crystal Farris, and becomes his adopted sister. During this time Dillon would experience hardship, and constant bullying from Crystal. Dillon would complain to his mother about these occurrences, but according to him, his mother wouldn’t believe him. The constant bullying took a toll on Dillon’s psyche which resulted in him going into the kitchen, and finding a knife. Then he proceeded to walk up to Crystal’s room, and stab her repeatedly in her sleep. His mother tried to intervene after hearing screams from upstairs, but she was fatally wounded when she tried to stop Dillon. Unknown to Dillon was that Crystal was not dead, but just merely recovering from her wounds. This would eventually lead to Dillon’s death after he is cornered in his parent’s bedroom, and left to die by Tabatha.

Personality:
Dillon is a very troubled little boy with psychotic tendencies, and exhibits erratic behavior when bullied. This behavior culminated to the point where he physically tried to kill Crystal, and fatally wounded his mother in the process. This erratic behavior is also shown when Tabatha finally finds the bodies of Crystal, and Jane Farris. In one instance, Dillon feels contrite for what he did to this mother, and then in another instance becomes psychotic when Tabatha mentions Crystal. Dillion does have a playful side, and is shown when he decides to play hide-in-seek with Tabatha. This is also a reminder to the player that even though he is psychotic, he is still a young kid.

Fred:
The protagonist of Scenario A & Scenario B, he is also the son of Anatole, and the husband of Maria. Fifteen years ago, Fred was subjected to the same kind of treatment Crystal endured daily while in captivity. It is not known how many times this happened, but it is safe to say that it took place on more than one occasion. Because of his father’s teachings, rough childhood, and no one coming to his aide during his bouts with his father (rehabilitation and punishment), Fred eventually became an atheist, and strayed away from his father’s teachings. This caused a rift between the two men where Fred became estranged from his father, and went nearly fifteen years without any contact with him. One night while attending an old high school reunion, Fred is persuaded into visiting his father’s home to fix a computer issue, but it was all just a scheme conjured up by Anatole to get Fred over to house. This would not only prove fatal for Anatole, but for Fred as well as both men died shortly after seeing each other for the first time in fifteen years.

Personality:
In the later portion of the game we see Fred as someone who is, emotionless, and stoic. This is shown in several instances during the game. Some example would be after he finds his father’s dead body, and after he tries to convince his wife to leave when they find Taylor’s deceased corpse. Depending on the player’s choice in the game, Fred can become extremely selfish, and will leave Maria behind to save his own life. Fred hates his father with a passion, and even enjoyed seeing his father dead body saying that “You got what you deserved.”

Maria:
The protagonist of Scenario A & Scenario B, she is also the wife of Fred, and the sister of Taylor. Maria with her brother accompanies her husband on his visit to her father-in-law’s house after attending a high school reunion. After waiting for an extended period of time, she eventually enters Anatole’s home in search for her husband. Her search becomes thwarted after hearing a scream in the basement(Crystal). This would trigger a host of events such as her brother getting attacked, Anatole locking her in the cabin, to her succumbing to a toxic gas. After waking up she begins to show symptoms of amnesia. These symptoms would linger for a while until the end of the game where she finally learns the truth from either Taylor or Fred. It is not known whether Maria died or is still alive because depending on your choices in the game you can save Maria from uncertain death. Also, it could be mentioned that in the ending where Maria survives, it corresponds with the story line of Scenario C where Crystal ends up being placed in a foster home instead of never being found or located like the other endings.

Personality:
Maria is a kindhearted, selfless, and very compassionate individual who will do anything for her family. A prime example would be during the beginning portion of Scenario B when her brother is attacked, and she rushes to his aid. These characteristic traits are also her downfall, and depending on the choices in the game is part of the reason why she ends up being killed.

Shayna:
The younger sister of Fred, and the daughter of Anatole, Shayna plays a small, but important role in the game. She is married to one of Fred’s high school classmate, Hugo, and decides to attend the high school reunion with him. A few days prior to this event, Anatole reached out to Shayna, and told her he needed her help with fixing a computer. Anatole also told Shayna to convince Fred to accompany her because he wanted to talk to him. Anatole didn’t go into details over the phone, and Shayna suspected it was Anatole’s attempt at asking for forgiveness. “I’ll do what I can”, she told him over phone, and she agreed to help him, but for some unknown reason, she never got around to fixing the issue. While at the reunion, her husband becomes ill from drinking too much punch which was spiked by another classmate, causing her to plead with her brother to visit their dad while she stays behind to tend to her sick husband. Shayna seen this as an excellent opportunity to fix two issues. Her thought process was that she could convince Fred to visit his father, and remedy the computer issue that she never got around to fixing. This would prove fatal as both men ended up dying shortly after.

Personality:
Shayna is a soft-hearted individual who is willing to forgive. It is safe to say that she was subjected to the same treatment Fred endured, but probably not to the same extent. Unlike Fred, she was willing to forgive her father, and has put the past behind her.

Tabatha:
Tabatha is a CPS worker who receives complaints about the status of a Crystal Farris who resides with Jim and Jane Farris. It is not specified what the complaints are, but it is possible that Dillon might have complained to someone at school about how he was being mistreated at home by Crystal which may be the reason behind the visit. Upon her arrival, Tabatha finds a scared boy(Dillon) who was locked into his room by Jane Farris. Tabatha discovers that this was a lie told by Dillon, after discovering the dead bodies of what appears to be Dillon’s twin(Crystal) and his mother (Jane Farris). After agreeing to a game of hide-in-seek with Dillon, Tabatha finally finds Crystal, but the interaction between the two is short-lived as Crystal threatens to kill Tabatha. Tabatha is able to leave the house unscathed, and resigns from her job the following day.

Taylor:
The younger brother of Maria, and Fred’s brother-in-law, Taylor has a small role in the game. After entering Anatole’s home, Anatole attacks Taylor, and Taylor wounds up fatally wounding him, but sustaining a nasty gash to his forehead in the process. After his wounds are tended to by his sister he also succumbs to the toxic gas. After waking up, he spends most his time trying to escape the cabin even going as far as to modify a kitchen knife to unlock the doors in the cabin. When his sister finally awakes, he spends the rest of his time recuperating, and remains in the living room until he eventually meets Crystal on the second floor. Taylor’s fate is one of the sadder endings in the game because Taylor died under the impression that his own sister killed him, when in fact it was Crystal who did it.

Personality:
Taylor is somewhat brash, confident, and playful. He likes to tease his sister on occasion, but deeply cares for her, and would do anything to protect her. This is evident by how he confronts Anatole at the beginning stages of the game. It is not known what kind of relationship he has with Fred, but it seems like the two get along. During the reunion, Taylor mentions to Fred that they should have went to the bar instead which could be an indicator that the two don’t mind each other’s company.
