You are Seiromem, an owl with with a rare gift of the Golden Tongue. This enables you to communicate and negotiate with monsters from all over the island! And you're going to need it: the evil Ravenlord has risen to power, summoning monsters from strange and foreign lands to invade your beautiful habitat!

As the Seiromem, you will battle and recruit monsters, fight through challenging dungeons, and learn powerful monster skills to aid you on your journey to defeat this great threat!

Features
- Battle and collect up to 20 different monsters, all with their own unique skill set!
- Equipment allows you to customize the hero, Seiromem, however you like!
- Elemental combat system! There is no defense stat. Instead, you will have to minimize incoming damage while wiping your enemies out as fast as possible. Some monsters are weak to different things, and it's up to you to swap your monsters around in combat to face different challenges!
- Unique enemies and conversations!
- All original, custom graphics in 8-bit style (3 colors per sprite, though I ain't so faithful with the screen resolution and pixel-per-screen count).
- Game board style layout.

The Object of the Game
The object of the game is to explore the game map while battling monsters. Each time you engage a monster, you are taken to a menu that allows you to talk to it, or engage it in battle. Be careful, you have no idea what allies it has nearby! You'll have to decide whether it's worth spending the resources to bargain with a monster, or if it's better just to hack some enemies to bits and take their experience and loot! The choice is entirely yours! Gather monsters, power up your party, customize Seiromem's combat abilities, and gain the strength to defeat the mighty Ravenlord.

This game was made for Seiromem for the Secret Santa event. As such, it starts the great owl hero himself, Seiromem! I hope you enjoy playing this game as much as I enjoyed making it.

Recruitable Monsters! - A first look.

Owl Quest will release with 20 monsters available that you can fight and recruit to your party!

Monsters will all begin at level 1 once they join you, though they will level up at a fast pace. Some monsters are more powerful than others, and are more difficult to obtain. Here's a first glimpse at some of the earliest monsters available in the game! (A 1 pixel outline has been added to each sprite for the posting of this article, as there will not actually be a black outline in the game.)

Name: Bandit Viper
Type: Snake
Primary Element: Piercing
Description: Why is this snake a bandit? What drove him to a life of banditry? And more importantly, why is it carrying a knife in its mouth!?

Name: Wood Sprite
Type: Fairy
Primarily Element: Light
Description: Your first monster, who provides decent healing. She'll be very helpful in your party until you're able to afford to capture a better monster. It is said that the wood sprites sing an alluring song from the woods, luring children to them so that they may be sacrificed to their ruler.

Name: Tea Kitten
Type: Spirit Beast
Primary Element: Fire
Description: A flaming tea kitten? But why is the kitten in a tea cup? And why is it on fire? No one is quite sure, but it's here now.

Name: Ghost Knight
Type: Giant
Primary Element: Blunt
Description: It is said that the Ghost Knight is the spirit of one who has died in battle and lived on to get revenge. Or perhaps it doesn't seek revenge, but simply enjoys fighting so much, that it prefers to fight, even beyond death. That's pretty metal.

Name: Angel
Type: Spirit
Primary Element: Light
Description: Haha it's just a harmless angel, right? How dangerous could she be!?

Art style: Sticking to the early 8-bit formula, each sprite has 4 colors. 3, technically, if you consider that the 4th color is intended to be transparent. I stuck pretty honestly to this throughout all of the monsters (with exception to the snake up there, since I intended him to have a white transparent color).
All of the 8-bit system's sprites had 4(3) colors, but eventually what happened is, the developers began to layer the sprites, essentially increasing the color count of a sprite to a whopping 8(6) whole colors! Of course, they still had the whole "14 colors on the screen at once" limitation, but hey, I'm not being too fickle here.
The art is meant to resemble early 8-bit monster sprites. You'd be surprised at how difficult it can be to make enemies out of 3 colors!

Monster Skills: Each monster will have four skills in their skill pool. They are, innately, more powerful than the hero Seiromem. At the same time, their skills are limited. A typical enemy will have a selection of these four skills: a damage of their particular element, a buff, a debuff, and a passive. Seiromem, however, can learn all of a monster's skills, making him effectively more powerful than any other monster by the end of the game.

The typing of the name Seiromem is perhaps the most difficult part of this project for me. I'm sure I'll have to make several passes through the text when I get to the final testing stage.

I hope you enjoy it when it comes out, and let me know what you think!

If he's in first position of the Hero roster, that will just automatically put the name in there. Replace the 1 with the number of the character in the hero roster. You can even have a dummy hero just for the sake of making names easier to input in messages.

After playing some of Dragon Quest 8, the monster recruitment mechanic reminded me of this game. It also made me realize that I LOVE monster recruitment mechanics (hello, Pokémon!)

So even is this turns out good or bad, this'll be a great present that I am losing my ability to wait for, and also is a challenge to me to have my next Secret Santa gift be just as amazing.

Thanks so much!
Sorry it's taking so long, I've got a whole lot going on right now. But I'm still looking at getting it out real soon!

it's all right Gredge109, dont worry about how long it's taking, just make sure you get it done right, i REALLY do not want to give this game a bad review, as i LOVE Monster Raising gameplay, whether it's Digimon, Pokemon, Monster Rancher, etc.
