Life isn't all that exciting in quiet Border Town for our hero, who spends most days hanging out with his best friend Benjamin. Long expected to take over the mundane life of tending the family inn, our hero wistfully craves a life of adventure. An even bigger burn: Some prophet visited Border Town a long time ago, and foretold that Benjamin would grow into the legendary hero. Talk about living under someone's shadow!

And live under a "Shadow" they did: For stories have increased in recent days of a great dragon of the same name, Shadow, rising up and amassing an empire to take over the land. Monsters have increased in number and strength, and some cities have fallen. It is clear that something isn't quite right.

Back in Border Town, things are peaceful... for now. However, on the eve of the dubious ceremony celebrating our hero's new job, Benjamin goes missing. When the would-be-innkeeper goes to search for him, he gets wrapped up in all the adventure he could have ever dreamed of, as his little journey takes him on a vast quest across the world, to Shadow's doorstep, and beyond.

It is time for the unlikely innkeeper -- and you -- to Begin a New Quest.

This game features a fully new world and new characters but inspired by the Dragon Warrior series for the NES. On the quest, many familiar monsters, spells, equipment, graphics, and music will be encountered -- mixed in with some new creations of my own in all of these departments. The game features:

-30-40 hours of gameplay.
-Some original music and graphics along with many old favourites.
-A huge bestiary of over 300 monsters, each with a Monster Entry for the library at Elderwood hidden somewhere in the game.
-A carefully-balanced mix of open-world exploration and focused linearity.
-Various sidequests including the monster library, the alchemy pot, the lottery, optional dungeons, and more.
-Fully functioning features that any Dragon Warrior fan would expect, including the "Imperial Scrolls of Honour," losing half gold/keeping items and levels upon defeat in battle; individual items carried in battle; Houses of Healing; Outside, Return, Chance, Sacrifice, and Farewell spells; Battle Mechanics that have been carefully tinkered with to strongly feel balanced in the same way that Dragon Warrior games originally were.
-A branching story with multiple endings and substantial postgame material, including bonus characters and a challenge boss.
-A packed-in world map. :)

Just install the "test.exe", open the new file and then you will find your missing game.exe. :)

Question:
How do I proceed after visiting Anville?
The forest to the east and the temple in the poisonous swamp are blocked.
I talked to everyone and have the flute and silver key.

And please: Can you make the flashes when using magic darker?
They are so blinding...
Hi Firefly!

Thanks for downloading my game, I really appreciate it. Take the flute back to Velmont and show the wizard in the library, and that will trigger your path forward (and what happens next will probably make many of the monsters a bit more trivial in the next region).

Best of luck. :)
Thanks. The key was not to equip the flute...
Where is the flute? I have been through everything 6 times and can't find it.
please help.
Check out the fairies' oasis in the desert southwest of Border Town, for a trip through your first real dungeon. Good luck!
I can't find Brindar in Iona. But I have found the key for the lab.

2-3 Bugs I have found so far:
  • You can't use the wizard's wand as an item (fireball spell), tried it.
  • After the victory against the mad witch, one of the dwarves told me that Hammer is on the move again but is still at home. He leaves after talking to the kings.
  • The warp point in the east tower where you found the golden barret can only be activated after a fight. I thought I was stuck there.
I cleared out the faries oasis and .So now what??

Use the tip Wonderslime gave me above. And don't equip the flute.
Nice, thanks Firefly.

Any weapon or armour abilities will appear in your "Special" menu available for you to use at will. :) I'll look into the Hammy thing.

There is a fairly rare possibility that on particular teleport squares, if you would happen to get into a battle ON that square, strange/unintended effects may happen until your next battle. You will always know if this happens because you'll hear the "text beeps" in the battle text, and you may have to do two battles in a row, strangely. This is a known thing that I've been able to reduce in editions, and I'm continuing to work on.

I hope that it's been enjoyable regardless of the things you've found, and I appreciate you letting me know! You're making some great progress. :)

No, the teleporter activates after I had a battle somewhere, not on the square. It won't work until this battle. This is the only teleport that happens so far...

And I still can't find Brindar or a way in the alchemy lab of Iona. I only found the key.

I will try again to go to the dragon's lair - perhaps he is there.
Ain't got no flute. forgotten the tip. I cleared out that section 3 days ago. done forgotten all that he said. That's what I looking for is the flute.
Have you helped the faires at the oasis and defeated the boss there?
Then the Queen of the Faires has given you the flute.
Don't equip it and go to Velmont castle. There is a blue wizard/scholar. Speak with him. You got a new party member.
Then travel south then east, than north to the stairs and find your way to Anville.
Yes Boss dead. NO FLUTE!! The only party member I have is Ramona. I have 2 tiny medals & the silver key. I'm in Anville now.
I'm on level 10 with $5,000 gold NO FLUTE yet..
fharden: Sorry, I'm not sure what could be missing! If you cleared out the cave, you do receive the Fairy Flute and there is no way around it (and I don't believe there is a way to drop it, either, as it is a priceless item...). So, I'm not sure what the matter could be, unless there is some miscommunication - just in case, the boss is one Zombie and two Night Wisps, and a scene afterward must occur, which has a fairy approach you and gives you the flute.

I've never had anyone with issues with this before - so otherwise, I don't have any other help for you!

Firefly: On the east side of the town, there is a ruined weapon shop. Search behind the counter in the top-most accessible square, and you will find a keyhole that will reveal some secret stairs. And, I'm sure that the issue you described is related - if this "sort" of thing happens again, it will remedy itself after another battle.

Please explain how you install the test.exe file. I've extracted all the files and I come up with the same 4 files. When I click on the text.exe file again nothing happens.
Yeah - I'm not sure if this is the issue, but the first time that you run the game, it can take nearly a minute for the game to load. I'm not sure why this is, but it is only ever the first time that you run it, and on your next plays, it will only take a few seconds.

If this isn't what you're talking about, I'm not sure - the files are the files, and my testing team never had a problem with getting things installed and opened. Thanks for your patience!
Here's what I've done. I open the downloaded zip file and there are 4 files in there including the test.exe file.
I double click on that file and it says to extract the 4 files. I extract the 4 files and it then gives me the same 4 files. When I click on the test.exe file, the only exe file in there, it looks like it is going to open but then it just stops. I've waited for over a minute but nothing happens. Hopefully this explains what is happening..

That's strange.
Have you downloaded the file with the downloading tab on the right or by clicking on the listed files? Use the first option.
The Test.exe has a blue hexagon which describes an auto-extracting file. You just have to install it. Then a new folder will appear which has the full extracted game with the game.exe.
