This little piece will...GLOW on you. (I'll show myself out...)

Name: Glow

Developer: sabao

Story: You are a Medusozoan (jellyfish) in space (apparently), following a master, helping you to flee a giant attacker, the ultimate goal being for you to finally become the master and follow in its...tentacle swipes (sorry, best I could do).

Writing: No text. An expressive story is told through images and actions of on screen characters. Very beautifully presented.

With friends like these, who needs anemones?

Gameplay: This is a platformer. You're able to walk from side to side, jump and use a grappling gun. You do not have an attack. Follow your master through each level until you reach the end. Use your grappling gun to latch onto star fragments and guide you to otherwise unreachable places. This can sometimes get a bit frustrating. My only complaint here is that when you fire your grappling gun, the camera follows the hook, and the hook stays centered with the camera, so this can actually cause you to miss your target and it becomes especially challenging when you have multiple star fragments to hit. Also, when you miss a star fragment, the grapple will come all the way back, forcing you to start a chain all over again. The game is unexpectedly short. After the first level, it's difficult to tell how many levels there are because they seem to blend together because of how the cutscenes are presented. I'm going to say the game has a total of three levels.

Every good game has a hook. Sorry, I'm just full of these terrible puns, today.

Graphics: Various shades of yellow, white, and blue (and I guess somewhat green, but that counts to both yellow and blue...more to yellow). The characters have a very delicate appearance. The attacking mollusk looks quite threatening. Everything just has a lovely look to it and the animations only add to that delicate sense. Of course, looks can be quite deceiving.

Music: I must have missed it in the credits, but I have no idea where the music came from, but it does fit the game very nicely, giving the game a distinct nautical feel, with the music for the mollusk being very menacing. By the way, it never caught me, so I don't know how the game over happens if you do get caught.

Follow the leader.

Conclusion: Absolutely worth your time, and a beautiful little game. It has a satisfying story and ending. I just wish there was more to it. Also, I'm really lucking out here. I've been reviewing a number of worthwhile games here. Please, give this game a look. You won't be sorry.

I played a somewhat earlier version that had a number of bugs, so I held off making a review back then. Nevertheless, I would wholly concur with the conclusion.
Thanks so much for the review. As rushed as this was, we're plenty proud of this one.

Man, I am really sorry about not getting the fixes done. I honestly don't like using Stencyl anymore, and I don't really remember what does what in our code anymore.

I rung up the guy that did most of the code for help, and he's proposed to just rebuild the game on another engine entirely. We actually meant to do this years ago; the current build you see was built in around a month or so, which is why the characters are uncoloured and as sketchy as they are. We really, really want to make a better build of this. We've only just started coordinating on it though, so nothing's concrete yet. We'll get back to you all when something takes shape. If not, well, we'll try fixing this one as well.

How did I not run into any glitches???

Quite a bit of luck, I wager. We kind of let some of the problems go because overall the game kind of sort of functional and we had a deadline to meet. This build was presented with people from the team on the floor as well so we kind of just walked them through it as best as we could.

Granted, that isn't going to fly in this case. Still! We're always glad to hear people are trying our game out. Thank you!
