About the Game:
-Utilizes Graphics/Music from GBC Dragonquest Games

-Includes many of the elements found in Dragon Quest/Warrior GBC games (Casinos,Warpwings(animated),Death Processing, Chapel/King saves, GBC style fonts and menus, and maybe even monster recruiting!)
-A big Thanks to Jamirus834, wherever you are! His opensource helped me greatly. He's credited for the DQ style menu/battlemenu along with many other DQish elements.
-A branching story with an open world and events.
-The DQ in the title will mean Dragon's Quake for now

If you'd like to help with the game shoot me a PM! This includes monsters, music, or story elements you'd like to see happen in the game! A True Demo will be added by the end of the month! I'll attach a very early alpha demo for those who wish to play a short quest!

Demo Patch 1.42 (Monster Manual Fix)

This patch adds and fixes the following

Fixes
- Monster manual glitch, it adds a Eraser Item that resets the monster manual. You can now use this to continue with Newer Patches. You must use the item before going into a battle If the monster is new or a name was changed.

This is added to your party upon entering the overworld. (check key items after leaving the town/castle)
There will be books scattered in the Demo that permanently adds monsters to the book so the reset will only reset how many you have beat once you read them.

The book that adds all monsters in the demo is found in the Bazaar. Check the bookshelves.

-Quickwiz can now slow you down also. Using a warpwing or casting return won't reset the effect anymore.

-The Duel Battles (Tangtl Castle) and Wildslime battles should not freeze up anymore.

-Previous saves (1.3 and up) can now be used, You need to use the Erase Item once you leave the castle/town.

Changes
The Escape rate has been tweaked. Each failed attempt will add 20% success on the next escape attempt during the battle.

So did I, which is why I'm doing this. It was saddening that none of the older handhelds(GBC/GBA) got their own DragonQuest games.(Non monsters series of course)
Oh wow, this looks AMAZING! I can't wait to see what comes of this.

Thanks be sure to try out the demo!
Nice to see this project over here too! And congratulations on your demo - I'm excited to play it! :3
I am in for at most 20 minutes now and think you didn't test this...

Poison on the first few enemies and that expensive to cure? A no go.
Enemies that powerful at the beginning and in such numbers? A no go.

Also running doesn't work or at least I was very unlucky the nine times I tried.

Maybe one or two levels after growing up would help there but... it's annoying and makes for a very bad first impression.

I died about 6 times the first few damn minutes just trying to SURVIVE the first few encounters. (Not the well the outside grinding ain't fun this way) It's no fun. Maybe fewer enemies when you don't have partners at the beginning would be nice? Honestly hard and unfair are two different words. Please don't confuse them...

Who is this Zara person by the way?

Anyways I will be back after grinding and death thousand or so and tell you how the game was after meeting party members.

*Sorry if I sound a bit annoyed but I was when I wrote this... xD

**I have had enough. This game is a chore and no fun.

Some drawers/pots without text:

(the two infront of my character)

There are two posters that mention the overpowered freak named gintz, one states he is worth 1750g the other says 3000gold... who is right? Is that a hint at his special? If you defeat him like that or like that, or a simple oversight?

One is here the other inside the prison next to the only one jailed inside.

Spells don't scale with INT.... why even adding INT if you don't scale it with that? DQIX Sentinel of the starry skies did that right.

Normal encounters are overpowered. The sleep and poison hit almost every single time.... like a 90% chance. I haven't had a single encounter with the green monstrosities that didn't leave me poisoned (discounting it when I grinded to level 11 on beginner mobs just to have a damn chance to stay alive later on.)

Something I noticed from a character:

What did I know? There is some text missing.

It would help if "Riara" could use stronger armor in my try against Gintz he just oneshotted her perfectly equibbed with almost as much HP as my main char. Well "oneshot" he just had two turns and after transforming he needed two turns to kill me. 18 damage x2 is OP.

Running could use a chance up to. I run in about 1/10 tries. Hurray to skipping fights... NOT.

Apart from that..... the casino certainly is funny and can possible net you some gold if you save scum enough. *cough* *cough*

All I can say is... it needs a lot of polishing and maybe alternate "difficulty" because the current difficulty is borderline unfair. Very unfair. And annoying. Very annoying. I haven't had a single game apart from this so far where i had to fight this much against quitting it alltogether. Nevermind I did quit. Enough is freaking enough.

Scrub! Kidding but seriously...

-You can get up to 400 gold at the start of the game visit the king...
-If you looked around the village you'd have found free armor.
-The soldier suggest you train in the well before leaving the village.
-There's a follower in the first Village to help you reach the warp shrine. (after speaking with the king)
-Riara gets buffing spell (Upper and Increase) She can tank most attacks from enemies after casting that twice. She also has a higher evasion rate.
-The Hero can equip a Boomerang (hits all enemies)

I'm starting to think you're not familiar with dragon quest games.
Antidotes cure poison, equipping armor increases defense. The chapel has a Detox feature, your mother is a free Inn.

I only played the "newer" ones. DQIX sentinels of the starry skies, the 3ds remakes of old ones (DQ VIII journey of the cursed king and DQ VII Fragments of the forgotten past), DQ VI realms of revelation i am mediocore experienced at best sorry. + Dragon Quest Legacy of the Lost fangame (well I am still at it the majusties spamming boss is annoying)

I found the armor at night. And even the tiny medal from the soldier. I just died. A lot. Antidotes cure it, yes. But I had to grind to level 5-6 (without any gold to spare as I lose enough once I die) before I could even survive the 3-5 monster encounters at the beginning some 1-3 monsters would be nice and i did get the armor from the drawers at the beginning but anteaters still did at least 2 damage couple that with the low HP one had.... also I couldn't oneshot them meaning... I died. A lot.
Later on I had to fight against those things with sleep and healers that accompany the roguenites which was... annoying even with the wooden boomerang.

I didn't go to the king with 400 to spare though I spent all of it on antidotes and herbs. (They don't really drop much from your enemies.)

.... oh i forgot to talk with my mother how could I. The 3 gold at the inn were worth spending now and than tough... ;)

I am also a bit sorry about how I am.... but your game really, really annoyed me while I played it.
It just comes off pretty negative and you seemed like you tried rushing through the game with little exploration.

I'm replaying it and haven't been poisoned once. It maybe that you are unlucky?

-By level 4 you get a healing spell. You can also get a much better weapon at the start if you won the prologue battle. (the Three pixies)
-You also get a Sleep spell that's pretty effective on most of the enemies. Level 5
-The Solidier sword is also available at the start. The equipment at the starting village is enough to turn the anteaters attacks to 1 damage.

The Ozwarg enemies have a weak version of ice bolt (they only can cast it once). It can be tough to deal with but you can equip a DScale that reduces this damage.
Okay! So I've played through the first 45 minutes or so of this game, and I'm liking what I see so far. This is probably one of the most accurate Dragon Quest fangames I've played to date, and it absolutely looks, feels, and plays like a GBC-era Dragon Quest game. In a lot of ways, it doesn't even feel like it was done in RPG Maker.

Here's a few things to look at.

1. The game needs a thorough spellcheck. There are numerous spelling and grammatical errors, and even some enemies had their names spelled incorrectly. For instance, an NPC mentions a monster named "GoHopper" but the monster's name is "GoHoper" and I assume the former is correct.

2. The game's name comes up as "Dragon Quest VX Ace!" and it's called such on the title screen.

3. This locked treasure chest has no Direction Fix:

4. The balance in the beginning is a little wonky. Despite the guard encouraging me to grind in the well to level up, I later found that the king gives me enough gold to buy a suit of chainmail, and buying it boosted my defense so high that it trivialized most of the battles up until the second castle. Also, giving the hero Blaze seems pointless.

Overall though, I'm really impressed as how close this feels to an official Dragon Quest game. This has so much potential and I'm excited to finish the demo and see more.

Thanks I did put a lot of work into this. There will be a lot of minor mistakes since I've been working alone and my grammar is well questionable...

Good thing is it's only a demo not the final release. I'll be sure to fix those bugs. I forgot about the name change... I plan on doing a custom title screen soonish maybe even a game startup opening scene.
Bug: Missmanagement of Antidotes:
You use 2 Antidotes each time. (You need at last one). And I was wondering where the second one was disappearing. So you actually need 40 Gold to heal from Poison in field. Detoxify costs 30 Gold.
I need to check if that missmanagement occures for Herbs, too.

Bug: Softkill when looking at the worldmap in Tangl castle.

I think I know why that bug occurs. I'll work on that thanks.

Antidotes are pretty obsolete once you get clear Rock Pass in this demo. The Inverzons(zomibe enemy) may occasionally use a poison gas attack. (Everytime i've played it never did)

Babbles only appear in a small portion of west Tangtl, in East Tangtl and Loran continent (the starting one).
Bug: Softkill when looking at the worldmap in Tangl castle.
Another Softkill/Freeze when entering Jand at night for the first time.

The Antidote issue solves itself when Riara joins the party.
Can you do something about exiting the menu when using any heal/cure (Cast/Item)? It breaks the flow.

Hmm I'm not sure about the Jand Freeze. It may just be a lag and the game killed itself?
Hold the A button to exit the map in Tangtl castle.(or whatever button you have button 1 set to)

In Jand I think it is caused by Riara's comment. After I have entered Jand once on day, I can enter Jand at night, too.

Worldmap: I tried the whole keyboard. The setting is default.

Edit: Where can I find a Twig?

Hmm just tried it out again and it works for my keyboard. Did you hold A it down? not like press it once you have to hold the button for a little.

Press and hold A and it should go away

Edit:
I figured out the why the game froze When you enter at night!

edit2:
A twig can be found in the well in Tangtl, talk to the npcs there
Problem:
I healed and saved before choosing a root and now they are gone.
