The Inn is a short RPG game with elements of mystery and fantasy. The story follows an adventurer traveling across a country and looking for (what else would an adventurer look for?) adventures, when she comes across an inn deep within the forest and decides to rest there. But not everything is as it seems, as the inn hides a dark and sinister secret that might cost our character her life.

Have interesting conversations with NPC-s, uncover an ancient mystery, interact with (almost) everything and fight a colourful (pun intended*) cast of enemies. Hopefully chuckle at a joke and maybe even be surprised by a twist of events. What more could you ask for? You know you want to give this game a try.

*What pun, you wonder? Play and you will find out.

WIKI ?????

long time no see, lovely people!

i was looking for something completely random and accidentally found out that the inn has an entry on the rpg maker wiki and i am absolutely s h o o k e t h. my tiny game, made while i was learning to use rpg maker... it has a wiki article. i have no words to describe how that feels. whoever added it, i love you

in addition, the game has over 1350 downloads at the moment. might not be much to some, but it is amazing to me, especially considering i have not really updated it or done anything else about it in years. and yet, every time i take a look, the number goes up for at least a little. it is a beautiful feeling, i gotta say

in conclusion, thank you, all of you, who in any way interacted with the game. i don't know what else to say as i am still kinda speechless

Sounds like we got many things common in life stuff :~D I'm glad to hear it! I'll be waiting for your next update/patch.

knowing me, i will start another game... please don't kill me if i do that xD i definitely wanna add at least a few cutscenes to the inn, so i promise i am not done with it, though. and i know myself, once i get back into into it, i will just have more and more ideas of what to improve xD the problem is, as i probably mentioned already, that i am a terrible procrastinator... and i either focus on something 24/7, or i leave it for ages untouched. i was never good at balancing things xD

Hey there! I just finished your game today, and I wanted to share some feedback with you. The game was pretty fun, especially considering this is your first game.I really liked the dialogue and interactions with the objects (wich i believe was one of your goals for this game.) The next bit contains spoilers, so beware.
so once you get down to the basement level, things kind of start getting a little less good. I quickly realised you didnt have to fight the demons. I died the first time fighting the demon lord, and thougt i might have to beat a few of his minions for xp (this might have been a bit more fun.) When i realised there was no XP, i fought the demon lord again, realising how to do it. The fight was a little short to my taste, and i feel like you could have given him some dialogue inbetween his actions.
I found the ending a little unsatisfying. Ill continue with a few suggestions (theyre probably not that good) on how you could improve it. You could make it so you can go upstairs again, and collect the magic book, and get the wizards together to find a spell to save the lives of the people in the tavern (this could be an alternate ending), and perhaps even make it so you can resurrect the adventurers. You could also add a cutscene of the tavern fading out of existance when you leave it, making it feel more complete than "game over". You could also make this game longer, expanding on those roads you have ending the game. You could even make it so you could perhaps join in with some of the people in the inn, wich would be fun.
thanks for giving me a fun game to play on a sunday evening, and keep on making games and improving your skills. I had a lot of fun playing.

thank /you/ for playing my little game and enjoying it. reviews like yours mean the world to me ^_^

as for the dialogues and interactions, you are very correct, that was pretty much the main goal :3

as for the spoiler-y bits, let's say it this way. anything that is missing, or could have been added, or could have been better, is not there because i did not know how do do it xD but i am learning now! and i am definitely planning on improving the game even more.

as for your suggestions, they are legit, don't worry :D

and as for the fighting, i both didn't know at all how to make it, and i also wasn't really focused on it. if i had thought of a way to completely skip it, i would have done it xD this game was not about fighting, honestly the fighting part was mostly a device to move the plot further ^^

Oh my! That's a big compliment! Thank you so much ^.^ I'd love to hear your feedback as well! I hope you enjoy it.

I still have lot to do with that game even after finishing the story years ago. I always feel like expanding it just like your game. Hundreds of them may sound quite a lot but as your game gets bigger you're gonna need them a lot (most switches are very useful for cutscenes! I gave a tip for you!) :~D

i am a terrible procrastinator, but when i finish the game, i promise a review :D

and thank youuu xD

Ooops, I forgot to write here... I'm a dummy! Played your last version just a week ago, I gotta say everything looks much better now. Especially a switch freak person like me is very satisfied! (I used hundreds of hundreds of them on Shattered Hourglass) Looking forward to your upcoming versions.

thank you so so much ^__^ i checked to be 100% sure and, just as i thought, shattered hourglass is on my list of games i tried and i am planning on continuing :D i remember it a bit when i tried it (the thing with me is i keep downloading 10+ games at once and try them all, so my list of games to play is much longer than my list of games i actually played xD), it seemed fun (which is also a reason why is it on that playlist and not on the one that has games i tried and decided not to play). my point is, if the game is even half as nice as you are (and i am sure it is), i'm gonna enjoy it a lot :3 (and wow... o__o hundreds and hundreds of switches sounds... just wow)

That's amazing to hear! Somehow game's size doubled :~D

oh my God, i think that's because when making the deployment file, i forgot to use this one program that deletes everything not used in the game from the game folder xD thanks! you keep helping me :D

Oh snap! So... there is a health potion... I never checked for it, my bad! I knew that feeling, when I first downloaded VX ACE even making a moving NPC was a miracle. I'm not very familiar with the new engine but I can help you with. You definately did some switches when talking to same NPC twice.

Example idea: Make that book closed until you talk to daughters (when touching the book, your character might say "It's just an ordinary book" or something like that), after talking to them activate a switch called (001: Book). This will allow you to examine the book afterwards (opens the book and curse activates), it make sense in progression.

yooo i just wanna say i learned some basic switches today and changed two things, so now you have to interact with at least two people to progress, and the game makes much more sense now xD thank you for motivating me and writing that example, i really thought it was much more complicated than that. but after reading what you wrote, i youtubed it and it was actually really simple. so really, thank you :D

and i updated the game (hope i didn't mess anything up else though xD)

Hello gothicmiriel,

On my first playthough or to say... "try" I've talked to everyone also interacted with everything, I liked those parts a lot, lots of details in it but only giving a single mana potion to a player is a bit cruel, maybe also giving a health potion could help. Well, you can guess I've died to that demon lol

Actually my real issue is not the difficulty, it's about lack of using "Switches". It creates a big flaw. On my next playthough I've just rushed to the boss without interacting anything and guess what, my main character magically knows everything about touching the book or the curse without even talking to anyone.

I know you can easily fix those issues since you like to create lots of dialogues. Good luck on your project. :')

thank you for a nice review ^-^

there is a health potion in that same cupboard, but in the other version of the inn xD mana potion is in one version, the health potion in the other one

the thing is, when i made the game, i literally knew nothing about rpg maker (mv or any other one). i downloaded a program, played with maps a bit, and had an idea for a story. and that was it. as i was making the game, i was learning how to use the program. so i didn't know how to use switches (and i kinda still don't, other things got in the way of my game making a bit after i finished the inn). i did use one switch, true that, but only because i was following googled instructions word by word. so yeah... that is why that happened xD

and i am so glad you liked interacting and talking ^__^ i really wanted to make it as detailed and interactive as possible :3

Short game with suspense but I expected it. I've personally seen this sort of plot before so it didnt surprise me or anything. Although I died the first time because there didn't seem be be a way to heal yourself, and you have to rush to the boss and ignore the random encounters. Simple and interesting story-based game.

thanks ^^

and sorry you died u_u #rip

Gave it a shot. Very short and nice. Interacting with literally everything was fun. In a full length game, I'd hope for more treasure and stuff to be in random stuff but I like it!

i have been feeling kinda bad today and this comment really cheered me up! thank you so much, i am very happy you liked it ^__^ and yes, in a full length game, there would definitely be more stuff to find and take and stuff that would affect game progress and storyline in some way :3
