Simple, but pretty decent

The Orb Quest is an indie game made for RPG Maker VX Ace. The game is still in development and I played the game on May 22, 2017 (For if there are any changes in the future.)

You play as a girl named Alice. You come upon a man being attacked by bats. You save him, have your rod stolen, and are told the only way to save the kingdom is to collect all the orbs. So you go to the world map, which is laid out similar to a level selection screen. You go over a level and press enter to start it.

Paying to save is a more annoying mechanic.

Each level is presented as a small maze. You need to go around it and collect orbs. When you collect all the orbs a portal will open and you can walk over it to end the level. You'll need to contend with a time limit and various monsters. There was actually a nice variety in how different enemies functioned pretty early in the game. Some enemies just walk around, but there's vines that just sit still, and there are flowers that turn to stone for a short period of time. You can create some sort of magical kick thing to attack enemies, but this is where the game's functionality falls a little short.

Kicking this thing is not as easy as it looks.

To get your kicking thing to actually work. You need to stop moving completely. Make sure you're good and stopped. Now you can press Enter to create the magical object (Not easy to figure out at first.) Another problem with this object is that the player stops when the thing is kicked, but the enemies don't. So when the object to being kicked you can be killed. If you create the object too close to the enemies they can walk through it. And there's no button command to make the thing go away (It will disappear after a couple seconds if you don't kick it, but that's time you could be using creating more of them.)

This puzzle is very challenging.

There are things that break up the normal levels. There's a guy in a tent you can play games with, a couple cut scenes, and some different kinds of puzzles. The screen shot up above is a very challenging puzzle and is a very welcome break from the normal game play. This game is actually pretty enjoyable to play for short bursts of time. (And I'm sure there's some way to fix the way that annoying kick thing functions.) I'm going to leave this review with no score and hope the developer can continue working on this project in the future.

Hello Kory_toombs. Thanks for having played and analyzed the demo of my game. I hope that by playing the full version (I see the images you're already playing) you can complement the analysis. Thank you again.
