One stage?

Luna and the Stars is an indie game created with Unity. Luna and the Stars is a very simple and short game (it could probably take you about 5-10 minutes to complete the stage, depending how good you are.)

The premise is that an evil person named Soleil has stolen the stars. You play as a girl named Luna. Your job is to get the stars back. How are you going to do that, you ask. Well you're going to dodge fireballs and lightning while you collect stars.

This one image is the whole game.

Refer to the image as I explain how this game works. Luna is at the bottom. She can move left and right. If a fireball or a lightning hits you, you lose health (On the left side of the screen.) If your HP is 0 it's game over (or you get a short scene and just start again.) The game will also be over if the timer at the top goes to 0. On the right side of your screen is you "star power." Stars will fall down and you need to collect them. You need to collect at least 5, but it's also possible to collect more and save them up. Once you have 5 stars you can press the space bar to shoot up some water to hit Soleil. If you reduce her HP to 0 you win the game (or you get a scene and just start again... what?)

And that's all there is to the game. There just a short dialogue scene to set this up followed either by a game over dialogue or a victory dialogue. (Did I mention that the battle starts again even after winning?)

The game is created using custom graphics. These are pretty well done. Due to this I found the dialogue scenes, as short as they were, more interesting than the actual game. There's some simple background music with some well done sound effects for when you get hit or collect stars. But other than some pretty graphics the game doesn't deliver you much to do. I give this game a 2 / 5.

Hey thanks for taking the time to play and write a review! I'm glad you liked the art and that the sound design fit well.

My only concern is I really hope that you didn't feel duped out of the amount of content? I was hoping the description made it clear that this game is really short and simple and to not expect too much out of it?

I understand the rating based on the lack of content- its a VERY small game. LATS was used more as a test run for Unity and more complex pixel art than what I had been previously created so I wasn't going for anything too complex here. (It's also unlikely that I'll ever go back and expand it.) However I though I had made it clear from the start that this game was a short game so it seems a bit redundant to dock so many points off the score for getting exactly what it says on the tin. I would have preferred if points had been docked for something like feeling Luna's walking speed was too slow or that the rate at which the fireballs fell was too fast.

I worry that you (and others) went in expecting a little more and I'd like to do whatever I can to change that expectation so players don't feel too let down.

I hope that makes sense and doesn't sound like I'm trying to argue with you or anything!

I have given other short games higher scores. This wasn't the only issue I had with it. The game play was very simplistic and didn't offer much of a challenge.
