Calling all testers!

I have just uploaded a demo of this game, with all story sequences included. However, I'm not 100% confident of passing this out to the general public. That's where you come in! I want to know if I need to squash any bugs, if something feels unfair, or other interesting tidbits, whether they be positive or negative.

Write a comment here, send a PM, or message me on Discord if you are interested!

Within the hide-tag are the available Stars of Destiny, and the approximate order they can be recruited in.

Weeeeelp, I guess I decided to make the download public anyway. This is not to say that I'm not looking for feedback anymore. However, I want to see if I can't add some kind of "Fate of the 108" before the credits (such as they are) roll before I feel comfortable calling this "complete".

That update will probably be after Theme Roulette 2019 resolves, for those curious about this little ditty.

*Edit: I... think that means this game eligible for this year's Wisao Misao nominations? Not that I think this will win anything either way.
Hi, Marrend
I just downloaded your game and it is in Edit and Play mode.

Tried to send a screenshot but locker not working yet, or still.

So, I took a look at your locker, and found...

...this. This just means you opened the project file in the editor, rather than run the EXE file.

You might already know this, but, for the sake of reference, you can run a test-play in the editor either by pressing F12, or by the "Playtest" button that's at the right end of the toolbar.
So sorry, Marrend, Games are usually exported as play only. I thought the game icon looked strange(2 gears) ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thanks for another lesson.:$
Interesting game. Wondered if you knew that every time you talk to the Innkeeper/Party Changer, the credits roll?

I think I noticed the innkeeper on "Alpha Island" doing that with my recent tests of the "Fates of the 108" scene. Which has been fixed. Not that it should matter. Players should never be able to get there, ever.

Unless I was doing tests on that map earlier (hence the name of the map), and I failed to change the player starting position? I suppose that's possible.

*Edit: ...Which, apparently, is exactly what happened here. Welp. That's no good. Uploading a fix as I write. ;_;
Hi, Marrend. The game plays much better, now. And..it's fullscreen!:)

In Sraphyhl Mtn, the white floor looks continuously above the brown floor. Yet, you can walk from one to the other. The shadows give it that impression, imo.
Pic is in my locker.

In a sense, you are correct. There is supposed to be a height differential between the "white" floor and the "brown" floor. The screencap that you took...

...is at a slope. Players can move from one level to another at that tile, and the two tiles to the right of that one. Movement between the two "levels" should not be possible anywhere else.

I suppose I can understand the confusion, though, with how the shadows are set up. This kind of thing appears a lot in this game, though. Any suggestions as to what I can do to make it more readable as a "slope"? Maybe remove the shadow three tiles left and one tile down from the player position in that screen-cap?

*Edit: Wait, I don't recall setting this up to be fullscreen? Not gonna worry about it right now.
There doesn't seem to any graphics for ramps, etc.going in an upward direction. The part of the floor you step down from is a section that has shadowing. When I was on the test island, the screen was small. When I started the proper game, it opened as full screen. I'm liking this game. I am also a fan of Suikoden(4).

I may put in more detailed info later, but, for now, I've updated this page with some basic recruitment info. Keep track of who you can get, and when!
OK. I may start the game over and keep notes. I did notice a couple typos. I'll note those, too if you want. I think I will give all the xp to the first 6 party members and hopefully get further sooner.

Noting typos is fine. I don't think you'd necessarily need to restart, per say. I suppose it would depend where you are in the game? I mean, while there is a point to recruiting everyone before getting the "108 Bonus", you can still recruit after that.
I'm a little confused. I started the game over. I got Kerry, Davin and Hans in the prison. Then, I got Karuna and Aurelie in Staerdale.
The girl in the Staerdale office says the Baroness is away on business.

In Windwhisper, there is nobody in the office at all.
I've talked to everyone repeatedly and cannot get into the volcano or
Glikx Heights.
So far, nobody has mentioned the volcano.
Can't go to palace either.
I don't see anywhere else to go or anything else to do. Did I miss something, somewhere?

Out of the blue, after staying at the inn, a cutscene with Feroz happened.
Must matter how many times you stay? Onward!

It's Windwhisper's inn that triggers the cutscene at the Palace, and only Windwhisper's inn. Once that cutscene runs, Feroz should be in his office, and Kerry should disallow you from exiting Windwhisper until you talk to him. At which point, Sraphyhl Peak opens up, as well as the remainder of the non-automatic stars up to this point (ie: the characters associated with "Chapter 1").

*Edit: If you haven't already, buy some Grapes (or Wine) at Staerdale, and sell them to Windwisper. There, buy Crystal Balls and/or Wood, and sell them back to Windwhsiper. Personally, I usually do that trade until my party hits level 4/5, then recruit, but, that's just me!

*Edit2: Well, okay, it's more like I recruit those people at level 4/5 because all characters that can be put into the party have their levels set relative to where Sarah's at when you recruit them, and I'm testing that functionality.
Great idea! Thanks
Congratulations on finishing your game and, unless you were kidding, Happy Birthday.
Hi, Marrend.
The only two recruits I am missing are Niku and Yasoui.
Niku keeps saying something about a contract.
There was mention about breaking the army into smaller armies, but, I haven't figured that out, yet.

I'm doing a lot of trading and fighting to get everyone's levels up.
They all have the best of equipment. Runes are next. I will probably put my save in the new version.
Very enjoyable to play.

I'll quote my own recruits page on this matter.

  • Niku, Yasui
Found in: Wal Pinnacle
After you are sent to Wal Pinnacle for a second time, find Niku on the east side-cliff of Wal. You will need 100,000 Geld-Pasil before she presents you the opportunity to recruit her. Pay up, and she'll join you, along with Yasui. They make up the "Ninjistu" Unite.

Hans mentions dividing the army into three separate units when you take the Imperial Palace. This is a reference to the war-battle system (feature?) of the game, and how you can select which unit to place at the front line. I probably considered allowing players to customize, or otherwise rearrange war-battle units. However, in the end, I decided on what original Suikoden did, and have units hard-coded with who they included.

Transferring the save file from old version to new should be okay. I think? Still, let me know if something odd comes up. Thanks again for playing, and for the comments!
Thanks. I know where Niku was. I had actually thought it was about more money or I had to talk to someone at the palace. More gold!! Thanks, again.
