Enter the world of Grayscale, an island kingdom with a terrible secret brewing at its heart! Enjoy the retro feel of Gameboy-esque colors, sounds, music, and graphics! A short story game at its core, the end product will probably run for an hour or two.

Play as the son of a nation leader who falls victim to a heinous plot, then make your escape with the help of a friend! Rally the surrounding villages to retake the kingdom from the villain in charge, and recruit a cast of swappable characters along the way with a simple tavern based party system! Random Encounters driving you batty? King of Grayscale features avoidable combat, with battlegrounds to utilize at working up your xp instead!

First my submission for the RMN 2017 Birthday Event, and now finished as of the RPGMaker 28th Birthday event. It's been a long and crazy year, and I'm really thankful for everyone that's come along the way. Enjoy these features!

-Eight playable characters!
-Classic Gameboy lack of colors!
-Four letter character names!
-Level 20 cap!
-Endless hype for a short gam!

Version 1.8 now available!

Hey guys! The bugs are becoming less and less frequent! We only have one minor bug fix with this update.

One of the enemy encounters in Grayscale Castle wasn't registering a tick down of overall encounters and therefore wasn't labelling Grayscale Castle as complete when all encounters were complete. This is now fixed!

Happy Grayscale-ing!

Hi Unity! Glad you're having fun with it!

It's a point system. Going through areas with characters in your party, and participating in battles with them gets points with them. Whoever has the most points at the event gets the scene!

Super cool! I'm very tempted to see if I can get some of the other characters' scenes as well :DDDD

I beat the game! That was quite a treat! Really loved the old school feel, as well as getting to hear all that game boy RPG music! What a nice nostalgia trip, thank you! :DDD

No I didn't! I'll have to poke around a bit more :D
I took a suggestion from peoples opinions about Ruby Radiance and tried to change up NPC's dialogue a bit throughout the game. One NPC in Platina drops the hint!

So there IS something you can do with that place! :o

I never really went back to it after finishing the game, and now you've got me curious to see if I can crack the puzzle this time.
Oh, wow! Thanks for the feature, everyone!

I'm going to have to really amp up my progress on KoG 2! :p

Some of you might notice an update to the download, I forgot to delete my save files out of the original 1.6 upload. They should be gone now!
