Babby's First Gam

Heh.
So in a way, this is technically my first completed game submitted for the rest of the world to play. I have a couple of contest entries, but they're just dopey little things I didn't put much effort into. This is a heartfelt project I spent roughly six months on, if you add it all up. And to think, it was only supposed to take 3 weeks! If you ever need advice on workload projection and time management, stay the hell away from me.

Anyway, this will be tucked neatly under my belt as I move on to bigger and more ambitious horizons.

What did you make Mirak? Mine is a Demonfighter now. Ridiculously strong... like if anything hits it hurts but 9 times out of 10 they miss.

I have to use Mirak sparringly now or I don't get to feed XP to my other characters!
I made him a mercenary! He's decently strong atm but not overpowered~
War Log I;
The rebellion is going well. Gourd is alive and sometimes manages to hit something with his bow. Mirack seems to inspire the hatred of everyone who sees him, including skeletons, which is impressive considering their lack of brains. We were ambushed by ghouls, but they just danced (they've got some moves) until we put them back in their graves. All is going well. For now...
Excellent. It's good to see people slowly figuring out that Gourd isn't there to tank bandits and take one for the team.
Look here, if I wanna make him a knight and send him to do some slaughter, I expect him to live up to that career, not die up to it! >:O

Finally got around to playing this game. I've just recruited unity and Yellow Magic at the shrine. Gourd's level 3-ish, while pianotm and Liberty I think are around 4? Mirak's like, level 6, though. I'm not terribly familiar with promotion in Fire Emblem games, but, if it's anything like Shining Force (where it's only possible after level 10), I've still got a ways to go?

*Edit: Though, I must note that in Shining Force, characters only ever get one promotion, and there is only the level requirement. There must be more than a mere level requirement in this game, given what I'm gathering from the event at this shrine.

*Edit2: Welp! Never mind! I thought there would be a promotion option through the "Manage Party" menu while in the shrine. It didn't make much sense to me for the game to return to the map after I was done. Also, I thought the "promotion items" were a reference to the stat-stones!

*laughs nervously*
Don't worry. A lot of people have stumbled over figuring out the wacky manner in which promotions are done. Curse Sim RPG Maker 95's engine limitations!

Anyway, go to the second town :3

Just got there, tough it took a bit of doing to go through both the Renpy Gate and the graveyard to get there. Totally worth the trip, though!

Dunno if the class of the character that players get in that town was based on the orignal Fire Emblem forum game, or not. Still very much appreciated ;)

You literally stole the plot, world map, and battle maps, and sprites from FE2 Gaiden. (The original NES version of 2017's FE15 Echoes Shadows of Velencia on 3DS) This is more like a rom hack of gaiden then anything else lol.

P.S. Fire Emblem Fates is a garbage wifu simulator with terribly written characters only written to make them "sexy" and "attractive" like Charlotte, Camilla, (classic yandere) Xander, (he is the best character IMO) Kagero, Corrin, (literally an OP perfect self insert character) Elise, (classic moe character) Selena (classic Tsunadere) see what I mean? I hope to Naga FE switch is not like fates and is like echoes but with good map design. Please no more wifus or stolen awakening ideas. Awakening was not that good (decent though probably top 5) and only did so well because of good release timing and marketing. Raidiant Dawn would have had the same success if it had the same and Nintendo didn't limit sales, mistranslated the difficulty names, and relying solely on Super Smash Bros Brawl to sell copies.

Edit: Also if you suck at this game look up a FE gaiden guide. The only thing different is the character names. Another thing, if you want to play this game but 1000x better, buy Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valencia on Nintendo 3DS, only $39.99! Buy it today at www.nintendo.com (yes i work for nintendo)

This is extremely rude. Dyhalto made an excellent game that celebrates RMN and is fun to play. No where did he say he created the assets from scratch, and the story is obviously a parody with King Kentonus.

Also, his gamepage isn't your personal blog to complain about FE titles you don't like. There's no reason to be a jerk like this.
I second what Unity says, and would like to remind Dyhalto that the hide button exists for use in such comments as this one.

Also, I find this game a lot more fun than some of the Fire Emblem games that the company has seen fit to bring out. So there!
Third. Dyhalto did say he used FE Gaiden's rips. I never played that game but what I do know is every FE game I had played were very similar so it would be fair to assume this one played out in a similar fashion.

However Dyhalto had to recreate everything in a new engine which took months. He added a bunch of RMN humor and jokes so it can't possibly be exactly the same game with just different names.

Even if Dyhalto had just painstakingly remade FE2 Gaiden that is still a damn incredible undertaking so he still wouldn't deserve such behavior!
Those opinions katt posted were so royally wrong that it almost inspired me to download this game and give it a try because his opinions were so wrong about everything else that this game must be great.
That feeling when you realize you're so old, people accuse your casual use of ripped 8-bit graphics as you pulling some kind of fast one.
orz

Chapter 1 is a virtual recreation of FE Gaiden's Chapter 1 because, when I made it, it was for the 10th Birthday event and I had an extremely limited time to put something together. Later on, I made a few amendments like adding minibosses Buenos and Yester, but left it mostly intact because why not? And then I recycled a few legit FE:G ideas, like the lone zombie dragon guarding a shrine with a holy weapon, a maze-y forest, and shamans being assholes.
But things deviate substantially in Chapter 3, and things just start getting silly from that point on. I assure you, it's not a mere re-creation.

Katt, I agree with you on FE Fates though. I even put a little shoutout in the end credits to Shouzou Kaga, lamenting his departure from the series.

Congrats on getting featured, this game deserves it!
Wahey - well done Dyhalto! Definitely deserved.

... Shame that I'm so irredeemably terrible at games like these I can't get past the first couple of stages. I shall persevere! I will review this game, one day...
Thanks, guys :3

I wonder if anybody has beaten it yet.
There don't seem to be any walkthroughs, so I've gotta ask. Is Benos recruitable?

No one in the squad seems to have a talk option with him, and capturing the throne with Liberty also doesn't seem to be an option. This is my first time playing a Fire Emblem this retro, so I'm not actually sure what to expect from it.
Nah, he's just a miniboss. There'll be a lot more as you progress. Go ahead and whack him.

Don't worry about missing people. Generally speaking, if you visit a relevant place, you'll recruit a person. There's only one you could feasibly screw up, but it's hard for her to get killed by zombies.
There are a couple of one-or-the-other situations though.
double post : How did this happen? o_O;;
