Really? I mean really? Dude, this could be an awsome game if it wasn't for the clunkey controls and the poor game design.
The artworks irritate me a little. Most are superb, then others are a little... meh. Were they all done by the same person?
The controls are ok, except when it comes to fighting. It works if you're patient, but it's clunkier than it needs to be. At least bashing the heads of these lunatics is quite satisfying.
Yet the gamedesign is what kills it for me and I hate to say that cause with a little tweaking this game could be one of my favs. First of all, even though it's obvious to see where the inspiration comes from, I'm glad you choose a a little different scenario with crazies, instead of ripping off resident evil. Unfortunately you tend to emulate styles and mechanics which are quite outdated. For example the "opening door animation" or the "step down the stairs animation". It looks cool, but after the fifth time watching it, it gets annoying, cause it slows down the flow. Also the idea with the ckp points is not good. Why not have an inventory to store and use items whenever u want?
And when I chose to save a game it asks me if I'm sure and says that even if I don't save I lose a cpk use... wtf?
Even though I didn't find another ckp point, I managed to progress quite a while thanks to the still very fair health supply. Yet after what was like an hour of playing without saving, I left a chimney only to get burned alive without the chance to even fight back or run away while everyone was laughing at me...
Really? Is it necessary to troll the player with such cheap deathtraps. I mean I could accept that when u would be able to save whenever you want, but like this it's just pure mockery.
You should really consider making an enhanced version of this. This game deserves better. I feel ashamed cause I really liked the rest. The music is awsome, the art and pixelworks are great for the most part and the atmosphere gaves me some chills. There is no need to ruin this with sloppy mechanics or tedious gamedesign. So please don't take my critism personal. I'm maybe a little harsh if this was your fist game, but it should help you for your next one. Potential is there after all.
Greetings Red-Cube,
Thank you for reporting your point of view, we seriously consider our audience to make our games better in the future.
We have been releasing new versions of our game and in fact the most recent changes are the slightly improvement in the curve of difficulty and several bug fixes, so in part, these changes improve some of the things you mention.
You can see these changes in our rpgmaker.net blog.
On the other hand, what you comment on the stairs / doors animations or the combat system itself, you should understand that we have been inspired by the classic Resident Evil, we wanted to make a game with similarities to that game and Silent Hill, giving a different perspective (the maniacs).
They are also the reason that at certain times they set traps, because they are not 100% brainless creatures as a zombie would be. In fact, here is an image capture that warns of maniacs menace.
On the other hand, all the artwork and pixelart (in addition to music and some sounds), are developed 100% by ourselves.
This is important to us, as we are accustomed to seeing games with recycled graphics from other games and although we still have to keep improving, it is an added value and our own identity to what we do.
It is also the first ARPG that we have done. Although it has its weaknesses, the next thing we do is going to be much better considering how well Desolate City has been polished to be our first survival game.
In any case, in future games we will take into account the details reported, always with the objective that the game experience and the game itself are better.
Thank you very much.
