Hero's Realm: Heroic Edition
I always wanted to publish a game based on everything I enjoyed as a kid. This will be the end result.



Lead four heroes and their teams against the evil forces of Mephistocles, the Lord of Demons in this retro-RPG adventure. Switch between the four heroes as you explore dungeons, ascend towers, spelunk caves, save villages and defeat the forces of evil! Reminiscent of classic NES/SNES-era RPGs, Hero's Realm is a fun romp in old-school RPG nostalgia.


  • Play as 4 powerful Heroes and their customizable party throughout a four chapter story, each with their own skillset & battle commands!
  • Come together in the final fifth to adventure with all four parties - switching between them anytime, even in boss battles!
  • Customize your heroes' party by selecting from 21 unique character classes split between the mage, warrior, and rogue specialties, including unlockable elite and master classes!



  • 25 character classes (12 base classes, 4 hero classes, 6 elite classes, 3 master classes)
  • Over 30 hours of game content and sidequests

Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt! Lightning bolt!



I am once again focusing on battle animation resources. Not because they are the most pressing requirement right now, but because it is something I can spin up and do in short order and work on in short bursts (and I find I am enjoying it, which is a plus!). Kids' fall activities are starting up again, so I find myself sitting around an arena or Tim Hortons for a hour or so frequently again. If I manage to bring my laptop, I can then launch Aseprite (sp?) and get working on it.

This past week was all about lightning. I think they turned out well! I made a variety of bolts of varying intensity that should suit my needs for the game. Incorporating them with the cool works that visitorsfromdreams made for me (sorry the game isn't out visitors... :( ) is quite exciting.


Speaking of resources.... HOLY MOLY HAVE pianotm and zDS been PHENOMENAL. They have taken all of my unreasonable requests in stride and ran with it, producing a whopping 68 songs (I think! My count might be off...). Plus, they plan on making more and/or refining what they made. I really appreciate it.

Speaking of resources pt.2.... AREN'T AVEE'S TILESETS GREAT? I've been posting screenshots (finally - more than a year too late) of the tileset work he has done. Because not only did he make all of these custom tilesets, he went through the game map by map and replaced them when I was too depressed to do so myself.

And to this day its still probably in the top of its genre (snes style, characters on screen during fights, customizable classes, grindtastic romp genre?) ;P Anyway I've got a $20 framed on my wall, when hero's realm comes out I will break the glass

A hero is neither late or early, but arrives exactly when he means to. (Late 2018 is an outside chance at this point but don't bet the farm on it. 2019 is more likely)

This is really inspiring stuff. I look forward to the release.
I really can't wait to see how this turns out. With so many people claiming that menu based RPGs are bad design, and that good games can only be made with VX Ace and MV, I'm hoping this proves it all wrong.
Have you considered using a 5-person battle system instead of the typical 4?
Having 20 characters might be a bit much (you already get 16 - 4 parties of 4. You really don't need any more than that). Besides, it'd mean having to figure out a lot of eventing to get it to work since the game is made in 2k3... which would be a hell of a lot of work.

I hadn't really considered that for this game. Unfortunately, as Liberty alluded to, this game is made in a old engine and is limited to a 4 person party. I'd most likely have to remake the game to be able to achieve that effect. If this game is able to make its money back, maybe the next one I will do 5 person party. Thanks for the input!

But with the previously gained Master Classes from the start, and equipment. It could be an option in the beginning barracks where you originally chose your first group/s.

If not, no huge issue, I've been enjoying the game for a while, and have had multiple playthrough.
I tend to choose my groups by rolling dice. I'm planning on trying a joker run next perhaps followed by hero only run.

hmmm not a bad idea. I kind of wished that DQIX had this feature for new games. I will add this to my "nice-to-haves" list.
