It only took a few moments for the feeling of panic to set in. “What if I lived my life wrong? How would I be judged? What if there is nothing after this?

The story begins with an individual, recently deceased, who is struggling to comprehend the reality of being dead. The mind, disconnected and failing, desperately attempts to form some vision of reality. Yet, the memories of its life are only distant whispers. It can't recall a personality, friends, or even an appearance. But there is hope. The memories of the music, the disconnected emotions. And in a rush of information, sometimes there appear memories of her: the rockstar.

The Endless Empty is an adventure RPG with a focus on exploration and choices. The game explores the concepts of death and the afterlife, and takes place in 5 chapters. Each chapter has a different theme and a unique art style. The game takes the player on a branching journey through the unknown. there are a variety of memories to explore; From upbeat suburban neighborhoods, to gritty industrial wastelands, to colorful psychedelic hallucinations.

The Endless Empty Sequel (A Chamber of Stars)

A Chamber of Stars

I have spent the last year working on a sequel to The Endless Empty. This sequel project is titled A Chamber of Stars.

A free demo available on Steam (Link) and Itch (Link).

A Chamber of Stars has many changes compared to The Endless Empty. First I've moved game engines from RPGmaker to Unity allowing more freedom in animations and environments. The sequel will focus more the on the adventure, puzzle and choice aspects of the series. Finally the game will add new rhythm game elements to progress big moments in the game's story.

With confidence, I can without a doubt say this game has most certainly taken my breath away.
It's filled a void in my soul I never even knew existed. To see something I longed for so dearly present in such an magnificent way.

I'm truly delighted to have come across this game.
(And really sad that I'm almost done with it, haha.)

Anyways, this game has had a BIG impact on me, so I drew some fanart for it!
It's nothing amazing ,but I tried my best!
(Especially since it took me a few hours, lol.)

(Hope the link worked, would suck if it didn't.. -m-,,)

Thanks for making such an amazing game!

Wow! I love it! Anxiety is so cute.

Would it be okay if I shared this on my game's social media accounts. I will be sure to leave a link to your deviantart.
Ahh! Thank you so much!

And absolutely! I would greatly appreciate that!

(Also, my apologies, I have no clue how to respond on here, haha.)
Awesome thank you.

I've posted it on my facebook https://www.facebook.com/SugarySweetMachines/
and twitter https://twitter.com/ErikSheader

The game also has a steam community going if you would like to post your art there I would great appreciate it. https://steamcommunity.com/app/959410

And no worries rpgmaker.net can be confusing at first :)

Ahh! Wonderful! Thank you!

I actually did try to post in on Steam at first! But I don't think it'll let me until I buy the game on there.. Which I totally plan to, haha. This game is so amazing, I definitely wanna support it!
My my, I am so lost, so confused..

*MAJOR SPOILER ALERTS FOR ANYONE PLAYING THIS GAME*

Did I get a bad ending?
The way the game ended seemed so.. Sudden.. So abrupt..
No explanations, no closure..
I'm sort of under the assumption I probably did something wrong which lead to that.
I recall a page somewhere saying there's multiple endings...
Hey VonSmore. I didn’t know Steam only lets you post if you have bought the game, that’s kinda lame. Check your private messages on here I sent you something.

About the ending you did nothing wrong, but I will try to explain my thinking

Big time spoilers below.

There are multiple endings that slightly change how the game finishes. Each one though has you in the final hallway and open the door to the endless/credits. None of the endings are good, yet none of them are particularly bad. I felt forcing in a happy end or full closure would betray the themes the game has delt with so far. Just think about what Starr said after weighing your heart when asked if you made it to heaven: “It was never up to me, it was your choice all along.”
Okay, I'll check it!

*SPOILERS*

I suppose that's true. A happy ending or one with complete closure would seem out of place in a game like this.
I guess I just wasn't expecting the end to literally be right there, so I was kinda surprised, hahaha.
May I ask what determines what ending you get??
If possible, I'd still like to go back and try to find the other endings!

Either way, I absolutely loved this game. It was such an amazing experience! One I'll be left thinking about for a very long time.. I never thought any game would surpass my love of Gingiva, but boy did this take me by surprise! A wonderfully delightful surprise at that. Thank you so much for making such a wonderful game!

The ending is based on what character you are during the last chapter of the game. (As you noticed your player changes forms throughout the game). These changes are based on how you answer the multiple choice questions in each chapter and how you solve the puzzles (almost every puzzle in the game has multiple solutions). I can give you more details depending on what character you want to end with.
Oh! I didn't realize there were that many sources that could change it!
It's cool that your choices in the game actually have genuine meaning!

And I would appreciate that!
I would like to know, what would it have been like if it had ended with the Business Man?? (Him and the Nothing were my favorite models, haha!)
Ok here is a guide on how to end with the businessman

More spoilers

1. While getting you resume answer: Iron Fist, Report to management, & Export
2. Tell the boss Money is what is wanted by a capitalist society
3. In the desert get to the cave and get the crystal dust
4. Sell the crystal dust to get the museum door code.
5. Solve the effigy puzzle from left to right M,A,B,#13
6. When entering the limo the first time answer: A Shrine, A Face, Two People, #3

You should turn into the business man at the end of this chapter. For the next chapters do the following to remain as the businessman

1. At the bar click on the drink and refuse to take a drink
2. During the coloring book puzzle, follow the words in the book not the colors
3. When creation asks why are you here answer: To find a way out
4. Second time in the limo select the $ symbol.
5. During the Sphinx's quiz answer anything but the mathematically correct answers
6. On the computer puzzle select the trash icon
7. When creating a memory with Logic add have Anxiety add more drops than Creation
8. Third limo trip answer: Anxious
9. When asked by the reptile farmer Do you think what I'm doing is wrong? answer: NO
10. Select Refuse both times Anger asks you who to shoot.
11. Final limo trip answer: Yes

good luck

There is a way to stay as the nothing through the whole game but that's a bit more complicated.

Just finished playing through the game, and I have to say it's a phenomenal adventure. I love the quirky photo backgrounds and characters, the personalities of each, and the struggles everyone faces and tries to overcome. It's a deep, thought-provoking game paired with a fitting soundtrack and surreal visuals. What else can I say but great work!

Not sure if it was intended or not, but just before chapter 3 starts (hidden for spoilers)
when you're in the area with all the doors, I went to the bottom left of the screen and it teleported me past Creation's boss fight (which I hadn't done yet) and past the limousine ride.
If this was intentional please ignore.

Thank you so much for the adventure! I hope you get more exposure because it's a game that deserves a lot. Heck, I even drew some fanart to hopefully garner some more attention from my followers, because I know several of them would love a game like this (http://fav.me/dcs0x5m there's the art).

One last note: do you have any plans for merch? I'd be interested in stickers or small pins with the playable characters on them. No worries if not, but I figured I'd ask :)
Thank you for your kind words and your fantastic fan art! I would love to share it in my social accounts, with your permission of course.
Yeah that skip is not intentional, I’ll fix it as soon as I get home.

As for merch I would love to make some but being that this is a independent game made by one person, merch seems like a too big of an investment for me. If you know any companies/artists that do small scale runs of pins and other merch I’m willing to check them out though.
Of course! You can link it back to my deviantart if you'd like, but feel free to use it wherever :)

I feel you re: merch. I use Redbubble for things like stickers. You upload your design, and Redbubble handles the creation of things and ships them out for you. You get paid a small percent of the sale price, but you don't have to make anything, just provide the design!
From the looks of things, Zazzle does the same thing as Redbubble, except you can also choose pins to sell? I haven't used it, but that's what it looks like.

Anyways, if it's too much of a hassle, again, don't worry about it. Thanks.
Awesome!

I have never used those sites before so I didn't know how it worked. I'll check them out and let you know if I put any merch up.

Also link me to your YT live-play when it is done :)

I have a storefront on Zazzle open now:
https://www.zazzle.com/the_endless_empty

I included stickers and pins like you asked.
Thanks so much! The video is going up on Sunday and I’ll be sure to post a link to it.

The merch looks fantastic too. Would it be alright if I requested some pins/stickers of the in-game character sprites too, and/or some of the protagonist’s various forms? Provided it’s feasible of course.
Would you be okay with the sprites sitting on a white background? On zazzle I can only do circle or square pins, I can't make it fit to the character's shape.
White backgrounds are fine yeah. Thanks!
Cool, I put up some designs like this in the store.

May take a bit for them to show up.

Ordered some pins and a sticker. Thank you!

Also my youtube video is up now. Click for video.
