In The Retreat .. you are, well, retreating and trying to sneak back to your home country to deliver the secret cure-all notes you somehow acquired and noted down during your raid.

.. Yeah, you just happened to do that while your squat was dying and you escaping.

The premise is simple, but I feel it is a little bit crudely delivered. I do not particularily care for the squad I am supposed to have lost, nor does it make me curious about the whole fight or whatever war seems to be going.
Secondly, the only way to go is where you came from in the cut-scene .. it does not seem to be a wise idea to either waste time, or go back to direction of the enemy.
Well, the enemies in the camp are humans, but your squat was taken out by demons - how this ties to the story we do not yet know.

Having said all that, there is plenty of premise to built upon. What your squat used to be, what kind of leader you were, how your hometown actually is with all that raging war .. and so on.
With only two maps and a little bit of dialogue, there is much to be seen yet, but it certainly has room to go somewhere.

You don't say!

Graphics and music are RTP and nothing too special, they do they job.

What really makes this little game enjoyable is just this piece of banter while you sneak around - weird rumors, babbling and whatnot make for an amusing change of atmosphere in a life-death situation. The sneaking itself is very easy and simple so far, but nevertheless enjoyable.
I quite like this approach as you still have to time your approach, but have plenty of room - and can still fight enemies instead of having to redo everything.
However it is possible that the other soldiers do not notice you fighting ..
The sneaking will most likely become increasingly difficult.

I feel the story part could have been delivered more elegantly, but it is a little fun piece nevertheless.
