Short but Sweet

This was a short game submitted as a contest entry, and ended up being much shorter than I expected. I only spent about 15 minutes on it, and that's with a few deaths. That being said, I'm sad there's not more! Although this is more of a proof of concept than anything else, it's a solid idea and I think the dev did a good job getting the feeling of a Resident Evil game across. Notably, this was made over the course of 2 weeks, so in that context the length was a smart decision.

Here's a brief rundown of the controls as I didn't see them written anywhere:
esc - enter fighting stance
enter - shoot, when in fighting stance, otherwise examine/pick up items
shift - reload
1 - use first aid spray

But it's really only the esc/enter that I'd need to mention, as the HUD helpfully tells you how to heal and reload (although the healing took me a hilariously long time to figure out, that was my bad).

The shooting controls are awkward and I had trouble with them at first, but once I got used to them I thought it was fitting. Awkward controls are one of the things that can make the player feel vulnerable, and they weren't so bad as to prevent me from playing or anything. It's been noted that you can shoot through walls and a few other oddities, which are issues I imagine would have been fixed in some hypothetical expansion. Considering it had such a short development time, I'm impressed by how well everything seemed to work.

For anyone curious, here's how I did:

That 60% hit rate is better than I thought it'd be.

There's a huge amount of attention to atmosphere and detail, down to the splat noises when you walk over corpses. I think there's a lot of potential in its system and this is an excellent title for those looking at ways you can capture that Survival Horrorâ„¢ feeling in an RPG Maker game.

Thanks for the awesome review. I'd love to come back to something like this again. I had originally begun to build more, and there where three separate missions, one with Chris, Leon and Jill. Leon, was all that made it in, primarily due to a hard drive failure, but I digress. Thank you for taking the time to write this! :)
