Alright so a few thoughts were spurring in my head for quite sometime now. This article is intended to shed some light on some important factors I feel one should always consider, remember, and NOT forget when they first approach their creative project.

What are these important factors? One factor is Selecting the right medium and the other is Working on things you TRULY enjoy doing.

I want Francisco's Hat.
I've enjoyed a lot of Craze's work in the past, like Demon Tower and Visions & Voices, but I've also made fun of the fact that he kept releasing what was essentially the same game over and over again.

This is not that game.

Wine and Roses is probably Craze's greatest work to date, and is certainly one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. No "RM" qualifier, this is just a good game right here.

Spotlight: The Unwelcome Guest
You find yourself out of gas on a dark back road in the middle of the night. You remember seeing a rather opulent looking house just a little ways back. It looked a little...abandoned...
Featured: Love and War
The hallmark of great storytelling in RPGs is interesting characters, great dialogue, and, of course, story itself. Love and War has that. Admiral Styles has crafted a great classic.

This review is PG-13. OH NO.

First Officer's Log, stardate 1112012.133.
RPGMaker.net has docked at Red Velvet Cake Services, Inc. to experience the latest in holodeck simulations (and NOT the delicious slices of Red Velvet cake goodness as per the norm for yours truly): a holodeck puzzle game within a holodeck: Befuddle Quest: The Next Generation.
But, does that mean it's fun...?
As technology moves forward throughout all facets of our lives, sometimes we feel a blossoming longing for what we once held dear. Whether that be cartoons and movies we watched, comic books and traditional literature we drew inspiration from...

I played this game a while ago but never reviewed it! I'm really losing my touch! But anyone who recognizes Anaryu around here knows that his games are almost always worth checking out (and I'm not just saying that because I've worked on a few games with him!) and this one is no exception. I feel like this game is a great example of what someone can do with RPG Maker in a short amount of time of they put their mind to it.
RPG Maker VX Ace Lite Released
This past Saturday, EB/Degica has released a Lite version of RPG Maker VX Ace - and it is completely free. There is no time limit, however there are restrictions to the engine.
Monsters, stats, damage and balance. A game of numbers.
I've started work on my first project, and I'm having some trouble with a design stage. And it's really bothering me because I for some unknown reason simply refuse to start mapping and eventing until I have some starting points done on the database.

I am, understandably, utterly confused by how I should balance the numbers in my game.
Small, but sweet. A real crème brûlée.

To start, it needs to be noted that Boutalles was made as a 2 week contest entry. Everything except the tilesets and icons was made within those 2 weeks. Now, I take into consideration the context and apparent intention of the project when I review it. That doesn’t mean that I should ignore unpolished sections. However, it does help me understand what I’m getting into.

Boutalles focuses almost exclusively on gameplay. And while there’s a lot to be said about it, I’ll start with the other elements first.

Spotlight: In Search for Dragons
This game by Indra was started for the Nugget Crash Course event. It was too ambitious for that short event, and so a full game is in the works! Check out the prequel In Search of Clues.
