Wizards are the masters of black magic.  They learn black magic spells faster and sooner than any other class (that happens to learn black magic) and they have the highest INT and MP in the game.  However, they are weak fighters, and can only equip a handful of equipment.

Druid

THE HEALER

Druids are the masters of healing. They learn white magic spells faster and sooner than any other class (that happens to learn white magic) and have an affinity with Poison and Earth magics. Druids are decent fighters and can equip some pretty powerful equipment, allowing them to survive enemy attacks long enough to heal your party.

THE MASTER OF EFFECT AND POISON MAGIC

Mesmers are the masters of effect magic.  They learn effect magic spells faster and sooner than any other class (that happens to learn effect magic).  They also can cast Poison spells, giving them a much-needed firepower boost.  They, too, are weak fighters, and can only equip a handful of equipment.

Warlock

THE ARCANE ALCHEMIST

They can create potions in battle and then use them as items for various effects and substantial damage or healing, or stockpile them for later use.  Alchemists can learn new potions by acquiring recipes, usually from a vendor. Furthermore, they can raise skeletons, explode corpses and cast a small selection of black and effect magic.  They can be decent fighters if properly equipped and a Poison Dagger has been summoned.
