Okay, forget Pom – why is Pocket Mirror still buzzing on the front page like crazy!?

- It just never seems to go away!

For an “okay-ish” sort of demo, it’s amazing to see that it’s still plastered all over the front page like it owns the place and see it quickly amass up to 160+ subscribers and over 6000+ downloads just for the demo alone since March. That’s some pretty impressive numbers, there; definitely nothing to sneeze at.

- But am I missing something here? The game certainly does look quite lavish and has a bit of promise after I initially played it, but the demo really didn’t convince me enough that this was something to look out for in the future. And with that, it’s become one of the most popular games of the year, even to point where its front page influence might even earn it some Misaos.

I’m not trying to put it down or anything (as you never know, the full version might be great when it gets released), but it just seems like it’s been there forever and I just wish that another game got a chance up there for a little while that needs a bit more attention.

Anyways, just thinking to myself out loud. It always makes you wonder how some games stay up there on the buzzing list for so long while other games don’t. Pom’s understandable, but this one makes me still scratch my head.
I think it's because of the lolicon-esque theme.

For me, it is a fine game. Nothing more, nothing less. But the dev turned out to be a turd. He can't even accept the negative comments! If someone so much as sneezes at his game for being a loli, he'd go all asian on your face.
(go all asian == go apeshit)

And if that guy ever reads this, please for the love of <insert preferred deity/s>, learn to listen once in a while.

After reading through the game page to confirm what karins_soulkeeper was saying, along with some other pages, I have come up with a very simple technique to get your game to the front page: Be a douche.

Get people angry and make them post telling you how wrong you are. This is how you get enough buzz for your game to rocket it to the front page. Throw the bait in the water, and watch as the angry community does your advertising work for you.

All those other devs who are smart, nice, and accept criticism well? Pfft. That is SO last year! Building up your fanbase with your game's merits alone? Pfft. No one has time for that!

Mirror-based gameplay is all the rage these days! That's why I cashed in quick with Mirror Boy. My next games, Mirror of Duty and The Legend of Mirror, will truly be my most groundbreaking efforts.
We need all our games to be remade into mirror games!

Buzz does not discriminate between good buz and bad buzz. Buzz mad! Buzz smash!

You could always go and visit all the games that are immediately below it on the buzz list and inflate their numbers, pushing PM off, but the buzz is based on what actually happens. It's democracy in action, the good and the bad.

Though I do understand the frustration, it's an okay game not a great one (at least not yet), and the dev does not take criticism well.

do you believe it now, comrade?

Also besides the whole loli thing it has that poisonous "Alice in Wonderland" sensibility going on that there are like 50 trillion mangas/animes about

To me it's not hard to see why it's so popular. It's like Forever's End- playing on some generic idea that has a huge fanbase of people who are only concerned about that one specific concept. Except in this case it's little girls and a false sense of "deep storytelling" instead of knocking off Final Fantasy.

Disclaimer: I have not actually played Pocket Mirror, nor am I ever going to

You know that I’m a preverbal sucker for anything that has cute animu girls with sexy shiny graphics in it. Consider me sold!
It's probably because of people like you.
