At least the good thing about your favorite sports teams losing games constantly is that you have a lot more free time to do other things in your life

…like game making and making a giant sandwich!

And on the plus side as well, if the team still continues to struggle, then they get to draft first overall and potentially pick up a franchise player that will turn the team around in a few years time, so that’s always good to look forward to.

(…Unless you’re the Edmonton Oilers.)

Oilers and Riders fan here.

Tell me about it.
You are a very positive person.
The watermelon wearing Rider fans shall rise again, someday. Besides, look what happened with the Redblacks this season compared to last season. Same thing could happen with the Riders – or the Blue Bombers…not bloody likely – but who knows???

And as long as Connor McJesus is out and the Oilers still don’t continue to address their goaltending and defensive woes, they ain’t going anywhere for a while. But they’re at least in better shape than the Canucks are looking forward, so that’s a positive for them, I guess.

- Hey, wait a minute, you’re originally from B.C., weren’t you? How come you’re not a Canucks and / or Lions fan? What happened? Was it ’94? (It was ’94, wasn’t it?)

Well - I can be, under the right sort of persuasion. :P
It doesn't matter if you're last, Edmonton will get #1 in the draft again and doom some other poor kid's career to perpetual mediocrity.

No no, I grew up in North Battleford, Saskatchewan (during the 80s and 90s, y'know, when the Oilers dominated). I moved to BC to start my Masters but then moved back to Saskatchewan to get a sweet job. I was born bleeding Green and Edmonton was the nearest NHL city (and also they were pretty darn good at the time).
Oh – okay, I always thought that you were born and raised in B.C. before you decided to move out to Saskatchewan later on in life. Now I know the true story behind it all.

And, yeah, it’s a shame what’s happened to the Oilers franchise in the last couple of years. It seems like ever since Chris Pronger bolted from that team after they made to the Stanley Cup Finals back in 2006 that the team has never been quite the same. I’m sure that the good times will come again for them someday, but they first gotta shore up that defence and find themselves a more capable goalie that can steal them some games. Talbot isn’t bad but it’s going to be a few years from now before he becomes a more capable starter. And instead of drafting Neil Yakupov a few years ago they should have drafted Ryan Murray instead and focused more on developing their blueline instead of adding, yet, another forward to their team. Now they’re considering trading somebody like Eberle or Nugent-Hopkins in order to get some more defensive help – it’s crazy.

But they’re still in a much better position overall than the Canucks going forward, that’s for sure. I like that they’re finally starting to play some of the kids to go along with some of the veterans on the team, but most of the nights it seems like the veterans aren’t even trying other than just a few of them, like the Sedins, Hansen and Tanev. That Anaheim game a few nights ago was pretty ugly, as we got outplayed pretty badly by them and followed up the next two games straight with similar performances. I still believe that the team can turn it around – but they better get their asses in gear soon before it starts to slowly slip away.
But... Do they play fewer games if they constantly lose? Not until the playoffs surely?

Or are you saying you're one of those people who betray your team just because they start losing a bit!
Oh no, no, no, I will never truly betray the Canucks just because they happen to lose a couple of games in a row or they’re having a bad season. Yeah, sure, I may not watch the odd game here or there if they’re in a bit of funk or it’s against a team that’s not really worth watching, but I’ll never truly lose hope or stop being a fan of them just because they’re on a bit of a slide. That'd be stupid.
