AEGIX_DRAKAN'S PROFILE

About me:

Pun loving Canadian, friendly neighbourhood "Ace", and Narrative Designer at Nine Dots Studios.

I've been a huge fan of RPGs (especially turn based ones) since I was young, and it warms my hearts to be able to make RPGs that other people can enjoy.

I thrive on crafting stories that others enjoy, as well as finely tuning combat to be challenging, but fair.

I'd like to say thank you for putting my most recent game on the side banner. :D

That was a really nice surprise to come home to!

If I did stats again would you donate? (donation drive)

Sent 30 bucks, next month I'll see if I can remember to set up a small recurring payment. :)

I very much appreciate this site and the community for giving me a place to share my work, and for all the RPGmakering help I've gotten over the years. :P

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

I've fallen down the hole of Deep Rock Galactic.

Send help, I'm turning into an angry space dwarf who loves rock and stone. ._.

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Hello! Here are what I'm working on. It's a game that you are a dog and walk on a forest(like a dungeon). Don't have estory yet (I'm focus on the gameplay). There are puzzles and a simple action combat. And no name yet. That's it!

I think those maps could use a bit of tall grass here and there to help break up the monotone ground, but other than that, they look pretty nice! :)

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

After a whole lot of truly depressing IRL stuff happenned, I decided to replay one of my games, Glories Of The Hunt, hoping it would cheer me up a bit.

While replaying it, and falling in love with my combat system again, I thought "You know, why don't I go and add those 3 optional bosses I wanted to make when I first made this game?"

And almost overnight I managed to get the first of them done. And it turns out that RPGmaker combat design is actually really therapeutic for me. It managed to be the thing that finally rebooted my motivation.

Sooo, I'm now about half done adding the new optional bosses, and I'm really happy with the fun new fight mechanics I made for them.

Here's a pic of the first of the three new bosses, the Blue Maelstrom!

Windows 11 [Update - Ridiculous Min Requirements]

I am FINALLY satisfied with Windows 10. After like 2 years of major issues, and about 3 more where it's been ok.

I have no interest in upgrading until 11 is in a good, comfortable state. And not until I need to reformat or change my hard drive.

Hali's Review Thread (Request Your Game!)

Oh cool, you started on Turovero?

That was a REAL fun game. :P

How to avoid becoming precious with an early project?

Also, you can always update your short event game later and make it better.

The first thing I released for this site was for an event and while it was pretty functional...It had a lot of issues.

I went back like 4 times to make it better. Replacing random encounters, adding more visual flair so you could tell what was happening, adding new bosses, etc.

Yes, getting it right on the first try and having the game be great on release, or great within the first month or so after release feels the best, but it doesn't HAVE to be that way.

Or maybe it's just a "me" thing. I've learned how to tell my more perfectionist-y tendencies "Alright, that's enough. It's done. Done but imperfect is better than perfect but never released"

[Poll] RPG Maker users: Which engine do you use the most these days?

I used to work exclusively in VX Ace, which is honestly a fantastic engine and I can't tell you how happy I was to discover I had control over damage formulas and status effects. Seriously, it was such a step up from RMXP.

Now, I've migrated over to MV completely (aside from my one remaining long-term project in VXAce). MV is pretty much just "Ace, but more" at this point, and the whole 3D Plugin is just beautiful and I love it.

Not to mention, FINALLY, a character creator tool that's ACTUALLY good. Praise Mod, you have no idea how fantastic it is to have that.

I don't see myself moving to MZ for quite some time. I'm more than happy with MV, and I hope I can actually get more stuff out in it.

As for the other engines, I've poked around them enough to get a feel for them, and...

2K and 2K3 are just too oldschool and limiting for me (ESPECIALLY 2K. Just the one short game I made in it was already really tricky to design), and RMXP, while pretty, feel VERY gimped in the combat engine department compared to VXAce and newer.

Misaos 2020 - Discussion Topic

Going to try and have more review events this year that are aimed at games made this year and nominating misaos.

That would be great, actually.

The review/nominate drive year before last got me to go and try stuff that was under-reviewed, and led to me finding Turovero: The Celestial Tower, which REALLY deserved that music award it won.
