AEGIX_DRAKAN'S PROFILE

About me:

Pun loving Canadian, friendly neighbourhood "Ace", and Narrative Designer at Nine Dots Studios.

I've been a huge fan of RPGs (especially turn based ones) since I was young, and it warms my hearts to be able to make RPGs that other people can enjoy.

I thrive on crafting stories that others enjoy, as well as finely tuning combat to be challenging, but fair.

RPG Maker MZ!

I'm glad to hear that it's pretty good.

I'm unlikely to upgrade for a while yet, since I feel I haven't gotten enough mileage/releases out of MV and I really REALLY love the 3D plugin for it...

But I'm super happy to hear that MZ is good and flexible even at launch. :)

AND!

I'M!

DONE!

*thud*

Am I sad that I had to scrap the optional bosses? Yeah. But other than that cut? I think this is some of my best work.

So yeah, Glories of the Hunt is done! :D

I also made sure that the game is beatable on the easiest mode, even if Liberty decides to just lean on the confirm key for every battle, while having the harder difficulties provide a significant challenge. ;)

Here's hoping the like 3 of you you were into my previous games in this setting (Illusions of Loyalty and Heresies of Discord) enjoy this fresh new addition of crafty combat and nifty lore. :)

50 Days of Representation

You know, I hope people who've played previous entries in the series I'm making my game part of (Same universe as Illusions of Loyalty and Heresies of Discord), will play it and still care about the weird lore I have in it.

Because I'm revealing a long-planned curveball that I think is really neat, but may come across as weird or unnecessary. XD

In any case, balancing the final dungeon and boss today, after that, just need to wrap up a few loose ends, then I can upload it.

I was gonna make optional bosses like in Illusions of Loyalty, but...I spent most of my week off working on the game and I honestly need a break. Maybe I'll revisit the game to add them some other time.

Alrighty, the entire story is done, minus a handful of small campfire conversations that don't have a lot of moving parts involved.

And on to balancing this beast!

So far, the difficulty on the "intended" difficulty (hard mode) is...Interesting.

One one hand, you can lose TONS of HP to one or two enemy attacks and end up in serious trouble VERY quickly (and if the enemy gets a kill, especially bosses, they can REALLY snowball).

On the other hand, you have a HUGE amount of options to get un-screwed. And if you don't need to use those options to get un-screwed...You can use them to dominate the enemy pretty convincingly.

I'm glad I went with ATB, I was able to do a lot of neat tricks with it. Popping a powerful move and going "Everyone gets a turn RIGHT NOW" or "you can take 2 actions this turn" are both REALLY fun to use.

Oh. My. God.

Those maps look GORGEOUS. :o Way to make the oldschool RTP stuff really pop!

Uh, quick question, do we have until the 18th or the 29th? I'm assuming the 29th since that would be 50 days, right?

The updated date thingy on the top of the event page has been updated to say the 29th.

50 Days of Representation

I've mostly been updating via the RMN discord, soo...

All dungeons, carved (just patrol routes left to do)
All enemies made (Stat balance required)
Final boss completed (And MAN do I love it)

Welp, time to turn all that loose dialogue I've been writing into proper story cutscene and "campsites", then do a balance run or two, and I'm done.

...And given that I'm on vacation this week...Yup, looks like I'll finish in time. :D

I feel you. You know what's been ticking me off? Having to map. I don't want my maps to look too ugly, but at the same time I hate the amount of work I have to put into them to leave them half-decent. I guess I just don't understand how physical space works or something.

That is an ENTIRE mood and a half.

I HATE mapping. Creating a space for the player to traverse that is both entertaining and also looks good is seriously a pain. :(

It's why I'm such a fan of the 3D plugin (which I'm NOT using for this project). The 3D plugin simplifies the mapping process so much, by trimming out most of the decorating process, and keeps most rooms/corridors small.

I'm still not ready for a project page. I need at least one more decent screenshot.

I hear you on that. Most of my work is either just dialogue, or systems work to get the combat system ready for content.

I have nothing pretty or visual to show. Just like 3 maps so barebones there's no proper "walls", and a handful of combat encounters that don't have the right sprites yet. XD I have nothing even remotely screenshot-worthy

On the plus side, major climactic scenes have dialogue done, and I've got most of the encounters for the first dungeon semi-ready for testing. That tutorial boss took waaaay longer than I thought it would to balance properly today.

So...Huh.

Since the game I'm making is set in the same world as my first released game (Illusions of Loyalty), with a similar combat system, I went back to look at the enemies from that game.

And WOW, aside from the human enemies near the end, and one other boss, the enemies are all INSANELY simplistic. I don't know how they ever got the job done, yet somehow they did. :o

Meanwhile, my current enemies in this project (Which I'm tentatively calling "Glories of the Hunt") were looking to be probably overcomplicated. I might tone them down juuuust a little in terms of mechanics and maybe just stick to one or two primary attacks/traits per enemy.

Except the bosses. The bosses will do crazy stuff. They're supposed to be the rockstars of the game and feel like a challenge to dominate. XD

Also, I am seriously falling in creative love with my characters. My two main characters have a genuinely fun relationship. ^_^
