AEGIX_DRAKAN'S PROFILE

About me:

Pun loving Canadian, friendly neighbourhood "Ace", and Narrative Designer at Nine Dots Studios.

I've been a huge fan of RPGs (especially turn based ones) since I was young, and it warms my hearts to be able to make RPGs that other people can enjoy.

I thrive on crafting stories that others enjoy, as well as finely tuning combat to be challenging, but fair.

Delusions of Duty Review

Oh hey, wow, I wasn't expecting this one to ever get any more reviews, considering it's a tiny experimental game. XD

I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Apologies that the window doesn't have an easy resize option in this one. I lost the project file so I wasn't able to go back and add that script. :(

Yeah, I arrived late to the party, still this was very cool. I played it to see all the endings and fight all the bosses. I liked both story and combat system, pretty cool!

I'm overjoyed that you had a good time with it. :)

If you go on to play the other games in the setting, I hope you enjoy them just as much. :P

I'm very glad you liked it!

1.44 Floppy Disc Event

I wound up being kind of overwhelmed over the past week or so, and zero inspiration struck in ANY form, especially for something so teeny. x_x

I got nothing. Gratz to everyone else's really creative looking stuff, though. :)

1.44 Floppy Disc Event

I just realized that the reason why my RPGmaker 2000 un-compressed project was under 1.44 mb is because literally none of the RTP is in there.

X) I think I'm in trouble.

I need to figure out how to make it playable without the installer thigny before I can even START trying to make anything...

1.44 Floppy Disc Event

Oh dang, we have two whole weeks to make something.

...Yeah, ok I'm in.

The only issue is, my only compact idea so far is...Not super narrative? It's basically a "one way dungeon crawler" where you send in a party of 3, go until they die, next party of 3 goes, until you are out of characters or you kill the boss.

That...Doesn't really leave much room for character development, especially if I go with the idea of "You get the first strike in all fights, you and the enemy both do stupid high damage. Kill ASAP or be killed" to keep it tight and quick, lol.

1.44 Floppy Disc Event

Hmm...I'm curious and may actually participate in this. I'll see. Not having to make a gamepage for the game is a plus, honestly, at it means I don't need to make something that's worth keeping on my permanent record of games, haha.

Edit: ...HUH. My last RPGmaker 2000 game (The Heroes That Nobody Asked For) which is like an hour long isn't even 1.44 megs uncompressed. ...Now I'm REALLY tempted to participate.

I'm ashamed I missed this game when it came out. I'm still not sure when I'll be able to end my current RPG Maker hiatus, but I wanted to let you know your games deserve all the attention they can get, and much more. Rock on, dude!

:) Thanks pal. The game will be waiting for whenever you have time, and I'm sure you'll totally love it. It's some of my best work, and has loads of the stuff you're previously enjoyed. :P

Hello. I want to report an eventing bug at the very beginning. When I attempt to go down, the event where I'm supposed to fight 2 spiders repeats itself, which also happens after the second fight with 3 spiders. I think a second event is supposed to trigger after I step on that tile with the event starting point. I play on Discord difficulty btw.

Wait what the- No way, really?! If you walk back during the tutorial/intro you re-see the tutorial fight scenes?!

*checks* OH MY GODS ITS REAL.

I...How did that bug survive like 6 major updates?! I'm actually massively embarrassed by such a rookie bug! :o That's getting fixed first thing after work tomorrow!

Also, best of luck with Discord Difficulty, especially if it's your first time playing the game. It's BRUTALLY hard even by my standards for the hardest possible mode. ;) Don't feel bad if you ever want to switch off, Fury's Path is still plenty challenging and is my own preferred difficulty to play on.

Edit: Aaaaand it's fixed.

How to avoid becoming precious with an early project?

Also, you can always update your short event game later and make it better.

The first thing I released for this site was for an event and while it was pretty functional...It had a lot of issues.

I went back like 4 times to make it better. Replacing random encounters, adding more visual flair so you could tell what was happening, adding new bosses, etc.

Yes, getting it right on the first try and having the game be great on release, or great within the first month or so after release feels the best, but it doesn't HAVE to be that way.

Or maybe it's just a "me" thing. I've learned how to tell my more perfectionist-y tendencies "Alright, that's enough. It's done. Done but imperfect is better than perfect but never released"

[Poll] RPG Maker users: Which engine do you use the most these days?

I used to work exclusively in VX Ace, which is honestly a fantastic engine and I can't tell you how happy I was to discover I had control over damage formulas and status effects. Seriously, it was such a step up from RMXP.

Now, I've migrated over to MV completely (aside from my one remaining long-term project in VXAce). MV is pretty much just "Ace, but more" at this point, and the whole 3D Plugin is just beautiful and I love it.

Not to mention, FINALLY, a character creator tool that's ACTUALLY good. Praise Mod, you have no idea how fantastic it is to have that.

I don't see myself moving to MZ for quite some time. I'm more than happy with MV, and I hope I can actually get more stuff out in it.

As for the other engines, I've poked around them enough to get a feel for them, and...

2K and 2K3 are just too oldschool and limiting for me (ESPECIALLY 2K. Just the one short game I made in it was already really tricky to design), and RMXP, while pretty, feel VERY gimped in the combat engine department compared to VXAce and newer.
