AEGIX_DRAKAN'S PROFILE

About me:

Pun loving Canadian, friendly neighbourhood "Ace", and Narrative Designer at Nine Dots Studios.

I've been a huge fan of RPGs (especially turn based ones) since I was young, and it warms my hearts to be able to make RPGs that other people can enjoy.

I thrive on crafting stories that others enjoy, as well as finely tuning combat to be challenging, but fair.

List of RPG_Maker games with Dark Skin Main or Support Characters

Never saw any of the good games with any in them, Dark Skin, Main or Support Characters. Interested if anyone knew any more games,

Might I introduce you to Glories of the Hunt?

https://rpgmaker.net/games/11688/

One of the four protagonists is dark skinned in this game I made. While he's not the focus of the story, he's one of the main characters and has plenty of great moments. :)

I'd have had dark skinned people earlier in the series, but I did not have the art for them. Thank the mods for MV's fantastic character creation tool!

especially any that were low rated with mostly no downloads.

...Welp, that's not Glories of the Hunt. XD It's got 150-some odd downloads and one 5/5 review that I still can't get over receiving.

Bro how you gonna get people to play your game if they ain't even know it exists? Sheesh, you kids...

This is why I'm a Narrative Designer and not in marketing! XD

I hate feeling like I'm pestering people!

The site disallows users to click on the "Nominate" button on gamepages they are listed as "developer" or "lead" on. However, that's not to say you cannot raise awareness of your game in this thread, and put it forward as a possible nomination for others. In fact, such activity is encouraged!

:o T-this is ALLOWED?!?! Even encouraged?!

Well then I guess I'll...*ahem*

So, I made Glories of the Hunt this year for the 50 Days of Diversity event.

It's a relatively short (2 to 3 hours) game, where the heroine (and her girlfriend, hunting dog, and a gunslinging scholar) hunts down the Dragon that destroyed her home and family. Seeking closure, justice, and revenge, the four of them head off into the wild to face our heroine's deepest fear and trauma, and bury it.

Combat is done ATB style, with a secondary "Glory" mechanic that lets you build up to pull off epic moves without using up your turn, so you can overcome the monstrously strong enemies and bosses in your way.

I think it's got some of my combat system design to date, and it's probably my best narrative work. I really love the characters I created, and some of their scenes still tug at my heart even though I wrote them myself.

Although it's the third game in a setting I've used before, it's a standalone game. Although if you're played those, it's got some startling implications for the setting, and continues a thread started in the previous one.

I am still super thrilled that the one review for it sits at a 5/5. :) Never thought I'd see that happen, honestly.

Slimes is great, but I remember voting for it last year - it was a 2019 finalist...

It was just a demo then.

I am shocked, SHOCKED, that I haven't seen Slimes mentioned here (or maybe my exhaustion has blinded me).

(Ok, WOW, the youtube video link thingy just will not cooperate with me tonight!)
https://youtu.be/8mc6gvwO968

It had a demo last year, but the actual release was this year.

Now, granted, it's the only full game I've played on this site this year, but it's the only RPGmaker game I've played thus far (ever) that I've felt comfortable giving a flawless score to.

The art is stunning,

The combat makes VERY clever use of a very limited set of enemies and no stat gains, but manages to feel like it intensifies as you progress,

And the story...My goodness the story. It's brutally dark at times, with moments of humor here and there, and it leads to the most cathartic ending I've played in a longass while.

I don't give perfect scores easily. There's always something I can nitpick, or something I can say needed to be a little better to warrant a perfect score.

With Slimes, the handful of small issues I had with it (you have to manually use the reload skill between rights, etc) were small enough that I could not justify knocking any points off.

The fact it only has 58 downloads is shocking to me. It deserves more. So much more. <3

I took a suggestion from peoples opinions about Ruby Radiance and tried to change up NPC's dialogue a bit throughout the game. One NPC in Platina drops the hint!

So there IS something you can do with that place! :o

I never really went back to it after finishing the game, and now you've got me curious to see if I can crack the puzzle this time.

Death's Door / Last Stand Mechanic (RMMV)

You might be able to make it by giving characters a perma-state at the start of each fight that makes them Immortal (it's an option in the state system), boost them back up to 1HP if they hit 0, and then remove that state, making them killable if they take any more damage?

There's probably more finnicky stuff to do to make it fully work (like making all healing spells put the Immortal-granting state back on, etc), but it's not a bad start.

I think there might be a conditional Passive State plugin that Yanfly made that might be able to do the "You always have it, turn it off once you take a fatal hit" thing more or less automatically, not 100% sure though.

Heresies of Discord Review

Thank you for the review! These are pretty fair criticisms, even a few make me clutch my heart and go "ow". :)

That one clue being too hard to see in that dark room is especially valid. My apologies.

As for the story...I get your gripe. It's definitely a controversial narrative choice that more than one person has told me they didn't like.

I'm interested enough in the bits that did grab me to try out Glories of the Hunt next to see what kind of improvements were made since then

I think you'll enjoy it considerably more. For one thing, the ATB pauses when you take an action, and it's loaded with more clever skill combos.

For another, knowing lore from previous games enhances the lore found in the other games.

And finally, every important interactible thingy has a blinky circle over it in that game, so you're much less likely to miss anything important.

I also promise you the story will be more satisfying. :)
