[RM2K3] Steam version or Tsukuru?

Actually, doing a Materia System isn't that impossible. If you make a custom menu and events you can actually work around things: slots, AP, spell learning, commands and summons, all those can be made with Skill Learning commands, switches and variables.

It is a lot of work though

What is however much more of challenge is making the status modifiers of the materias, especially since they are based on percentages. While making the status modification itself is actually rather simple, keeping track of it with changing levels and equipment seems a bit too hard.

I've been curious about it myself, though: I always thought VX Ace an MV were essentially superior in every sense to older makers such as 2003, especially since I always assumed scripting allowed you to pretty much bend the game and how it went, meaning if you were using older makers such as the official releases of 2000 and 2003 was because you just chose something simpler or wanted an old school approach.

I mean, personally am using 2003 because I really don't like the VX Ace graphics (personal thing, nothing else) and I have absolutely no idea how to script and feel I wouldn't be able to fully use the newer makers, not to mention I wouldn't be able to produce a game that could actually hold itself in the many ones made nowadays by entire teams and all that.

Anime for someone who doesn't really 'like' anime.

Hajime no Ippo, as was already mentioned.

Samurai Afro: This one is more like an action movie, it's even english only (with Samuel L. Jackson voicing the titular Samurai Afro). Though it's pretty dark and depressing by pitting dark shades of gray vs darker shades of gray.

Rurouni Kenshin: Granted it has a very japanese humor and has some over the top comedy, but that's mostly at the beginning. Once the story kicks in it's downright amazing and the main character is one of the most well written in manga and anime (IMHO of course.)

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure: You need the right mindset with this one. Keep in mind it's an adaptation of an 80s manga and the first part is rather weak. It's over the top, it's campy... but man you'll be hard pressed to find something more enjoyable and fun out there. As the name indicates it has all sort of crazy over the top stuff going on: vampire Jack the Ripper, sun powered martial arts, Cyborg Nazis, crazy protagonists, battles that rely on clever moves and tricks rather than just overpowering opponents, etc.

Makoto Shinkai's movies. They are pretty emotional and well written. Not so much fun as genuinely good, though be prepared for many sad moments and bittersweet endings.

Gundam Iron Blooded Orphans. I know very little of Gundam, but I heard this series is back in shape on a serious intense war story Gundam series. Especially after the more kid oriented Builders Series.

[RM2K3] Making a Double Item and Dual Cast battle commands?

Beats me. I was surprised as well that the character simply loses the turn. Though if it doesn't work I did thought of an alternative... but have to try it first.

EDIT: Ok, nevermind. I thought I could make 2 consecutive spells in the battle via event commands but turns out I can't cast spells via events.

Also, the help file actually states the Action Times + command only works with Attacks and Skills, but doesn't mention items.

EDIT 2: My issue with making a menu based on Text Choices is that it has no way of discerning what items I actually currently have or what spells the characters actually know, meaning it will have access to everything or an arbitrary selection.

[RM2K3] Making a Double Item and Dual Cast battle commands?

I guess I can make casting or using an item twice in a row. But is it possible to use the commands twice to select different items or spells? Kinda like, Dualcast to use a heal and then an attack spell?

[RM2K3] Making a Double Item and Dual Cast battle commands?

I've been trying to do so with the "Action Times +" event command in the battles. However it doesn't work out. What I am trying to do is to have special commands that allow you to use two items or cast two spells. What I tried was to have a battle event that was activated when the "2x Item" or "Dualcast" commands were used (both are switch commands), however all that happens is that the character loses her turn. I am pretty sure I am doing something wrong. So, is it possible to make a way to use two items or two spells in a single turn via battle events or other way?

EDIT: With more experimenting I could get that a command that activates an action time + will have effect the next turn of the character. Attack and Magic work fine, but items don't seem to be useable in succession, even with the event.

Thanks in advance,

[RM2K3] Need help with a step counting common event.

It does. Thanks. I made that very same event, found a very old tutorial searching with google that listed the same structure. It did advice to make a "Wait" command at the end in order to avoid lagging the game.

Though it didn't mention to use different events to divide the tasks, I'll give a shot with that.

Thanks for the help!

So many things, so much work

I think your best bet when you're programming a tedious part of the game is stop and work on a different one. At least that's what I do when I am bored with something specific, to avoid falling in the "I'm not having fun with it anymore" problem and be dangerously close to abandoning the project.

If you need any help let me know. I'll be glad to lend a hand. =)

[RM2K3] Need help with a step counting common event.

Thanks. Perhaps I'll give it a shot after I'm done with the current game. I did consider moving on but I am a bit too far in to start over.

Yeah. Especially since I started with Ace and went backwards haha.

Lol, for me it was the opposite in a way: I started with 2000, then I tried using Ace and couldn't get the grasp of it at all, much less the scripting, so I just returned to the old relics for simpletons like me XD
