I don't understand people who get mad at bad reviews for their games.

I mean, the whole point of a review is the tell a person what you think of their game, so you can make it better. Why would you get mad about a person's input on what to improve or not?

Some people can't take criticism (they are touchy/feely) ... and put too much emphasis on the rating rather than the review itself! Not to mention some reviewers do so out of spite.
because for some designers, their game is their perfect magnum opus brainchild. they've gone the entire course of its development under the impression that it's the best thing they could possibly make, and so the idea that there's room for improvement seems insulting. basically, it's all a matter of becoming too personally invested in your game -- and it can be an easy trap to fall into, sometimes!

e: edchuy, when a review happens out of spite it's obvious to everyone -- not just the game's creator! it happens way less than you think. most of the time it's just the creator's hurt feelings making the perceived tone that much worse.
It’s basically like mawk said; some people think that their game is the greatest and bestest out of everyone because of how much time and enthusiasm they spent on making it only to find that the transition from creator to player doesn’t always work out. The creator may think it’s the best thing going but, ultimately, it’s the audience that determines whether it’s a success or not.

But thank god for the professor!

He knows what he’s talking about.
yeah, most of the time it's down to real-ass shock and disappointment, all kinds of things the developer hadn't been expecting. from there, it's all about how you engage with those feelings -- do you own them, or do you try to pass them off onto other people?

'you are not your game' is a very good thing to remember, I think! when someone criticizes your work, they're usually only criticizing the results -- they're not throwing shade on your actual ability to produce. the act of reviewing alone shows that they think you can do better.
