Does anyone remember GamingGroundZero? (Remembering GamingGroundZero)

Wow going into this thread has been some crazy nostalgia. I've been reading site names I haven't seen anyone else write in such a long time! I'm one of the old hats, so I actually remember going to most of these sites man.

A few posts up someone mentioned Dark Dominion - this is pretty interesting and an interesting story. Because this site eventually became Dev Empire - which eventually also failed but at one point I had wound up with the sites files! As in the actual code for the site.

I was never really active on Gaming Ground Zero but I remember mining it for ideas and just generally browsing it. As others have stated, I distinctly remember Wishmoo being very controversial - but this is likely also due to the fact that I was active on RPG2knet, where I think the drama originated between the users there! Actually was Graming Ground Zero a splinter off of RPG2knet? I seem to remember Wishmoo having been an admin there originally. Wouldn't have been the last site to splinter off of that one - I admined at another for quite awhile, Blade2k.

Theres a bunch of other smaller sites that have been basically all but forgotten. I see a few users from the now and then (looking at you Gretgor) like Ultima Island, and then RPGFreeze, and a handful of other small sites that sprung up and vanished. All of the large sites from that time period are gone or just kind of a shell of their former selves (i.e. Salt World, and the fake2knet forums)

What age range are the characters in your games?

Well, the main character of my current project is twelve, and I never stopped to think about it up to this point, but she only interacts with adults throughout the entire game. Is this creepy?
No, that's just a character forced to exist in a world that they're not ready for. That's a solid premise for an adventure story.

Now, it might be creepy if your main character is 35 and he only interacts with middle schoolers throughout the entire game. Unless it's a game about being a teacher or parent. But like, imagine a version of Metal Gear Solid where every single character is 10-12 years old except for Solid Snake. Otacon and Ocelot are both fifth graders. Vamp and Raiden and the Colonel are fourth graders. All the nameless enemy soldiers are preteens too. The End is an eighth grader, and if you wait long enough, he graduates to high school and you win the fight against him. Even Big Boss is a 12 year old version of Solid Snake, making the whole cloning timeline thing even more impossibly convoluted. But Snake is still in his thirties and just goes through the game acting like all of this is normal.

So, an anime, then.

As for my projects, it's pretty wide but I don't generally include child characters.

Delayed teaser

Do you move any slower on the ladder? You might wanna consider it? At first glance I thought the character was moonwalking down a hallway. I like everything I've seen of this so far, though.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

Alright, a bit of an update & a description - I sent spik a message on facebook asking permission to post it.

A blob tale itself is a pokemon-esque game made in rm2k where you play as a blob trainer. It's got custom menus & a custom battle system that features some QTE's for abilities. It's got a wardrobe system. As far as I can tell - those systems all work. The game was never completed however, only a demo was released. Now as I said in my previous post the version I have is the most up-to-date dev one.

Edit: Yep, I got permission to post it. I'll edit this post again later with the game.

Edit 2: A Blob Tale - I believe this requries the RM2k RTP as a side note.

Old/Lost RpgMaker Games - SegNin's Rare/Obscure RM Games Request Topic

Hello friends, been a while since I've been on here.

I went through my own personal quest to find an old game recently - A blob's Tale by Spik & Crazy_GuY - I managed to track it down after a bunch of effort (eventually culminating in my messaging Spik on Facebook after my search yielded no results) If there's any interest, I could ask them if it'd be okay to post up the files I was given. Though there'd need to be a big caveat on this as the version I was given was the most recent one that was in development - and not something that was ever really meant to see public release. - I had to go into the game and make it so that the party start position wasn't on the Debug map, for instance. I'm not even sure if it all works properly.

What are you thinking about right now?

I don't know, I feel like it's always been a problem within the different RPGmaker communities. There's always been kind of a underlying current of hostility towards people that think a different way, or present an opinion that doesn't agree with what they said. Or the absolute belief in their own beliefs to the point of hostility.

That's kind of always been the lay of the land, fam. In the threads I've looked around in, this still stands true.

MV vs 2003 for 16-Bit Aesthetic

If there are indeed performance issues with MV, then it is almost certainly does not have anything to do with the rendering of graphics, you're right. The slowdown would come from poorly optimized systems other than that - things that execute the scripts etc.

Also, just because something should be able to run without slow down doesn't mean it does.

But honestly, I would suggest if you have the income for it giving the various engines a try, because honestly some of them don't support things without a ton of modification via scripts and vice versa. Change is good, while sometimes for others the changes are bad. In other words: It's up for you to decide after giving them a try. But do keep others advice in mind.

[RM2K3] Old Hat, Old Tricks..New Tricks? Some kind of tricks.

Hello; It's been several years, hasn't it? Or maybe a little less - I seem to remember posted a while back in the rare games thread, but I didn't really return.

Some of you may remember me, if you do - congratulations, you're really old! Most of you likely won't. So to you new faces, hello! I spent a lot of time when I was younger really getting into the guts and trenches of RM2k3, and since the western version was released I finally bought it. Figured it was only right to buy something I had dedicated so much of my time to growing up.

As for what I've contributed in the past game wise...nothing, really. I had a handful of tech-demos that never made it this way, and I did a bunch of remapping for a friends game at the time . But other than that I don't think I really did much beside occasionally post screenshots and maybe offer some help or advice occasionally.

These are great videos. I approve!

Now to watch more of these Alter.. Aila, is it? More of those videos.
You should go ahead and play the game too.
Yeah, I might. I'm a little on the fence about it though, because I usually don't enjoy sci-fi RPGs.
I wouldn't classify it as sci-fi, really. Sci-fi is more of those shooting lasers and going into outer space and such (Star Wars and Star Trek), but Alter Aila Genesis isn't exactly of that sort (except probably closer to the end)...Using guns to shoot thugs and all and being in slums isn't sci-fi... (As Neok defines it, it's set in a post-apocalyptic world, which is different from sci-fi). You really ought to try it :0 You won't regret it.

(And to add on to that, I hate sci-fi too.)

Cyber-Punk?? :x
