Not to get anyone's hopes up
not that anyone who'd care is still around
but I'm checking back into this game, and possibly reviving/rewriting my old project. It's been a while and I know I've already said that once before, but this time I hopefully actually mean it.

But first I'll need to play literally every route to root out all the OCD things like shared character themes.

What's this? BasedMG, back from the dead?...but I can't realistically look at it and say I'm content with what kind of story what would write

Tl;dr: Should I go heavy on the drama and issues, or lay it back more and focus on the kind of slice-of-lifey romance that Heartache is known for?**

Cheers!

**That's not to say Heartache doesn't have character conflicts, but it seems they're a bit more subdued than the kind I was going to write.
You're alive!

Write the type of story that you'd want to read if it were published. You say you're not content with a heavily dramatic story... so why do you still have that as an option? If you dislike it, don't write it. Plain and simple.

If you're worried that someone won't like a dramatic story, don't be. That someone can just uninstall and read something else. The people who are interested in that will be there to read it.

Good advice, to be sure. It's more than likely just me making excuses for not posting for half a year. I think I might need to re-acquaint myself with Heartache before trying again. Time to dust off the old RPG Maker player and run it 100% again. Probably also a good idea to run the dlc routes so I don't step on anyone's toes with my own. Write the route I'd want to read, but if that route's already written there's no point, is there? :P

What's this? BasedMG, back from the dead?

I was browsing through my old Kotone tachie while trying to come up with a less cluttered angle for her, and I saw something I never thought I'd see again. Before I show you, however, I'd like to set the mood.

It's late at night, and you've been working hard on writing your story; putting together code, and extensive playtesting to make sure it works. You decide to spice up a certain scene by adding a "shadowed" version of the character to be revealed after the initial shock of "bumping into" that character. So you open up her tachie, take the neutral pose, and put in a black mask over the character. It looks good and fine in your editor, so you save it and import it straight into the game. You play until you reach the scene, and this pops up on your screen.

I still don't want to look at it. Gave me quite the scare when I first saw it. In regards to actual route progress, I believe I've half-heartedly mentioned some idea of starting Kotone over from scratch, and I still wish to write her story. My only problem is that I don't know what story I want to tell with her yet. I originally wanted to portray the story of a girl who was struggling with way too much for any regular teenager to deal with. On top of familial issues and a somewhat crippling insomnia, Kotone also had to deal with the prospect of not graduating second year with the rest of her class, as well as maintaining her part-time job so she could make money enough to leave the familial issues. And if <player> were to screw up their relationship, there would be the fourth worry of not being able to trust the one you love.

Needless to say, I had a lot of ideas for the character that I felt were just stacking up way too high. I like the insomnia angle, but adding in insomnia just to have it makes it seem like I'm trying to write for Katawa Shoujo forcing something just to have a "unique" character. I feel like she needs the depth that all those problems brought, but I can't realistically look at it and say I'm content with what kind of story what would write. I feel like I tend to circle around issues rather than address them head on, so it would help me greatly if I had some feedback on how I should pursue the route.

Tl;dr: Should I go heavy on the drama and issues, or lay it back more and focus on the kind of slice-of-lifey romance that Heartache is known for?**

Cheers!

Also, HI BASEDMG! HOW'S THAT KOTONE DOING?

AUGH

It's doing terribly. I'm having something of an existential crisis in regards to her route and I'm thinking of axing a few things entirely and starting fresh. Very little about her personality will change, but I'm probably going to give her story an overhaul. I just feel like I'm trying to shove as many plot points as I can into her story and it's going to break apart further down the line.

I'm also thinking of taking out the Club events to reduce file size and trim some of the fat, but that's up to you guys to decide whether or not you want the conditional club events to stay.

I got a scene with those three, but like you said I'm not sure if it's the one you're referring to.

So I decided to give the DLC characters a try since I haven't given them any love yet. I unlocked Noriko's ending, but ended up with Shoko because apparently her affection score was higher. Funny, that. Anyway, I'm probably going to try again, this time stripping out the characters I don't want to pursue.

Anyway, the reason I wanted to write this post is because Noriko is fcuking adorable. That's all.

But the prologue said that the school were divided in a male (north) and female (south) wing.

The line that says the school is divided also mentions that there are some exceptions to the rule, but what might cause such an exception is up to the content creator. I haven't played Uchioniko or Yuu's routes in depth, so I can't give any examples save for Kotone's. The game mentions that there are some classes the boys take in the girl's wing and vice versa, so Kotone's found asleep after the previous class, after one such switch.

I realize it's been a month since my last post, so I'm dropping in to say that progress has been incredibly slow. My parents have dropped the hammer hard regarding finding a job, so I haven't had much time to write. Add that to general writer's block and a pinch of laziness and you've got yourself a recipe for "I haven't worked on anything Kotone-related in the past month" salad.

That said, she will see the light, it'll just take a long time. I'm fairly certain I mentioned this in my last post, though, so I'm not worried about disappointing anyone (yet).

Edit: I think most of my issues with writing her are where to take her story. I may have gotten in over my head with all the planned plot elements and how to incorporate them in a timely, realistic fashion.

So, I'm currently in that limbo where I want to write for Kotone but I can't seem to get any ideas or thoughts onto the proverbial paper. I'm not abandoning the project by any means, it's just going to take a bit lot longer for me to get her route done. I apologize for any inconveniences this causes, but rest assured I haven't forgot about our resident sleepy pianist~
