Tell you about myself? well I'm an easy-going care-free Person who's living his dream... I wish :P

I started working with rmxp as a hobby & now I've been working on my project Perplexia for awhile but at the moment it's the last thing on my priorities' (imaginery) page, I welcome constructive criticism & thrive on it & although the game is moving along slowly; it is moving along :-)

Last but not least I'd like to say that I'm pretty good with the english language but It's not my native language, so if you see any grammer/spelling mistakes please correct me ^^

I agree with what nickad said & I think The bed is too big for the character (unless he's supposed to be a dwarf) & the window is too high (unless it's a prison window).

The Puppet Review

Sorry for the late reply, I think it took me around 3 hours to finish the demo & it's been quite interesting; Rei- is really good & I think now that he's more experienced you can expect his next game to be better than this one

I'm actually surprised at the lack of Response for this topic, then again it is a canceled project so that may be a factor.

Although I did tell Rei about this I thought it'd be good to post this here, so here goes:

First let's get the Downs out of the way... The intro was too long & & not that interesting & when you're done with the intro you can not save right after it; in fact you have to go through a dungeon & actually "look around" for a semi-hidden save point. The other thing that's not really good in this game is the grammar but of course that's because this demo is old & Rei has gotten a lot better since then.

Now on to the good stuff... I actually liked the story & I think it can be very interesting if Rei decided to work on it now that he's gotten better; it starts off weak but when you get further into the game it gets interesting.

The dungeon & the puzzles were the best part of The Puppet aside from the Spikes I liked most of them, especially the Gargoyles .

The battles were ok, nothing special about them but seeing as how it was the beginning of the game you couldn't have gotten into the more deep & complex battles , I didn't want to battle any monsters because most of them was just a waste of time... hmm why did I put this in the good stuff section? this should go in the So-so section.

Last but not least I gotta say I only got past the first village & I really want to continue the demo when I have the time just to see what happens next.

I actually used a lot of scripts in my game & made a lot of modifications on most if not all of them, so if you're just asking about the main battle script it's cogwheel's RTAB script. I'll list the others when I make a new demo :)

Release Something! V - Discussion Thread

First of all thank you for your C&C.
Perplexia:
Skills are absolutely worthless. Here's the process of using them:
1) When your turn comes around you use Focus which ends your turn (but you are defending whil your next turn comes around)
2) Select skill which requires MP
3) Wait for skill to be used which takes about another turn
4) Go back to 1
I actually made this demo in a hurry so I didn't have time to explain how you could benefit from the skills fully , & that every weapon does more or less damage depending on the foe.

For each one of those actions you could attack and the two skills you have available to you are triple attack for the character who attacks twice anyways (although the third hit does do double so its comparable to two attacks) or a double attack. And it costs MP. The only time a skill was useful (before I quit) was Jack's triple strike against scorpions since each hit did >4 damage when it came from triple strike instead of a regular attack.
I re-did the whole database before uploading the last version & believe it or not the game was way harder compared to the new database. but if I get a lot of comments on this I'll make the skills hit for more but that's not implimented in this demo at the moment.

Enemies hit pretty hard too. After the first fight (when I was still figuring stuff out) I ended up almost completely out of MP from healing. At level 1 Hellhounds do ~25 damage to characters with 100/130 HP with the chance to critical and come in packs of two. After the first fight I avoided the rest until I got to a healing pond so I wouldn't die in my second encounter of the game.
That's actually my bad since I forgot to mention the basilisks are easier than the hellhounds (Temp names btw, will change them later) & you could use focus up to 3 times to increase all your stats except for PDef & MDef. I'll include a tutorial & a help menu in the next demo.

There's a few chests that say they give you a Arthia Leaf but you get a Arthia Red Leaf, wrong icon 'n all.

After several deaths by swords (I kept trying to move down after a successful jump) I got a recursion error:

I got it again during a regular fight too:

That's weird ... I didn't get anything like that; except maybe if you used F12 to restart the game. Announcement: Please don't use F12 to restart the game.

This is a short demo of my first game.

Story:
Jack is a young man who's uncertain about a lot of things & his indicision proves to be his biggest enemy.

Battle Mechanics:
1- Skills: You can learn Skills from various Schools upon progressing through the story.
Skills require you to be focused in order to use them & they upgrade with use.
2- EMS: You can purchase (Elemental Magic Stones) from EMS shops, There are Rare EMS not available in shops.
3- Rage: Used when the Rage bar is full. Upgrades with use.
4- Focus: This command replenshes a little EP, Increases your focus Level & Makes you defend.

What does it take for you to work on your games?

I guess at first I thought I could make a good game & had a good idea, then reality struck me ... channeling your idea into an interesting readable story is really hard!
& I'm a good mapper but I HATE mapping.

Being a perfectionest is both a Blessing & a Curse at the same time :(
