I need help. I'm looking for inspirations for a game I'm making. Anybody able to point me to some good life simulation games, particularly those that do things like relationships, time systems, stats and story-based games that involve choice?

At the moment, I'm inspired by games in the vein of the Flash game Stick RPG, conversational Visual Novels, Telltale games like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us, and Cart Life. I have heard that Persona 4 is a great introduction to this, but I'm also looking for other games in this same vein. Would anyone be able to help me?

Also, you pretty much described the game I'm currently working on.

Ah yes. I should have figured there's bound to be some overlap when we both want to work in the simulation genre. I remember you talking a while ago about a Sim City-like corruption sim you wanted to create. That seemed like an interesting idea then, but this therapy game (or is therapy only a part of the game?) you're producing now looks very promising.
Well, there's this weird Russian game called Pathologic. It's got a day/night cycle, you need to eat, drink and sleep, and the story constantly presents you with choices.

Might be right up your alley:

Princess Maker 2.

Possibly the other PMs I've only played the one. But it's a hell of a lot of fun.

Those little cars are the bomb
Crusader Kings 2 is the ultimate life/relationship simulator. Probably a different more procedural approach though.

Thanks Sidewinder for recommending Pathologic. I had a quick skim through that video and it gives me some ideas. It makes a valiant attempt at fusing hunger and thirst mechanics with story and time systems, but from the looks of things I don't think it quite fuses these different elements very well. Still, it seems like a game that would be interesting to try.

As for Princess Maker 2, I didn't expect to see a calendar and planning of your day, which is a gameplay element I was thinking of including. This will prove very useful! Thanks, Sooz.

I have actually played and finished The Game of Life (not the board game) but thanks for recommending, Altered. It is somewhat inspirational.

Crusader Kings 2 is a really cool-looking game. It seems to tell its own story through procedurally generated details that are filled by a majorly massive amount of mechanics, kind of like Dwarf Fortress 2. I probably take most inspiration from how the stats tell a story themselves. Also it just looks like a neat game to get into. Gracias, Shinan.

I feel like Rune Factory 4 is definitely hitting some vein of what I'd like to go for, especially with the vast variety of dialogue trees available. Probably at a much smaller scale, but with the same sense of emphasis on story and time-based simulation. Thanks much, Sooz.

Ok, these are more ordinary life games than games with everyday mechanics such a hunger:

One Night Stand
- I haven't played it yet, but it has choices and its quite popular.
Kimmy - A really inspiring piece. You improve relations by playing games with other kids. Also, you have a budget.
Emily is Away - I think you might have played this one.
Always Sometimes Monsters - you need to work odd jobs to earn money to continue your journey. It contains choices, money management and many clunky RMish minigames.
Electric File Monitor - I can't run it on Linux, but it looks paper pleasant.
