lmao dude. i am going to assume this is serious because i hate the modern internet environment where the universal assumption is that someone is 'trolling'.
did the possibility that barkley was widely publicized due to merits it has besides GREAT VIDEO GAME NICE BATTLES ever occur to you? people are capable of appreciating things on multiple levels, which is why, despite it being a 'genuinely bad game' in your estimation, other human beings were able to derive 'genuine' entertainment from its novel brand of comedic writing.
like, i cannot understand what you want. would it have been less an injustice for you if some dragon quest game with A+ balance (great gameplay lol) were covered in the media instead? is that inherently a superior form of entertainment which unequivocally deserves recognition over other types of products and/or creative endeavors? sorry bud, but this article is dumb and putting barkley in the same boat as columbine massacre is ignorance or stupidity

If the aim in this thread was to keep anybody from wanting to post about potentially serious projects on RMN ever again then I think you guys did a great job
If you want to recruit an army of artists to work for free by posting on a forum, show something tangible like a youtube clip of your game engine with placeholder resources or something. Not 'here is a text file of all my cool features'. When you have nothing solid to show it comes off as 'I need a bunch of people to make my game for me', which has happened many times in the history of RM Help and Request forums across the internet, hence the negative reaction.

RPG Maker provides an opportunity for those who have a desire to create audiovisual storytelling media but not the skills or means to produce television, movies, or professional games. Art is about communication, and the graphics, sprites, and music used are just a means to convey your creative intent to your audience, whether somebody else made them or not. They're just set pieces. Yeah, it would be ideal if everyone had the skills or money to make all this themselves, but not everyone wants to invest that kind of time or capital into it. Some people just want to communicate a story visually and aurally to an audience regardless of the means. Plus, nobody is hiding that their graphics are from Tales of Phantasia - it's obvious to everyone.
That is why using 'ripped' graphics is not plagiarism, nor is it wrong if you are not selling the product. It is a facilitator for those who would be writers and directors but aren't. 'Ripping' a story, however, is a totally different thing. That's where you lose the sole factor that ennobles the use of premade resources. You are no longer using these set pieces as a means to communicate the dialogue and scenes you have storming about in your mind. The justification for using them is gone. When all the graphics, sprites, music, and engine have been provided, and you haven't used them to convey original notions, you are engaging in a pointless exercise and doing it just for some cheap notoriety. You are rendering the wonderful thing about RPG Maker, the sole redeeming factor, inert. That is plagiarism. Don't do it. Use this amazing tool you have been provided with to tell the world a story they may otherwise have never seen.
