Basically allowing someone to use your IP unofficially runs the risk of opening the floodgates for other to legally do the same. There are numerous companies that actively look for loopholes like this, hence why tobyfox had to impose merch restrictions when Undertale first blew up, for instance.

I think it's the eventual endgame of capitalism.

To be overly fair to them, there's a kind of problem in copyright law where you need to enforce your personal copyright claims or else you risk having less control over future uses. It's sort of a wiggly area, but I can't blame a company for wanting tight control on their property, even though that also ends up being super douchey to fans. It's a really sticky question, because there's no 100% right answer on either side.

Well, they fired all the people who care about the company and replaced them with people who plan to be gone in a year. So they aren't particularly concerned with the backlash or the damage to the company's reputation, only with this quarter's sales, which go up the more things they release.

that sounds very american style

You're magical to me.

Yeah, the Squaresoft I once loved is long dead and this is just another attempt to wring cash from its corpse ;_;

I'd really like to get rid of LockeZ. His play style is way too unpredictable. He's always like this too. If he ran a country, he'd just kill and imprison people at random until crime stopped.

Is pillarboxing so anathema to some people?

unfortunately, yes, a lot of people will shriek incoherently at any amount of unused screenspace
that twitter links a "widescreen" prototype and that looks awful too! Is pillarboxing so anathema to some people?
The thing that gets me is that you didn't really have to do anything extra to port this, leave the filters alone keep the pixel aspect ratio good and it's a passable straight port at best. I guess the phone -> PC mouse interface is pretty shit so it takes effort to undo that.

Clearly this must be why CT wasn't included on the SNES Classic

this is a PC port of the mobile game, which was a port of the DS game, which was a port of the Playstation game, which was a port of the SNES game.

It's ports all the way down.
Unannounced port comes out of nowhere and no UI shown in the Steam screenshots.

They know what they did.
They made a quick buck for this shitload of fuck

For the same reason spam emails put in only the lowest amount of effort: There's less money put in, and enough people are uncritical and spend money on it that they make a profit.
mostly money, probably.
