Ye Olde Ancient Screenshots Topique

Back in 2009, I completed three sets of user made levels for a game called Dr. Lunatic Supreme with Cheese.

Realm Duels was basically an all-combat world that featured a gimmick to each battle.

Here's one of the bonus levels where you're fighting against a small spider that shoots explosive energy balls at you.

Realm Duels got a follow up which had the same name but with Xtreme at the end. Same deal, but with slightly more dynamic combat scenarios.

And yes, I even made a scenario where you're fighting against a boulder.

This is from one of the more interesting (IMO) worlds, Aquatic Legacy. The point behind this was to make a set of levels where you could travel underwater (without drowning) and reemerge to the surface to a different land, somewhat similar to BoF1. Now that I brought this up, I kinda wonder what would of happened if I tried to pull something like this in an RPG Maker program. XD

Whatchu Workin' On? Tell us!

Edit: Skie already tested the prototype only to have crash on her computer.

@Skie: Thanks for letting me know so I can make sure it doesn't crash period.

Video thread

Several rants/comments made by Duckman from the animated series of the same name:

Unsurprisingly, this one happens to be my favorite.

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

It seems that the items/gear in my project is going to function similarly to the gear in TF2, at least in regards to the items having different properties that aren't of the +3 to Strength camp.

Graphics and the sorts

Yeah, I'm gonna have to side with Ocean and Nessiah on this one.

The general impression I'm getting from those games and this situation in general is that developers have yet to find a way to prove to the masses that "for the love of Odin, this game actually has a story in it" without pursuing the "more cutscenes, less gameplay" camp of design.

Final Fantasy XIII-2.....

*reads FF13-2 article on the FF wikia*

Hmm, I actually like the idea "Blood Damage" has going for it. Preventing a certain amount of health from being restored sounds like it could spice things up a bit.

We'll see about the other aspects.

Research, Mofo, Do You Do It?

Yeah, I do some research on some stuff for my project(s). It's mainly for weapon/armor/spell types, though. The other research is pretty much an "on demand" scenario.

Are classic RPGs still a viable option ?

In regards to classic style RPGs, why limit it to just FF/DQ when you could just as easily emulate classic MS-DOS/PC RPGs like Ultima or Might and Magic and do to them what BoD7 and Cthullu did for the DQ formula.

Dragon Slayer II: Xanadu

I definitely got a kick out of this one mainly because there's limited enemy encounters and they stay killed off for good so there's no infinite grinding in one area.
