DARK GAIA'S PROFILE

I develop games and I write. I have a Bachelor of Arts in creative writing and journalism. I like writing speculative fiction, horror and literary fiction, sometimes all blended together. You can find elements of my writing in my games, because I consider my games to be stories just that happen to have gameplay.

I post updates on my Facebook and Twitter:

Hmm..they're not rpgs, but if you're looking for a horror game then I recommend the One Night trilogy/quad..rilogy? w/e, lol as they're all like the classic Silent Hill/RE/Alone in The Dark games. Worth checking out~ :)
Are the downloads up?

All three of the games are kind of in constant flux since I update and add new features all the time, but the downloads can be found by clicking on my user name -- you can access them pretty easily from my user profile.

The Featured Game Thread

Just popping in to say thanks for the feature, everyone. I wasn't expecting it to be honest, but it was a pleasant surprise! You've inspired me to work on the sequel some more.

CC's Feedback

You're welcome, and thanks for the compliment. The Manual was created in response to a seemingly endless parade of emails asking for puzzle answers. If you get stuck, just take a look at it'll tell you how to solve each puzzle. It's not a walkthrough, though, so the best thing I can advise is keeping a notepad or something handy so that you can keep track of locations to use items/places of interest.

CC's Feedback

Reckon you can try One Night: Full Circle (available here: http://rpgmaker.net/games/1577/? I recently released an overhauled version which I've yet to receive feedback on.

It ain't an RPG, but it's only about two or three hours long, and there are puzzle answers included in the Manual.

Commercial games are not allowed on RMN

What happens if a game is posted on RMN that starts off as a free indie game, but becomes commercial later on? Should its gamepage on RMN still be removed?

NicoB's Let's Tries/Plays! *REQUEST YOUR GAME HERE!*

Hmm, yes, I see. I enjoyed the video up until the point the game crashed, but I'm still lost as to how I can possibly fix that crash. It seems to happen completely at random to different people. Some report it, others don't; some are able to reproduce it and some can't. I personally have tried to trigger it, but I've never had it happen to me, so I assumed it was fixed by now.

It's probably just a matter of me having to update the battle script (though it's already at the latest version :/) though it could also be a compatability issue or something. Ace uses more resources than VX does.

Anyway, I enjoyed it, and I'm glad you seem to be (I think) enjoying the game in spite of the issue.

Also, just so you know, the Techs and Classes were explained in game. There's a drill seargeant at the campsite that you can talk to who tells you about them. The game prompts you to talk to him, and you did in the second video, but you didn't choose to learn about anything and left.

When you try again, might I suggest, if you want a dedicated healer, to give one of your characters the Cleric sub class, and purchase Techs for it. The Techs basically work like items - you buy them, use them on your characters, and they learn the skill. The character's Main Class determines their skills category, stats and equipment options. You can equip a sub class for an additional range of Techs, but you suffer a small statistical penalty to offset this.

You could also give someone the Magus class and buy a spell or two to take out those Slimes more easily.

And if you really want to play around with classes, you can buy items that alter the Threat stat, so you can make dedicated tanks and direct attacks to a specific character.

EDIT: There was a newer version of the CTB script out, so I upgraded to that. I don't know if it will make any difference, but you can redownload if you like and see.

It's actually apparently based on an old PSX game called LSD Dream Emulator. That was essentially the same game, except in 3D and in first person. Yume Nikki had more of a structure to it though, in that there was actually a goal, whereas LSD is just a succession of random dreams without a point (it's unsettling, though).

Hey! I enjoyed the Yume Nikki playthrough (that game confused the hell out of me when I tried it)!

Just letting you know for when you resume Legionwood 2 that I've uploaded a new version. The only thing it fixes is a late game boss using an attack that cuts his stats down to 1. If you intend on going that far and completing the whole beta, you should get it; don't worry otherwise :)

Ah! Yes, upon watching the videos, it does seem that you ARE playing the latest version. I was sure I'd renamed the project in the System tab, but apparently I didn't. Seeing "1.1" in the title bar alarmed me at first, is all, and I didn't have time last night to watch the videos in full.

In any case, I enjoyed both videos, found them hilarious and informative and appreciate the effort. Looking forward to more!

One thing I do really want to change though is the speed at which the text scrolls in the intro. Your video tells me it's way too fast (though it's on Ace's lowest speed setting), so I may end up doing it with Pictures instead.

Hi NicoB.

I noticed you have started on Legionwood 2! I didn't know until now, but I'm going to watch them immediately. Unfortunately, I'm still recovering from a hard drive crash so it will be a week or two until I can get access to the game from my old computer to address any of the criticism (I know there are still some balancing issues with the classes - I really suck at balancing, so things like this Let's Try are helpful), but I appreciate it nonetheless, and thanks!

By the way, you're narration is sufficiently hilarious and I'm really enjoying it. Quite entertaining.

EDIT: I noticed in the videos that you're playing Beta Build 1.1... This is an extremely outdated version! There are a lot of bugs, bad balancing, general issues and lack of polish etc, that you won't be experiencing if you upgrade to the latest version (2.2).
I guess I assumed you'd download the latest one before you began playing, but it's probably my fault since I didn't let you know an updated version was out. I received a fair bit of feedback since I requested the Let's Try and managed to fix up a lot of issues.
Please don't play this version anymore - it really is a very different game, and I'd feel much better if you gave the updated one a try since I feel it's a lot better, and the balancing, combat system and difficulty is a lot less out of whack, not to mention there's a whole new stat (Threat).
