What do YOU like in an RM game?

You know when I'm absolutely positive I can tell I'm going to like the game?

-If the topic is by Craze's standards (in which raises good points why screenshots aren't evil as I make them out to be)
-I get to control the character in less than 5 minutes tops
-The gameplay is declared

What do I mean by gameplay is declared? I'm talking about when the mechanics are obvious and implemented with reason. In Kinetic Cipher, the idea behind battles is that if you don't prepare, you are fucked. Before you enter the first dungeon Brickroad implemented an NPC that not only tells you what you need to prepare, but rewards you for doing it.

Implementing 10 minute tutorials is not a good way to go about this BTW.

Best RM Games you've Ever Played

10. Love and War
9. Zephyrus and the Kingdom of Heaven
8. Three The Hard Way
7. Exit Fate
6. Last Scenario
5. Dawn of Darkness Legends - Nightwish
4. Hero's Realm
3. ABL
2. The Way
1. Kinetic Cipher

Some honorable potentials:

Kindred Saga The characters, dialogue and the way the cut-scenes were molded together. The battle system was just stupid.

Demon Tower Throwing in a shitton of cute typical RPG characters at a boss is fun.

Angel of Exodus I really liked this game especially since its one of the few adventure rm2k/3 games that isn't horror. Also the midnight irish feeling throughout this game was simply beautiful

Diary of a Madman This game gets the horror theme right. And no, not in a way of you playing as a defenseless little girl in some mansion. I mean a grimdark legacy of kain type fantasy world where vampires, necromancers, corruption, and evil are everywhere. Also badass main character.

Prophecy Demon Kingdom for example is fantastic and many people think it rivals The Way.

Shitsux.

Epic Monster Dungeon Explore! 2

Ok a mousie just killed me in one hit, what the fuck.

Demon Tower has thirty floors

Well another FF class game, time to pick my well balanced class of...

IT'S ON

Sprite Work (Old Guy Redone)

I think you need to define your light source a little better, on his chest there's just this slash of light there for no reason. Also the darkening on the lower part of the body seems too straight as well. You should study ball shading and apply it.

Indie vs. Amateur - an article everyone should read

"OH GOD THROW THIS IN, I DON'T CARE IF I HAVE TO COMPLETELY REBALANCE THE GAME OR NOT!1!11!!!!"

I haven't! ... okay maybe once..

Anyway did it ever occur to anyone that you can technically be an amateur indie developer or a professional indie developer? Since when did indie mean anything other than independent? I wasn't notified, no phone call, no email, didn't even get a fucking fax. Why is amateur and indie separate terms here?

FF13 25 min gameplay trailer

Espers in FFVI. Any character can learn any spell, at any time (once you have the appropriate Esper). Sounds a lot like the materia system, no?

I would say that it's more closer to FF8 than the materia system (and even that's a stretch). In FF6 you're linking summons to characters to gain spells and level up with extra attributes. In ff7 you're putting individual spells into weapon slots. But not just spells, you can put in support materia (blue) which have strange effects like counter attack or HP up, or All. There's also yellow materia which allow for more physical skills like steal, sense. There's also the red materia in which summons are basically their own materia and do not give you stat bonuses or spells. But are just really powerful attacks with limited use. On top of this, magic and summon materia make you physically weaker. And all through the game you're basically running around collecting these.

As for the character differences, I guess I could give you that. But then again, Sabin is the only person who can pull off street fighter moves, and Egar is the only one who can chainsaw a monster in half, Shadow who can just throw shit and send his dog after people, Cyan with that weird sword timing thing. And it goes on. As a kid without being too over-analyzing about the systems, you could see character variation, and you could see that ff6 was way different from ff7.

Even if I'm wrong in both of these, there's still a difference in pacing, setting, presentation, and graphics etc. So my point stands either way.
