Obvious answer, but IT WAS AWESOME. I nerdgasm'd.
It's SO AWESOME I AM SUPER EMOTIONAL RIGHT NOW AND I JUST CAN'T WAIT.

But it's no Fury Road.

It looks like I'll be going to two movies in the same year (The first one I saw this year was Fury Road). Damn. I'm splurging on movies this year...

I feel there's a lot of cynicism being behind the Episode 7 marketing. Look, it's Han and Chewie! You remember Han and Chewie right? Look, X-wings, TIE Fighters! We have packaged your childhood and are now selling it back to you. And it's working.

Haha, yeah. It feels way too corporate. At least Lucas tried to do new things in the prequel trilogy. With that said, the movie's still gonna be awesome.
My thought wasn't that it was cynical.

A lot of people disliked the new trilogy, episodes I, II, and III. They are trying to demonstrate that episodes 7 and up are more like the originals.
Since when don't you market a series around its core (and most famous) characters? That's like calling a new Mario cynical for advertising Mario in the trailers, IMO.

I like every Star Wars movie besides Episode II, so I'm down for the new one. The music has been the best thing about the trailers so far though- John Williams is fucking killing it as always.

Tickets are on sale now, and I am looking. Seriously. I'm one who loved all the movies. Maybe I didn't like the prequels as much as the original trilogy, but I still thought they were awesome.

Seriously, for anyone who complains about the acting in the prequel trilogy: When you have Samuel L. Jackson acting like shit and Liam Neeson sounding like he's reading queue cards, you know the problem isn't the actors, it's the directors. Hayden Christensen sounded like a petulant spoiled brat and he had awful lines, but for the vast portion of the prequels, he didn't have lines and he gave a solid performance. As long as he didn't open his mouth, I could totally believe him as Darth Vader, especially in Episode III. He was intimidating as fuck!

But if you really want to talk about bad acting, let's just take a look at the Original Trilogy; Princess Leia addressing Grand Moff Tarkin. "I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board." George Lucas: "Sorry, Carrie, could you make that sound just a little more kind-of-British?"

The REAL reason people don't like the prequel trilogy is because it doesn't live up to the Original Trilogy and it doesn't feel the same. That is the only fucking reason. They were good movies but because they weren't AS good, they're condemned.

I think it's more a case of J. J. Abrams actually being a massive fan of Star Wars (he wasn't a fan of Star Trek at all but he still created a good movie for that), so is fanboying out over his own creation.

If he really wanted to pander to the audience, he'd include a shot of Luke Skywalker in there, but obviously he's saving some cards for the film.

Also, Han Solo and Chewy have major roles in the film, it looks like, so why wouldn't they be in the trailer? Judging from the trailer, a very important plot point is Han teaching the main characters (the newbies) that the Force is, indeed, real and that it's about to "awaken". So having them there isn't pandering, it's vital to plot development.
no, the dialog and plot was horrid in the prequels. like fuck, "imma kill kids because my wife *might* die during childbirth and I was given a vague promise that the dark side will help save her in this hypothetical situation"

like, c'mon!

and the whole giant gaping plothole right at the beginning with the emperor + trade federation blockade (as explained in that prequel critique video every knows about). my god.

I tried rewatching them recently and had to turn that shit off.

This is the important part, honestly, and what I've always thought as someone who was first exposed to Star Wars via Galactic Battlegrounds- an RTS featuring content from all six movies. The prequels are far from being "bad" movies. They're just average to above average, so they suffer in comparison.

I always find it particularly funny when someone claims a prequel as "the worst movie they've ever seen". Pretty good sign they should watch an actual bad movie for comparison.
also, all of the characters in the prequels were devoid of character. like, the only one with any defining personality was Jar Jar (and Sebulba).

I think part of the reason why I loved KOTOR so much was because I watched the prequels and was like "oh. so this is what GOOD writing for a Star Wars property is like!" when I played KOTOR.

People do strange things for love. Especially forbidden love.

I actually thought that III was the strongest of the new trilogy.

Oh, like the Original Trilogy didn't have plot holes just as big. Of course not! EVERYONE knows that unguided missiles will make a 90 degree turn in ventilation shafts because space wizards! And everyone knows that a space station the size of the Death Star that MUST be capable of hyperdrive in order to get where it needs to be only needs ONE VENT WITH A 2 METER OPENING!
I don't think anyone said that was the only vent. Just that it was the only unguarded one.

Also, how do you know it was unguided? Or perhaps hyperdrives have very magnetic exhaust which pulled it in.
The Prequels are like the movies shown on MST3k in that the only good part of the movie is that they were shown on MST3k (except in the Prequels it was the RLM reviews)

Maybe. So why did the rebels focus their attack on only that one?

Also, how do you know it was unguided?

How about the part where everyone kept missing? Or they had to use targeting computers? And assuming they are guided, the part where everyone was concerned that Luke wasn't using his computer and how can it be guided without the computer?

Or perhaps hyperdrives have very magnetic exhaust which pulled it in.

Because ventilation exhaust blowing out will totally pull a projectile in.

Edit: And let's totally gloss over the fate of the universe depending the Empire not shooting down an escape pod!

If nothing else, I am going to watch this movie just to spit in the face of racist shitlords, though the trailer itself was pretty good.

Speaking of MST3K...

a bit of handwaving is not the same as a moon-sized plothole. And I never said anything about the original trilogy. I am saying that the prequels were shit because of the terrible plot, bland characters, cringe-worthy dialog, and lame performances.
