Beyond Reality (IGMC 2014 Edition) Review

Aww, thank you for taking the time to post this review up :3

I do agree, I probably should've chosen a less story-heavy game for the contest. All points you have brought up (shallow combat, inability to move around the interesting maps, immersion, unique skills (almost all (except elemental magic) skills are unique now), story speed) have been fixed in the HD version. All characters have been overhauled, allowing them to feel different from each other.

Unfortunately (as per this review) the smooth camera remains, but I think this is a positive for the HD version because the movement of the camera isn't as jarring as the default one is.

Thanks again :D

Zendir 3: Scourge of the Netherworld Review

The thing about Lamora is explained in the game, but probably not strongly enough so I'm not surprised you missed it - when Zane asks the Demon of Unity how many minds they can control at any point, it is up to three. Therefore, Lamora and Hudu were being mind-controlled before the demon shifted its focus to the two guards and Zothros - of which Zothros was able to snap out of it.

- Regarding the text in message boxes, hold down the enter key to speed it up, don't repeatedly press enter. I will have a look into seeing if there is an option to have it be enter-to-go-to-next-message until the end credits at which point it is timed with the music anyway.
- I have played games that make you run by default, but they're a little bit awkward because they sometimes make you accidentally run into enemies lol, particularly when you're not used to moving so quickly without holding shift.
- I've fixed the OP ability for Zaphilia so it only works in battle now :)

Thanks for the feedback! I'll try and fix the slightly-annoying things and I'll consider the whole demon thing for future games as I do agree - a lot of them were only introduced at the end.

It is interesting that you find the segments with characters running through the Netherworld and obtaining equipment the most interesting portion of the game. A lot of Zendir 2 was based on this principle, so I suspect that those who'd played the second game first tired of this by the third. However, I wonder what it'd be like the other way around - or whether it is a concept best suited to one game only?

In any case, I'll take this feedback into consideration for future games ^_^ (And I'll certainly be focusing on characters a lot more, I underestimated their value!)

Zendir: A New World Review

Oh yeah, I remember you played BR!

The others in the trilogy don't actually include the same characters as much, besides Zaphilia. Her backstory is explained even more in the second game, though - and characters introduced in 2 are also used in 3, to greater effect.

And yeah, at the time I wasn't entirely sure how to fix that spell-learning thing, but I think I have a better idea of how to do it now.

Squark... bahahaha. Gah. XD

Zendir: A New World Review

Why did I get a review for a two-year-old game? XDDD

Thank you though! Given that you gave this two stars, I'm actually intrigued to find out what you'll make of the much-improved A World Reborn, and my third game, Beyond Reality - and of course, the final in the Zendir trilogy, Scourge of the Netherworld. They certainly can't be worse than two stars! ;D

In any case, I'm shocked that nobody pointed out my squawk typo, so thanks for that! :D

I made Zendir 1 in a month - and it certainly shows. It was my first game too, so obviously it had very little character development. Should I revisit it again (which I may do after finishing Zendir 3 and fixing up Beyond Reality), I aim to put in much more backstory and remove the strange beta warning in the other Magic Academy that seems to be in this version (Thought I removed that??).

Thanks for the review ^_^ It's always interesting to see what people think years down the line of a game's completion!

Beyond Reality (IGMC 2014 Edition) Review

Loved this review, very fun to read. Your intelligence clearly shows in your usage of words! ;D

As you state - like many others - the game was sort of 'shoehorned' into its current length, hence why I am set on making a lengthier version of the game after I've finished Zendir 3.

You do bring up another thing I'd quite like to implement in the extended edition however - a likable character. The characters besides the main character who evolves over the course of the storyline (though I could probably make this a bit more profound) felt a little bit flat to me, but there wasn't time to change them for the IGMC. I'm thinking a good solution would be to expand the quick-transfer-cave-areas (which a lot of people have mentioned the same issue with!) and the introduction a tiny bit to give them a backstory of some sort.

As such, there will be a break point in the story to distinguish this extended game from its IGMC iteration, which will occur in the castle. This will spin the game into a multi-hour quest. I might even implement a dungeon with a puzzle to replace the chest found outside, but I'm not quite sure what to do for the chests found in the individual rooms, stopping short of guard patrol puzzles... o.o
I guess that's to worry about at another time though!

EDIT: Guest bedroom. No bed. OMG. Forgot. ;-;

Thanks for the review! It means a lot :D

Beyond Reality (IGMC 2014 Edition) Review

Whoop, thanks for the review! All the comments you've given me will be very helpful for how I develop the extension of the game! From this, I can deduce that an additional (interactive) segment in the intro is needed (before the opening scene that you see) and that the middle part needs to be expended. On top of this, additional banter between characters within this extension before the revelation would improve the development of the story.

So thanks very much :D
