Creating Infinite, Dynamic Content

Almost denied this on accident because the title is nearly identical to the spam content we get on a daily basis. But it's so refreshing to open one of these and see an actual helpful tutorial instead of advertisement for crypto banking in Bangladesh or something haha

How to make a horror thumbnail/title screen

Oh yikes, looking back at this tutorial the final product actually doesn't look great. Maybe I need to make a new one that covers a wider range of techniques haha

Postmortem!? Horrors, sequels and keeping it up ft. moca

Great job with this guys!! I'm excited to play whatever either of you cook up!

(I might also be slightly biased to enjoying this article because silksong and binding of isaac got a shoutout, haha.)

Featured Game, Featured Dev: Ghosthunter

Wow, I didn't realize there was a Melon Journey sequel coming out and never heard of LunarLux. I'll have to thank ghost for introducing me to those because they look great.

This was great as usual, Cap. Ghost gave some pretty great and well articulated responses too. Hoping they decide to stick around, they're very welcomed on RMN.

Featured Game, Featured Dev: Little Wing Guy

Great developer, great person, great read! I'm happy I finally managed to read one of these interviews thanks to it being for a game I've played, and Lil Wing really made his answers entertaining, and the questions were none the less great. And hey, thanks for that shoutout on calling you out, Lil Wing :D

How to make better rpgmaker trailers!!!

I completely disagree with not using walking shots. While an entire trailer of just walking can come across as boring, a lot of games have a focus on exploration and it's a good idea to show people what kind of locations they are in to see.
Perhaps it's just that my favorite rpg maker game trailers of all time are probably those of Happup and Ara Fell, both of which simply show the environments for a good majority of the trailer. (And frankly both of the walking shot gifs you've shown actually look really good and would probably sell the game for me)

I also disagree that the trailer has to be 1 minute MAX. Most professional trailers tend to go for 1 minute 30 seconds to 2 minutes in length. I don't think the trailer should be overly long, but I certainly don't think 1 minute should be the cut-off point. I won't say it's a bad length for a trailer either, but I think it really depends on your game's content. With Grimps, it works, because the game is short. But there's no harm in showing off a little more if your game is multiple hours long.

Then again, the trailers you've made and shown as examples are very good, so maybe I just have no idea what I'm talking about.

Edit:

I probably should link it here since I've mentioned it.

(And hey, it just so happens to be nearly 3 minutes long!)

RM Historia March 2019 Roundup

Oh fuck!!! This is cool as hell man. Hope to see more of these over time!!!

February 2018 Misao (im)Possibles

In the Castle
''In the Castle is a decent ten minute long experience with a few easy yet fun puzzles. The ending feels abrupt, but the story is generally good. And it's also visually pleasing, so I don't see any reason why not to give it a try.''

Breaking Thoughts
it's okay I guess, didn't have a tl;dr in my review and too lazy to write one now

The Hero of Legacy
''The experience may be a little frustrating to you due to the final boss dragging on for so long, but if she got a bigger hp debuff, and the ending got some reworking, and the annoying shadows were easier to find, I feel like this would be a pretty great game. Right now, it's good, but has the potential to be greater.''

A Quest for Heroes
just... no

Bedtime Adventure
''This was a fun way to spend five minutes.''

Please Love My Computer Game
''Honestly, the best way I can describe this game is that it's like The Beginner's Guide combined with some meta horror game like imscared or Calendula. It's a frustrating experience, but in the end, it was very unique and I enjoyed my time with it. I will say, I think I still like Take the Dream IX better.''

Nominated for how the hell did they do that?

January 2018 Misao (im)Possibles

I played and reviewed some of these today and I'm just gonna get some extracts from my reviews for each. The nominations are most likely just temporary and I'll likely change them.

Aria's Story
''Aria's Story is basically a perfect game with only a few minor nitpicks that did not really hinder the experience. It's well worth playing for the visuals alone, but is accompanied by a great story and nice puzzles. ''

I nominated it for best graphics, story, and for game of the year.

Icebound
''Icebound is a decent game, a little average, but worth spending 30 minutes on. The narrative was kind of weak despite having a good story, and the battles did break the immersion a bit, but the atmosphere and the exploration definetly made it enjoyable.''

Black Ritual
''I would say Black Ritual is a game with good visuals, but not much else. It's very unpolished, confusing, and frustrating. I did not enjoy my experience with the game, but I definetly think the developer could turn this into something good in the teased sequel at the end.''

Eat a Cactus
''Eat a Cactus is a game well worth playing. A lot of the jokes are easy to swallow, even if you aren't an RMN commoner (which is pretty handy. First time I played RMN Christmas Card 2007 I had no idea at all as to what the heck was going on.) ''

Nominated for funniest game.

Sandy and the Christmas Card Caper
''Overall, the game is a pretty great christmas short that I recommend playing if you have 10-15 minutes to spare. Trust me, the dialogue makes it worth it. ''

Trying
''Trying is well worth trying if you have an hour (and a half if you get stuck like me ^.^) to spare. Nice graphics and music, lovely dialogue and extremely likeable characters, and somewhat flawed but still enjoyable gameplay.''

January 2018 Misao (im)Possibles

I think Aria's Story should be in the completed category by the way.

This is super handy though! Guess I'm not gonna need to compile a list of 2018 games for when misaos are here after all.
