[Poll] Which is more important: Story, Graphics, or Sound?

story is what's most important to me personally, sound is what i spend the most time on, and graphics are definitely what are most important to getting your game noticed (positively or negatively). those who say that "all three" are the most important are empirically correct, of course, but perhaps missing the point of this thread.

This again, really? You don't even need to make a poll for this anymore, just look at some site history and the answer becomes clear.

A terrible looking ms-paint game with repetitive, generic game play, can become a "true classic" just because people appreciate the "story"/"world building"/"writing."

A very polished looking project, albeit one with a few bugs, gets eviscerated for not having a great story.

i'm not sure this thread is that unnecessary, although i can't argue it's not repetitive: nonetheless i've noticed the exact opposite trend where this site values graphics and polish above all else. : )

How much do y'all like midi?

i neither like nor dislike it.

midi tunes can be just as good or as shitty as any other tune, imho. i'm speaking of course of general, ineffable "goodness", not actual fidelity.

Silent Hill on RPGMaker?

Just make a silent hill-ish game and don't call it Silent Hill.
There are tons of them out there.
For example:
http://rpgmaker.net/games/4335/
http://rpgmaker.net/games/4480/

There's also http://rpgmaker.net/games/926/ though it's more Resident Evil than Silent Hill.

there are good examples of this kind of game too lol : P (One Night isn't that bad)

Completely illegal. You probably won't get a C&D, but it's still 100% against the law.

laws are stupid anyway.

but i certainly prefer original games to fangames and obvious clones.

Hope this gets far enough that you can make a game page for it.

i'm working on it. css is a bitch to figure out but i'm not satisfied with the default look anymore.

thanks for the c&c. i'll do what i can, again, working with a deadline. i kind of agree with you about the window, actually, it's just been a low priority thus far.

ty <3 but close to all tile credit goes to Celianna <3

(i did make a couple of the tiles myself, but certainly not the awesome shower)

and it's 1980, not modern day~

what the same screen looks like several hours later at/after sunset. (still tweaking the shade and position of the lighting which is slightly animated; twilight indoors is tricky to light since it's so subtle)

What are you thinking about? (game development edition)

If you're looking to create something fundamentally terrifying instead of just a scary impact, that's when you have your work cut out for you.

indeed. a few rpgmakar games do this weel tho.

dezz i once tried to make a project like you're talking about and nearly went insane in the process

gl!

~~~
speaking of going insane, i'm having an oddly specific game design problem. namely i can't stop obsessing over sound design and being an obnoxious perfectionist about getting every little scripted sound exactly right (mainly this involves a lot of trawling sound dogs and tweaking in audacity). it's the kind of thing that no one will ever actually notice upon playing the game, and it's taking forever and making game design super duper slow going.
looks more like dancing the robot than performing kung fu
the fact you think they're mutually exclusive tells me you know nothing of either : p
@pneumatic: those look sooooooooooooo much better than the RTP characters. much love. but yeah the pile of red blocks does look like a pile of red blocks.
stealing from your parents XD
i sometimes think my monitor brightness varies from that of others. on my screen both the open, blood soaked car trunk and the corpse are clearly visible.
thx for the input, anyway. the tint at least is easy to fix, as is the fog opacity.
