Star Ocean 5 Announced for PS3, PS4

I think the two things that most upset me about Star Ocean 3 was that they completely dumped the Vendeeni plot/subplot, and that I didn't get my self-named Fayt to hook up with Nel in the end.

What are you thinking about right now?

@Ratty: I...don't know? I'm largely ignorant of Canadian history. I knew parts of what piano talked about (such as Lincoln actually not wanting to repeal slavery), and other things like it was the Bubonic plague that made it possible for Europeans to even move in and start colonizing North America (they didn't bring it, but over 90% of Native Americans there prior ended up dying from it--and then those that did survive faced the smallpox from the Europeans...)

As far as the Bill of Rights, I find it amusing how often people misinterpret the first two amendments:

Freedom of Speech: This says that the GOVERNMENT cannot do anything to you for what you're saying. Your job can still fire you. Your neighbors can take offense and kick your ass. Also it does NOT implicitly imply (redundancy ftw) a separation of church and state, Jefferson (I think) used that phrase in a letter to someone. Which is just as well, theocracy gtfo.

Second Amendment: The one almost EVERYONE gets wrong. It's "The right to bear arms in a well regulated militia". Since, you know, Britain didn't recognize the Declaration of Independence right when it was signed (plus no standing army back then), and as piano said, gotta try to keep dictators in check somehow.

What are you thinking about right now?

Piano makes me want to move to Canada...not that they're perfect either but.

Star Ocean 5 Announced for PS3, PS4

I'm having mixed thoughts on this game as well. The game play of 4 was fun as hell but the story...eh-heh...
And then Star Ocean 3! Such a divisive game! Seems like people loved or hated it.
The whole "I'm the last boss and I made this universe with RPG Maker" vibe that totally invalidated the storylines of the first two games was a huge turn-off for me. Taken on its own, it's a fascinating idea, but it would have worked much better in a project that wasn't the third in a series of (loosely) connected games. That was probably the highlight of 4's story (if we can call it that)--the fact that they explicitly stated there were multiple universes, so perhaps the fact that our characters are just that isn't being mashed in our face.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Craze: too much EXP/CP? How about the part where I missed out on something like 300-400 ATK on Noel and 300-400 MAG on Serah because I went straight through RAV/COM?Whoever designed how you gained stats in that system was a fucking moron. It's not like they told us anything or gave us ANY indication of what was an optimal way to raise our class levels. If you need a strategy guide to figure out to spend your level up points then the game's been designed wrong.

Also as far as Atelier goes the characters have had MOSTLY realistic design choices post-Mana Khemia era. Why the princess' bloomers are longer than her dress (looking at you, Meruru), however, is beyond me.

LockeZ: Perhaps? I'll still argue that FF games as a whole have been on a downward trend starting in the PSX era, and that FF9 was my favorite one of the numbered entries on that console. Why we can't have things like actual equipment or controllable party members is beyond me. That being said, by comparison, 13-2 was loads better than 13...but that's also like saying that a heated hot dog is better than a cold hot dog. :P At least I finished the game! (Unlike FFX or FF12)

What are you thinking about right now?

I think we need to call the Ghostbusters. Or use google translate/babelfish and hope people aren't flagellating themselves.

What Videogames Are You Playing Right Now?

Craze you remind me that I'm still in land 3 of EO4 many months after getting it. Agh that stupid fire and ice puzzle dungeon.

Also I see you mentioned 13-2 but I'll withhold my comments on possibly the most poorly designed level up system I've ever seen to myself. (At least the actual game was fun to play)

Good point. As much as I loved Avatar, I'm not too blind to realize that the story is completely derivative (Hell, forget the Disney's Pocahontas similarity; Mr. Cameron additionally borrows plot and story from T2 and Aliens and the machines look strikingly familiar. I suppose if Cameron had to rip someone off, there was nobody better than himself).

It's my understanding that Avatar is basically Dances with Wolves in space. (A very bad dumbing down of the plot, but still!)

Also Cameron ripped off some guy for the Terminator movie and got sued. Lemme go find out who actually wrote the original story... ah, okay. It was actually a trio of short stories by Harlan Ellison, but yeah.

Look who got an acknowledgement as a "thanks to the works of" on the movie!
